Also, anyone remember back in 2002 or whatever when Microsoft was massively hacked?
You mean when the Windows servers were hacked? It had nothing to do with Xbox Live back then. It was all with their websites anyway and had no way put the users credit cards in harms way.

Also yeah XBL is a bit better than PSN simply because paying to use it means that there are people who CONSTANTLY work on the security of the system. CONSTANTLY monitor the network to detect breaches in the system.

How much do you want to bet that the weird PSN lag/outage from a couple of weeks ago stems from this and it took them until last week to take the entire PSN down to figure out what was taken and I wouldn't be surprised if that was why they were able to get everything was because they were within the system for so long.

Good God, Escapist. Please stop with the idiotic, over-spun headlines. The PSN has been hacked, yes, but you'll notice that they've specifically said that "there is no evidence" that credit card info has been stolen. Thus, Sony did NOT state that all of the PSN data has been stolen. With regards to this, it's a phishing scam, which does NOT entail "their credit cards have been compromised."

I understand you have to get hits on the site, but you're helping no one by exaggerating the truth here.
You clearly do not understand news. Thanks to being a communication major I know all about the crap news stations do to get viewers.

OT: well... I better go back to buying a new graphics card for my computer every week, just so this crap doesn't happen to me again.

This seems to me like the hacking, and credit card things are separate but related issues.
From what I'm understanding (and the source link gives nothing..) is that people are hacking Modern Warfare and messing with people's stats.

Then, because apparently how many gold stars you have is indicative somehow to your ability to attract women, the hackers are phishing and demanding payment to fix the hacks that they did.

And that's how people's stuff is getting "stolen". Am I reading that entirely wrong?

I know it had nothing to do with XBLA, but it's the same company, so I thought it was somewhat relevant. I swear there was something in the news a few years back about an MS database being hacked and CC#'s being stolen, but I might be misremembering. Maybe it was another company.

Also yeah XBL is a bit better than PSN simply because paying to use it means that there are people who CONSTANTLY work on the security of the system. CONSTANTLY monitor the network to detect breaches in the system.
Well, yeah, I would HOPE that this is the case, but do you have any evidence to support it?
You can't just assume that because you are paying for something it is automatically better-supported. I mean, there are people paying for PSN+ who just experienced the same crap as all the free PSN users, to make a small example...

Phishing scams? Oh, thank fuck. I thought you meant like actually reaching through the internet and grabbing my details. Jesus, that title scared the Hell out of me.

What I meant was that the Live network is still vulnerable despite the subscription, which some people argued was safer because of it.
Bottom line is, if you're dumb enough to fall for it, you deserve it.

Sorry for the confusion.
Np, my apologies. *hat tip*

Well balls. Although at most the PSN hackers got my email address, and the XBL hackers got nothing. Because I don't play CoD, and I'm not retarded enough to give money out like it's freaking candy. Although my card is attached to my XBL account. Not that it's useful in any way. To anyone. Including me.

Good thing I don't have my debit card anymore, so there's not a damned thing they can do, even if I played cod/fall prey to a phishing scam.

I find it funny that some people think that this is hacking. A scam is not a hack. A scam is you being stupid enough to give up your information. Good job idiots, I salute you.

Still supporting the hacker/pirate who got through PSN as well.

It was just a misunderstanding by the reporter, hardly a devious plot to stir up controversy when we haven't even made up facts to support that argument.

We can make much better fake news then this is what I'm trying to say. ;)

So i guess this is what hackers who got their PSN hacked and can`t play online PS3 and are also Sony fanboys do to get their revenge on the XBLA conterparts. Yeah, don`t mess with ppl who install Linux on their PS3s.

I'm glad to see the article was updated, but I'm still disappointed that this was posted in the state it was in at first at all. The fact it was written as it was just after what happened with Sony does seem suspicious and like the author was trying to take advantage of how nervous gamers are about their security right now. Remind me to not trust what this guy says in the future.

Just seen a new Wii Channel called 'Card Swipe'.

All I have to do is wave my wallet in front of the Wii Sensor and all my bases are belong to them or something.
Sounds pretty good.
