Well, you say that, but I think nobody can do a good job in politics anymore. If you actually do shit, the media crucify you for not doing things the way they want and/or get people who don't like you to speak out. If you don't do stuff and focus on the media (a.k.a. Mr Tony 'Special Relationship' Blair), you get crucified for being useless.

Either way, your buggered. Maybe I'm wrong.
I only need to keep people happy enough to not provoke a vote of no confidence. As long as I can still get shit done, doesn't matter what the media thinks. No PM is in office forever.

Of course, whether or not I can get shit done remains to be seen.

It's funny - and a little sad - how the media can simultaneously hate Blair for being useless and not doing anything while still crucifying him for running the country into the ground with all the changes and decisions he made.

Oh, and I don't like rapes games, but I'll defend to death their right to make and sell them.

I'm still on topic!
True - though I think he preferred to be seen to be acting inspite of the fact he ended up screwing things up far worse than they would have been otherwise; ok, there are probably expections, but, for example, those Private-Public hospital things - even GCSE level student could have analyse the cost and show they where ricidulously expensive whilst at the same time granting virtually all control of hospital building and land management to the private sector.

Well, light knows I'm still not <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.130703>I'm still not a fan of rape in eroge, but that was a rather funny poke at the already hilarious overreactions.
Yeah this sums it up for me to.

Its a very touchy mindefield to walk across.
This also sums up how I feel about it.

That was funny. While rape isn't something to be condoned, getting outraged over a portrayal of it to fictional characters is a waste of effort.

Regarding the OP

The disclaimer in the game sounds like the disclaimers that American companies put in when the localize Hentai stating that everyone in the video is over the age of nineteen.

This is often why Japanese High Schools are often translated as "Junior Colleges".

Regardless of the actual content in the games and videos, the genre as a whole is getting stale. They're mostly "Power/Revenge" fantasies over women who are, for the most part, placid doormats. The target demographic for the game seems to be 20-30+ sexually frustrated Japanese males.

I've noticed this trend in a lot of Japanese media, take a working model of something that makes money and refine the hell out of it. There might be some innovation along the way, it might be shinier, prettier, and it might be easier to play/use but at it's core it's still the same thing it was when it first started.

Although from time to time, you'll have "breakout talent" that shatters the old mold and creates a new one to improve upon.

I'm still waiting for Lolita to get banned because it has child sex in it.
It has been numerous times in numerous countries, including just a few years ago in the US(it's legal now though).
UNICEF japan is even trying to get it banned there.

Also, I feel I should point out that whatever society's current opinion on rape is, it doesn't make natural male instincts go away, therefor ban all the games you want, I'm sure if you take away everything young men like nothing bad will come of it, a bunch of strong young men with nothing to lose and no emotional outlet?
Pfft, perfect society right there, let me tell you.

Come to think of it, the "fictionnal characters human rights" would make a way better argument than the ones used by them would-be censors.

Sure, fictionnal characters in books don't have any intelligence, in movies you got actors, so pretty much the same. But in games... better interactivity usually makes for better games, and one of the primary ways to improve interactivity is, improve the AI. I sure hope rape games aren't developed to the point where they use real AI yet (wouldn't know though, anyone?), but what if they are one day ?

Depending on your point of view on human intelligence/emotions, the only difference between a rape game character (or a character from any kind of game) and a human could be the level of sophistication in the way their 'brains' work.

The notion of "soul" etc. sure would help gamers feel good about murdering virtual beings. Religion necessary to game. Argh!

Out of topic much?

Thats easily the most brillent thing I have ever seen.

I mean, okay rapes a bad thing. as carl would say to the ATHF, that is what hell is like, being raped by dogs. You can pile in your views about the kiddy porn and whatever else may be morally objectionable. Doesn't make you a bad person for finding such things deplorable, but obviously some people don't because they sell it and people buy it.

But really it is to laugh how upset people get over fictional stuff, like if it didn't exist outside of the peoples minds that wrote/drew it the world would be better or something. :)

But if fictional characters start getting rights then maybe there is hope for the human race. if we can show compassion for anime ninja's then perhaps world peace is possible.

Oh my. Eroge breaks the fourth wall. That's pretty cool actually.

Adult entertainment of any kind is about fantasy, and people have all types of fantasies. Forcing adult entertainment to only depict "nice" interactions is a ridiculous situation. As long as no-one is getting (unwillingly) hurt, I don't see a problem with things like Rapelay, etc.

The premise of the game is sick and wrong, (giving the player a chance to rape japanese women and children) but that tongue-in-cheek disclaimer brought a tear or two to my eye.
And who are you to decide what is sick and wrong? I don't play rapegames (or any porn games for that matter), but i would not act like some self centered prick if i knew someone who does and attempt to take his porn away from him. It's his fapping time, and he can spent it on whatever the hell he wants.
You're right, who am I to decide what is sick and wrong? I think it is wrong, because in my mind it goes against my moral beliefs (that nothing good can come from raping people, or virtually raping someone) but I am not trying to inflict my beliefs on anyone else. If you want to rape someone in a game, fine with me, I'm not trying to argue.
Cheers mate! It's just that i am so sick of listening to people attempt to take the moral high ground even when allot of those very same people bash people like Jack Thomson for hating there games for allot of the exact same reasons they are bashing the porn ones.
I know exactly what you mean.

We care if they get raped.

But not chainsawed, fireballed, nail guned, head shotted, rpg'd, 203'd, force choked, force lightninged, saber evicerated, and let's not forget Genocide as we have taught 60 years of kids they can murder Germans and it's ok cause they are probley Nazi's, set on fire, pee'd on to put them out (woo postal 2) impaled by Sephiroths sword, crushed under the feet of a mech, die being sucked out into zero gee, thrown in fire, ice, acid, chemical weapons, bio ripped apart by viruses, zombies, and zombie giants with eye balls on their shoulder, and murder young girl for Adam.

But not raped...that's not Kosher.

Exactly.
