I must admit I am really starting to get annoyed with the News from The Escapist. Honestly guys, I come to the 'news" section for NEWS. Not for some opinion piece. More and more news articles are getting opinions interjected into them. I started to notice more and more bias and opinion recently and thought about commenting, but it is getting to ridiculous levels.

Example by John Funk in a recent News Article (notice it's not game review)
"I'd also say that the difference between the Street Fighter series and the Mortal Kombat series is that one is great and one is mediocre at best, but that's just me."

I'm sorry but I don't care what you think about which game is better, because it's an article about Western Design Philosophy. If I wanted OPINIONS about a game being good or not. I'd find a review. Not an unrelated news article. This kind of stuff has no place in news. And before someone jumps on the "oh you are just a butthurt fanboy" wagon, I have played NEITHER of those 2 fighting games.

Now on to today's news article. This is a great example of what NOT to do. Take facts, exaggerate, call for panic where it's not needed, mislead about other articles, and then call it "news".

No I'm not some hyperbolic "quit the escapist" moron here. Just saying you guys REALLY need to do a better job with your news section. This stuff is misleading at best, harmful at worst.

Anyone who still supports hackers after this week... can... go away... :(

Remember when hackers used to attack things that gamers didn't like?
You guys do realize that there are more than one group of hackers and that most hackers are independent of one another right? You sound as though you believe that "Hackers" is one group of ten guys that run every illegal computer activity in the world.
Jesus how many times am i gonna be quoted on this, Im talking about THESE hackers. I know not all hackers are bad, im talking about these ones. People keep quoting me saying not all hackers are bad, all im trying to say is not all hackers are good.

NO ONE HAS EVER SUPPORTED HACKERS WHO STEAL OTHER PEOPLES MONEY OR IDENTITIES!

that is all
Not true actually:
On this Forum? Find the post and I will concede to your argument.

Nice secure system there Sony. Way to fuck up. At least RRoD only killed your system and didn't give out all your information at the same time.

Oh and I am still supporting the people who did this. How do you leave such a glaring issue in the system without fixing it? Thats asking for trouble. At least now Sony has to get their system together. If it didn't happen now, it was going to somewhere down the line and Sony still would have done nothing about it until then. Great company.
what kind of stupid argument is that... that's like saying you support the 9/11 attacks because it highlighted apparantly not up to scratch airport security.
Two different things first of all, but it did awake the country to the problem. Now Sony is awake to its problem, it failed to protect its information on a massive scale. You don't fuck up more then that.

Well... you managed to find an absolute dumbass I... I am astounded at his idiocy...

Though you should still word your comment more carefully in the future so that it doesn't sound like you think that all hackers are the same people.

Are you kidding me? Did you have a memory lapse or something where you entirely forgot the fact that you edited half of that post in afterwards? I quoted the entire post as it was when I first saw it too. Am I a jackass too?
He's clearly trolling, just humor the guy.
The humor is all his, I assure you.

Gawd-DAMN, is nowhere safe? Soon I'll be getting an email from Nintendo telling me that my Wii has been hacked and is making some Asian kids a fortune.

Phishing? You're trying to equate a phishing scam to the recent psn hack?

You need to fix this story because the problem is you're going to feed morons like this guy:

I find this funny after all the Xbox fanboys trying to say "PSN is shit because it's free" and now there's a possibility that their personal info was stolen....on a service they paid for.

Wonder if it's the same people who got the PSN...
Maybe what you want is to be the number one story on playstation fan boy forums and spread misinformation that will have to be dealt with for the next five years across a million social networks. I seriously thought you above playing the Glenn Beck of the internet though.
What I meant was that the Live network is still vulnerable despite the subscription, which some people argued was safer because of it.
Bottom line is, if you're dumb enough to fall for it, you deserve it.

Sorry for the confusion.

Good thing I never use credit cards on LIVE. Or play CoD for that matter.
If I can, I try not to use credit cards on line period! I get those little gift card things for like MMO subscriptions and stuff. I'm too afraid of this happening. XD

Also, anyone remember back in 2002 or whatever when Microsoft was massively hacked?
You mean when the Windows servers were hacked? It had nothing to do with Xbox Live back then. It was all with their websites anyway and had no way put the users credit cards in harms way.

Also yeah XBL is a bit better than PSN simply because paying to use it means that there are people who CONSTANTLY work on the security of the system. CONSTANTLY monitor the network to detect breaches in the system.

How much do you want to bet that the weird PSN lag/outage from a couple of weeks ago stems from this and it took them until last week to take the entire PSN down to figure out what was taken and I wouldn't be surprised if that was why they were able to get everything was because they were within the system for so long.

Good God, Escapist. Please stop with the idiotic, over-spun headlines. The PSN has been hacked, yes, but you'll notice that they've specifically said that "there is no evidence" that credit card info has been stolen. Thus, Sony did NOT state that all of the PSN data has been stolen. With regards to this, it's a phishing scam, which does NOT entail "their credit cards have been compromised."

I understand you have to get hits on the site, but you're helping no one by exaggerating the truth here.
You clearly do not understand news. Thanks to being a communication major I know all about the crap news stations do to get viewers.

OT: well... I better go back to buying a new graphics card for my computer every week, just so this crap doesn't happen to me again.

This seems to me like the hacking, and credit card things are separate but related issues.
From what I'm understanding (and the source link gives nothing..) is that people are hacking Modern Warfare and messing with people's stats.

Then, because apparently how many gold stars you have is indicative somehow to your ability to attract women, the hackers are phishing and demanding payment to fix the hacks that they did.

And that's how people's stuff is getting "stolen". Am I reading that entirely wrong?

I know it had nothing to do with XBLA, but it's the same company, so I thought it was somewhat relevant. I swear there was something in the news a few years back about an MS database being hacked and CC#'s being stolen, but I might be misremembering. Maybe it was another company.

Also yeah XBL is a bit better than PSN simply because paying to use it means that there are people who CONSTANTLY work on the security of the system. CONSTANTLY monitor the network to detect breaches in the system.
Well, yeah, I would HOPE that this is the case, but do you have any evidence to support it?
You can't just assume that because you are paying for something it is automatically better-supported. I mean, there are people paying for PSN+ who just experienced the same crap as all the free PSN users, to make a small example...

Well balls. Although at most the PSN hackers got my email address, and the XBL hackers got nothing. Because I don't play CoD, and I'm not retarded enough to give money out like it's freaking candy. Although my card is attached to my XBL account. Not that it's useful in any way. To anyone. Including me.

Good thing I don't have my debit card anymore, so there's not a damned thing they can do, even if I played cod/fall prey to a phishing scam.
