This has nothing to do with the Solid series though. At this point you're just being obtuse...to be obtuse.Wuvlycuddles said:Of course you were dearie. But I fail to see how that particular impression was relevant at all, even if I didn't understand the concept of separate continuities. And I'm not defensive, I'm passive aggressive.anthony87 said:I'm not patronizing anyone but from the way your post was worded I was under the impression that that you're treating Rising as part of the Metal Gear Solid cannon. Defensive much?
And I'm sorry but I fail to see this argument about Raiden not being a comprelling or likable character in any of your posts. Care to point it out? Then again it's not like I'm here to try and force you to like him.
Also, I forgot the refer to your point about X-Com or Syndicate earlier. In answer to that, I've never player either of those games nor even heard of them before all the genre change controversy flared up. Don't plan on playing them either so they could get turned into a rhythm game for all I care.
Fair point, mayhaps I was relying too heavily on the power of inference there.
Lastly, your ignorance of those two games doesn't invalidate that off hand remark I made, I was simply implying that you seemed like the kind of person who wouldn't care if someone came along and removed the aspects you enjoyed most from a game in a spin-off/remake/sequel.
I'm sorry but whaaaaaaaaaaaaat?Frostbite3789 said:This has nothing to do with the Solid series though. At this point you're just being obtuse...to be obtuse.
They aren't suddenly going to make every Metal Gear game a hack'n'slash game. Were you complaining that Peace Walker was ruined forever because you had to manage troops and a base too?
OH GOD THAT MUST MEAN EVERY METAL GEAR GAME AFTERWARDS WILL HAVE THAT! Not just because it fits the plot or the main character. No, that'd make sense. Ruined. Forever.
Fair enough, I guess this just takes some time before people get used to the idea.anthony87 said:You're absolutely right when you say that all of this makes no sense in the context of Metal Gear Solid. But this isn't Metal Gear Solid.Warachia said:Fun isn't necessarily the issue, you can play a game, have fun, and still despise the game due to things like inconsistencies, story making little to no sense, characters acting out of character, villains doing evil things for no reason other than being the villain, or in the case of MGS 4, having the two sides fight for absolutely no reason than you want to have conflict.anthony87 said:I really can't believe that gamers have become so jaded that they can watch a trailer of a man who is also a cyborg ninja go toe to leg in a sword fight against a Metal Gear Ray before proceeding to throw it into the air then slice it apart and scoff at it!
Can you really say that it doesn't look fun as hell?
Before you say something along the lines of "But games are meant to be all about gameplay" you need to look at the whole of a series instead of looking at the one title, the MGS games are based partially around gameplay, and mostly around story, so expecting people to just blindly accept this when it makes no sense in context is absurd.
This is Metal Gear Rising. A spin-off. A side-story.
The new title alone shows that this is setting out to be a completely different experience than what we're used to. Snakes story will be continued in Metal Gear Solid 5 and will more than likely contain the MGS experience we're used to.
Well the only reason I've been able to accept this so quickly is because I unloaded all my hate when the DmC reboot was revealed but after time and more information I've come to accept and look forward to it.Warachia said:Fair enough, I guess this just takes some time before people get used to the idea.anthony87 said:You're absolutely right when you say that all of this makes no sense in the context of Metal Gear Solid. In MGS4 a one armed cyborg Raiden stops a giant ship from crashing into Snake by himself and a short time after that an armless cyborg Raiden fights off some solders with his sword in his mouth. This series isn't particularly as grounded in reality as some may think.SnakeoilSage said:Buuut come on. Tossing a Metal Gear Ray into the air like it's a trash can? That's the kind of stuff I'd expect from a surreal series like Bleach or Final Fantasy, not one obsessed with anti-war sentiments and conspiracy theories.
I can accept this and not the new DMC game, because this, as you said, is a side story, not a direct sequel. If the new DMC game was the same (a side story focusing on a new character) I'd accept it too.anthony87 said:Well the only reason I've been able to accept this so quickly is because I unloaded all my hate when the DmC reboot was revealed but after time and more information I've come to accept and look forward to it.Warachia said:Fair enough, I guess this just takes some time before people get used to the idea.anthony87 said:You're absolutely right when you say that all of this makes no sense in the context of Metal Gear Solid. Actually I believe that they've now pulled the "alternate universe" card in order to explain how DmC is so radically different if that helps at all. Certainly helped me although I'd still really rather a proper Devil May Cry 5.Warachia said:I can accept this and not the new DMC game, because this, as you said, is a side story, not a direct sequel. There are also supernatural powers, possession, nanomachines that do everything, a guy with force lightning...Dickdatduck said:In MGS4 a one armed cyborg Raiden stops a giant ship from crashing into Snake by himself and a short time after that an armless cyborg Raiden fights off some solders with his sword in his mouth.
