Let me just check something quickly.

Yes, I do believe that Metal Gear has officially jumped the shark.
WAIT! NOW they jumped it?!
So we're gonna disregard Psycho Mantis, The Pain who can teleport with bees, Multiple Ghosts coming back from the dead, Breaking the fourth wall on any occasion, Revolver Ocelot ricocheting bullets, Grey Fox, a Monkey who Smokes, and Raiden doing crazier crap than this in MGS4 (holding back Arsenal Gear with one hand)
And THIS is where you say Metal Gear gets too weird?!
This series was convoluted and wacky from the beginning.
You make many valid points. But somehow I never really considered just how ridiculous the storylines were when I was playing the games. I was so absorbed by the world and characters that none of it really mattered. Look at the beauty that is MGS3, it remains one of my top favourite video game storylines based on how emotive it is... and like you say, it has a man who teleports using bees, a dead guy who still counts as a boss, a 100 year old man who only lives to do battle with Snake and a muscle bound guy who can pretty much shoot lightening from his body... wtf?
But the whole approach to Rising (I refuse to call it Revengeance) seems to drop all pretence of serious undertones and just fills it with as much over the top action as it can manage. I guess that is the point of the game, the whole franchise is simply bonkers so why not embrace that? I'm in no doubt that it will be a good game, a fun game for sure. But somehow it just doesn't sit right with me, mixing it into the whole MGS world.
Also, "I think it's time for Jack to let her rip!" wtf? Raiden was supossed to be incredibly ashamed of his past. MGS2 was about him learning to accept that part of his life and come to terms with it, not allowing it to hold him back or shape who he is. Now he's totally over it and embracing his nick name as a source of cheesy one liners? What the hell guys? I hope we get some sort of explaination of how he got to this point.
