They are serious games, they're just so serious that Hideo Kojima actually has created his own serious that lesser non-Hideo lifeforms can't comprehendKopikatsu said:There are also supernatural powers, possession, nanomachines that do everything, a guy with force lightning...Dickdatduck said:In MGS4 a one armed cyborg Raiden stops a giant ship from crashing into Snake by himself and a short time after that an armless cyborg Raiden fights off some solders with his sword in his mouth. This series isn't particularly as grounded in reality as some may think.SnakeoilSage said:Buuut come on. Tossing a Metal Gear Ray into the air like it's a trash can? That's the kind of stuff I'd expect from a surreal series like Bleach or Final Fantasy, not one obsessed with anti-war sentiments and conspiracy theories.
I can't believe someone could say that Metal Gear Solid is supposed to be a serious game after playing...any of them.
The name of the Japanese God of Thunder? I'm trying to figure out the context of that question with....nm I better not think about it too much. But my point for my reply is that Raiden moved just as quick and agile as snake has over the gaming years. So the "gameplay" of Raiden in MGS4 and the gameplay of Raiden in the 1st trailer did not compute.Dickdatduck said:Platinum? The same people who made Bayonetta and Vanquish, 2 of the most pure fun games I have ever played? I was already looking forward to this game but now my anticipation is through the roof.
Look up what "Raiden" means.Negatempest said:Okay, original trailer had the name "Metal Gear: Rising" Subtitle: Lighting Bolt Action. The gameplay of said trailer had no lightning bolt action in it at all whatsoever.
Even if they were the same people, they can like one character, and not another character....Madara XIII said:I said it was a double standard because of everyone's reaction to this Raiden is inversly related to the fan reaction of Dante.Anodos said:mireko said:Three (3) parts Vanquish

I am pleased with this. Would rather have a new Bayonetta or something unrelated to MGS, but I won't look a robot-sword-fight-gift horse in the mouth.
Whoa, what? People like the new Dante? Count me out of that example, please.Madara XIII said:This kinda makes me chuckle.

I see a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE Double standard here.
Double-standard as in.....two characters being judged? Not what that means, lol.
Everyone being accepting of Dante's change of character, but the moment they change up Raiden (which isn't even that much of a change aside from a bit more over the top) it's suddenly bad.
So it's ok for them to change up one iconic character but not ok for the other?
and concerning gameplay?
Looks great. Raiden isn't Snake and I don't expect him to play like him with this get up
This Raiden is arguably less over the top than he was in MGS4. In 4, he stopped Outer Heaven with one arm. Outer Heaven is a city-sized Arsenal Gear whose hangar carries 25 Metal Gear RAYs. If he couldn't toss a Metal Gear RAY into the air like it was nothing, then it would be at odds with his abilities in the main series.Madara XIII said:I said it was a double standard because of everyone's reaction to this Raiden is inversly related to the fan reaction of Dante.Anodos said:mireko said:Three (3) parts Vanquish

Thsi was a fantastic description, Logan. I couldn't help but get the same vibe myself. It's only a shame I followed the link to youtube. The comments, mostly from upset teenagers, are not positive about the direction shit. That said I like over the top sometimes, and inventing words for movie titles is so 80's 90's that I can't help but approve.Logan Westbrook said:The trailer itself puts me in mind of the anime trailers [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDEof8HoEYw] of the early 1990s, back when anime was a new idea; it's actually a little eerie just how similar this new trailer is to the ones I watched as a kid.
Actually, not to be nit-picky, but the New Dante plays similar to Nero mixed with Ryu Hyabusa from Ninja Gaiden.Anodos said:Even if they were the same people, they can like one character, and not another character....Madara XIII said:I said it was a double standard because of everyone's reaction to this Raiden is inversly related to the fan reaction of Dante.Anodos said:mireko said:Three (3) parts Vanquish

I heard that people didnt like the new Dante anyway. I would buy a game hes in, but he plays pretty similiar to the other Dante. This on the other hand, has nothing to do with MGS. At all. Looks like a typical Anime beat em up.
Im sure theres characters YOU dont like either, cmon.

Edit: Also, I've heard nothing but people complaining about Dante's change. So..wat?
But the alternate universe bullshit leaves no reason whatsoever for it to be leeching on the DMC franchise, simply make it it's own game. At least Rising uses the same character(s) and machines (Metal Gear Ray).anthony87 said:Actually I believe that they've now pulled the "alternate universe" card in order to explain how DmC is so radically different if that helps at all. Certainly helped me although I'd still really rather a proper Devil May Cry 5.Warachia said:I can accept this and not the new DMC game, because this, as you said, is a side story, not a direct sequel. If the new DMC game was the same (a side story focusing on a new character) I'd accept it too.anthony87 said:Well the only reason I've been able to accept this so quickly is because I unloaded all my hate when the DmC reboot was revealed but after time and more information I've come to accept and look forward to it.Warachia said:Fair enough, I guess this just takes some time before people get used to the idea.anthony87 said:You're absolutely right when you say that all of this makes no sense in the context of Metal Gear Solid. But this isn't Metal Gear Solid.Warachia said:Fun isn't necessarily the issue, you can play a game, have fun, and still despise the game due to things like inconsistencies, story making little to no sense, characters acting out of character, villains doing evil things for no reason other than being the villain, or in the case of MGS 4, having the two sides fight for absolutely no reason than you want to have conflict.anthony87 said:I really can't believe that gamers have become so jaded that they can watch a trailer of a man who is also a cyborg ninja go toe to leg in a sword fight against a Metal Gear Ray before proceeding to throw it into the air then slice it apart and scoff at it!
Can you really say that it doesn't look fun as hell?
Before you say something along the lines of "But games are meant to be all about gameplay" you need to look at the whole of a series instead of looking at the one title, the MGS games are based partially around gameplay, and mostly around story, so expecting people to just blindly accept this when it makes no sense in context is absurd.
This is Metal Gear Rising. A spin-off. A side-story.
The new title alone shows that this is setting out to be a completely different experience than what we're used to. Snakes story will be continued in Metal Gear Solid 5 and will more than likely contain the MGS experience we're used to.
In this case I'm skipping the hate and just moving straight onto acceptance.
Actually if you ever played the Online Expansion of Metal Gear Solid 4, known as Metal Gear Online, you could play as customized PMC soldiers and at random times you'd be chosen to be either, Solid Snake, Liquid Ocelot, Meryl, Johnny, Mei Ling, Raiden or Vamp.Negatempest said:The name of the Japanese God of Thunder?
