You guys do realize that there are more than one group of hackers and that most hackers are independent of one another right? You sound as though you believe that "Hackers" is one group of ten guys that run every illegal computer activity in the world.

OH NO THIS IS TOO FUNNY!
lol
This article read like the best/worst joke ever.
My god, this is absurd!

also: take that you idiotic xbox fanboys saying "HAHA STOOPID PSN USERS I BET YOU WISH U HAD XBOX NAO!"

I know it's not the same situation, but still, the fact is, none of these systems are 100% safe. It's how the company responds to it that shows their true colors (Sony's response = clusterfuck).

Also, anyone remember back in 2002 or whatever when Microsoft was massively hacked?

Not all hackers are criminals. Some of them just like to tinker with things. To say all hackers are criminals is like saying all executives are guilty of tax fraud.

Hackers are a singular entity?
Im talking about the hackers that have been in the news this week, people still seem to think they're the good guys and Sony and MS are the bad guys.

Perhaps you should actually read the details behind this story, I don't mind if you want to beleive the 360 has been compromised in the same way as PSN, but at least realize this article is completely manipulating the truth to try and scare people. All the article is actually meant to be talking about are phishing attempts - messages in game trying to trick people into giving them free Microsoft points, or access to their account by promising some kind of in-game gain; usually 10th prestige. The same thing occurs on all online gaming services.

Which I never have to worry about, because I put my online settings to friends only, don't want to hear 10 year old's screaming at me on XBL or sending me hate-filled messages.

It's probably the best policy; I'm just amazed The Escapist would stoop to the level of trying to imply hackers can access your credit card details in-game...

True, the article is a bit of a bad joke. I started off thinking you were laughing at it because it was all just hyperbole, but then that last line revealed your post to be just as bad.

I don't know, I'm not sure I fully believe that article yet because it makes no fucking sense, which is it? Phishing or hacking? Because those aren't fucking synonyms.

PSN user data is compromised, XBL credit card info is in the shit...

And Steam has a new(ish) security feature that stops people from logging into your account from machines you've not given permission to.

Ho hum...

Take a look at your source:
Users may experience difficulties with the following services:

* Users may receive potential phishing attempts via title specific messaging while playing Modern Warfare 2.

We are aware of the problem and are working to resolve the issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience
NOTHING mentions hacking, only phishing, which is basically messages that ask you for personal information. Phishing and hacking are not even close to synonyms. What is this? An attempt to "even out the playing field" because of what happened to PSN? Shameful.

Nice secure system there Sony. Way to fuck up. At least RRoD only killed your system and didn't give out all your information at the same time.

Oh and I am still supporting the people who did this. How do you leave such a glaring issue in the system without fixing it? Thats asking for trouble. At least now Sony has to get their system together. If it didn't happen now, it was going to somewhere down the line and Sony still would have done nothing about it until then. Great company.
what kind of stupid argument is that... that's like saying you support the 9/11 attacks because it highlighted apparantly not up to scratch airport security.
Two different things first of all, but it did awake the country to the problem. Now Sony is awake to its problem, it failed to protect its information on a massive scale. You don't fuck up more then that.
and there were quite a few people voicing the same opinion

Hey, sorry to bother you with something really off-topic, but mind if I ask which anime your profile picture is from? Thanks.

Phishing? You're trying to equate a phishing scam to the recent psn hack?

You need to fix this story because the problem is you're going to feed morons like this guy:

I find this funny after all the Xbox fanboys trying to say "PSN is shit because it's free" and now there's a possibility that their personal info was stolen....on a service they paid for.

Wonder if it's the same people who got the PSN...
Maybe what you want is to be the number one story on playstation fan boy forums and spread misinformation that will have to be dealt with for the next five years across a million social networks. I seriously thought you above playing the Glenn Beck of the internet though.
I had a theory that the OP is a PS3 fanboy himself, and felt the need to give XBOX a kicking to cheer himself up a bit ^^. (not that it matters, but yes at the very least this article is badly worded, which I have already pointed out so I will shut up about it now).
Badly worded? This is not badly worded, it's fucking wrong. Phishing is not hacking, period.

It's like saying punching my roommate is highjacking. It's not bad wording, it's just incorrect.

Sony IS a bad guy in a lot of ways. Sony is infamous for taking DRM as far as they possibly can, often to the point where you're effectively leasing whatever they market without any of the consumer protections afforded to normal lessees.

I don't mean to imply that attacking Sony's infrastructure is an appropriate or even effective way of dealing with their customer hostility, because it isn't. I suspect that whoever's responsible for the latest attack on sony isn't ideologically motivated.

I don't really see MS as bad so much as incompetent. have you been to windows support lately? most unhelpful place I've ever seen.

Nope, this article is wrong. Seriously, it's just plain wrong. Look at its source, it says there are phishing attempts. NOT hacking.

Phishing is the act of trying to trick you into giving them information such as the famous "Nigerian Prince" email that asks you to forward money. Hacking is when they break into the network and take it. In short for them to get your credit card information on XBL you literally have to type your credit card number into a message and send that message to them.

I don't know who this new newsroom poster is with 11 posts, but I hope he doesn't get to comfortable with his position at the Escapist, because he just posted a very important and blatantly fucking wrong news story.
