I think The Escapist has enough succinct authors making valid points that they do not need this guy. All he adds to the sites pedigree is troll bait so that the moderators can go hunting.

Interesting points, but the video was extremely repetitive, it could be summarised in about two sentences:

Films and games are two completely different forms of entertainment. Games are not inferior to films, but people act as though they are, when they shouldn't.

I mean, I agree with it, but that's basically all he said, but in several different ways.

Great point, but it looked like any whiny youtube fanboy. A little more critical decorum would make this a superior product.

Hmmmm.... Sorry, didn't really rate this guy, maybe he will develop as he becomes more practised, but all he seemed to do was choose a topic that would be agreed with by many, rant somewhat to show how into the subject he must be and swear a lot to be passionate and "edgy".

And go nowhere.

Its like he bought Heavy Rain and didnt like it, couldn't get a refund and bitched about it on YouTube for five minutes while his mum was out.

Still, I'm English, so maybe I'm worried about being misrepresented as a nation?

From Destructoid to The Escapist! These guys are awesome at finding people (from Yahtzee to the Extra Credits team to The LRR guys) and now Jim! Welcome to The Escapist!
Same reaction. "Mhm what is this? Jimquisition on escapist, yay."

I can't see how this could not have been an audio podcast, looking at him stand there for 5 minutes is boring. Either add some more visual stuff or scrap the video.

Well it seems Jim is new at this so I hope things move up from here, you shouldn't chase your tail so much, even if it's only 5 minutes you need a content flow in it.

I don't know who this guy is, b since this video is not itself a game, there is no reason why it should not aspire to hollywood production values, or production values at all. While i do agree with him, lets just say that watching the video wasn't pleasant.

I do not like this guy and for some reason when I want to watch the other videos on this site all they do is pop up with the Jimquistion!!!

Am I the only one having this problem?

While I like new things, there 2 things I want from this movie if I'm gonna watch it regularly:

1- At one point Jim says "movies" in stead of "games" or something. Around halfway mark. The lack of polish here kind've killed it for me. Also the fact that a small fast-cut (like how Youtubers cut to the next sentence quickly) could've actually fixed it without much work.

2- I think you should ALWAYS use moving media when you're making a reference mid-video, because the MS-paint images also ruined the experience for me. ALTHOUGH the credits image did have it's charm!

Because when I watch these videos, my head starts to kill itself if it sees something that I, myself could've made. Then I start thinking about why I wasn't asked to get paid to do this and yadda yadda.

Other than that, I'll see you next week
If I remember correctly, all of the previous ones on destructoid, and I assume this one, are completely unscripted, and done in one take.
Not my problem. A really great presenter rarely lets any mistakes off the editing room floor. I'm not here for unscripted stuff, I like listening to good speakers. That's just me though, anyone enjoying this, go have a ball!

Well I will certainly not be watching the rest of this series, for you, Jim, clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

Jim Sterling, in my Escapist? What do?

Seriously though, don't we have enough shows? Plus, Jim brings a lot of negative attention to the site as well. I enjoy his columns on the 'toid, but I think we all can admit he enjoys pissing people off to get a reaction.

...oh...god. I'm sorry, but past the first 2 minutes, this gets incredibly annoying, real quick, real fast.

Jimquisition, or whatever you wanna call yourself this week, before you invent yourself another personality like everyone and their dog, just sit down and think about what have YOU contributed to this debate right now. Can I sum it up? Swears and on-screen dicks. I'm sorry, but this literally blows my mind, here's this OVER 9000th angry internet personality, who's trying to berate people for supposedly 'putting the industry down' by comparing it to a far more established artistic medium, all the while having the production values and comedic provess of a dead clown.

Perhaps it could have occured to you that maybe the reason why they do this comparison is to ATTRACT people, who might otherwise not be interested. You don't get people to play Legacy of Kain by saying "yeah, it has visceral combat and lotsa platforming", but by saying that "the dialogue and writing is pretty much on par, or even better than that of a Hollywood movie".

But then again, if you did that, you wouldn't have had material for a video and to generated ad revenue from it. In any case, I really hope you can up the ante, because as an introduction to the site, this was nowhere near the level of 'good'.

Oh, btw, I understand every new person needs to be promoted, but the inkillable splash-page this video keeps dropping, so that I might subscribe to his whatever is also not quite an attractive feature.

Well that was a waste of time. Basically a padding out of what Yahtzee said (much better, mind) in the Ghostbusters video. Also, isn't the basis for this video series exactly what The Big Picture is meant to be?

If it wasn't for that stupid forced advertisement that fucks up the page by moving the video location, I wouldn't be so bitter about this. I would have said "he had a go, no harm done" but the fact that the advertising was forced down my throat just pisses me off. What's even more hilarious is that if you click the picture, it sends you to a 404. Fail much?

The guy tries far too hard to be likeable:

1. The swearing British Guy: Yahtzee pulls this one off much better, it makes this guy look like he's just trying to jump on a bandwagon. I'd also like to point out that I find the way this guy uses swears to be offensive. Unlike Yahtzee, this guy uses it in place of where normal people say "um.." Instead of getting a thesaurus like a professional and intelligent critic, he just chucks in a few F-bombs to pad out his speech.

2. The "look": I get it, MovieBob has the "Comic Book Guy" image and Yahtzee has the goatee and hat image and has become famous; so does that mean you need one too to fit in? On top of that, the red tie on black shirt/pants with aviators just looks horrible. It's embarrassing because it's such an attention-whore dress style.

Who is this guy? Is he the boyfriend of someone high up at the Escapist or something? His on-screen appeal and quality of his writing hi-light the fact that any sane person would not give him this opportunity unless he had some sort of nepotistic advantage. I find the fact that someone thinks his opinion is useful on a website that claims to be an ambassador of gaming lifestyle to be much more insulting than confusing the differences of the mediums of video and movie.
