It didn't look Devil May Cryish at all, more Ninja Gaiden. Which is basically Devil May Cry as a Ninja.Xenos Eriadin said:I have officially stopped giving a damn about this game.
I mean, I knew it would be more combat heavy than previous metal gears, but I didn't expect something like Devil May Cry. Though I guess that people who like hack-and-slash games will feel differently.
I resoundingly agree, might as well have dressed him up as Ryu since Raiden is now apparently Ryu Hyabusa. It just doesn't fit in at all with Metal Gear in any way, which is basically a stealth game made of pure win. Now its... This thing.Adam Jensen said:It sounds like shit honestly. But I'll reserve my judgement until I see that trailer.
Madara XIII said:Actually if you ever played the Online Expansion of Metal Gear Solid 4, known as Metal Gear Online, you could play as customized PMC soldiers and at random times you'd be chosen to be either, Solid Snake, Liquid Ocelot, Meryl, Johnny, Mei Ling, Raiden or Vamp.Negatempest said:The name of the Japanese God of Thunder? I'm trying to figure out the context of that question with....nm I better not think about it too much. But my point for my reply is that Raiden moved just as quick and agile as snake has over the gaming years. So the "gameplay" of Raiden in MGS4 and the gameplay of Raiden in the 1st trailer did not compute.Dickdatduck said:Platinum? The same people who made Bayonetta and Vanquish, 2 of the most pure fun games I have ever played? I was already looking forward to this game but now my anticipation is through the roof.
Look up what "Raiden" means.Negatempest said:Okay, original trailer had the name "Metal Gear: Rising" Subtitle: Lighting Bolt Action. The gameplay of said trailer had no lightning bolt action in it at all whatsoever.
The gameplay for MGO was smooth and I still play it, but the mechanics for Raiden and Vamp are drastically limited to the games mechanics.
Here's a prime example of MGO

Oh don't think wrongly of my points kind sir. I was just merely pointing out that sure the story is taken seriously, but sometimes fans take it TOO SERIOUSLY.Proverbial Jon said:You make many valid points. But somehow I never really considered just how ridiculous the storylines were when I was playing the games. I was so absorbed by the world and characters that none of it really mattered. Look at the beauty that is MGS3, it remains one of my top favourite video game storylines based on how emotive it is... and like you say, it has a man who teleports using bees, a dead guy who still counts as a boss, a 100 year old man who only lives to do battle with Snake and a muscle bound guy who can pretty much shoot lightening from his body... wtf?Madara XIII said:WAIT! NOW they jumped it?!Quantum Star said:Let me just check something quickly.
...
Yes, I do believe that Metal Gear has officially jumped the shark.
So we're gonna disregard Psycho Mantis, The Pain who can teleport with bees, Multiple Ghosts coming back from the dead, Breaking the fourth wall on any occasion, Revolver Ocelot ricocheting bullets, Grey Fox, a Monkey who Smokes, and Raiden doing crazier crap than this in MGS4 (holding back Arsenal Gear with one hand)
And THIS is where you say Metal Gear gets too weird?!
This series was convoluted and wacky from the beginning.
But the whole approach to Rising (I refuse to call it Revengeance) seems to drop all pretence of serious undertones and just fills it with as much over the top action as it can manage. I guess that is the point of the game, the whole franchise is simply bonkers so why not embrace that? I'm in no doubt that it will be a good game, a fun game for sure. But somehow it just doesn't sit right with me, mixing it into the whole MGS world.
Also, "I think it's time for Jack to let her rip!" wtf? Raiden was supossed to be incredibly ashamed of his past. MGS2 was about him learning to accept that part of his life and come to terms with it, not allowing it to hold him back or shape who he is. Now he's totally over it and embracing his nick name as a source of cheesy one liners? What the hell guys? I hope we get some sort of explaination of how he got to this point.
What most people also forget is that while Raiden was Human in MGS2 he fought off 3, count 'em 3!! Metal Gear Rays. Machines that were designed to counter Metal Gear Rex and Raiden was able to take on 3!?Negatempest said:According to most of the people here, these never happened.
"ooooo! Raiden is so awesome that I don't want to play a video game based on his MGS4 appearance." Is what I am getting from these outbursts.

To me this is the same issue with the new DMC game, just make it's own series and people will be interested.
Yeah, I played Vanquish. It was a good, solid game with some rather addictive gameplay. Sadly the story was lacking. All the characters were stereotypes, or rather, Japanese ideas of American stereotypes. Except for Sam Gideon oddly enough, he may have had a silly name but at least he wasn't the usual perfect macho super soldier, just some skinny guy in a suit. I liked that aspect about it.Madara XIII said:Oh don't think wrongly of my points kind sir. I loved the whole sci-fy vibe I felt from this series and yet like you said the game immersed me so deeply, I just kind of took it.
The problem I see why they are getting rid of alot of pretense is that this is Platinum Games we're talking about. Vanquish was an excellent game, but the story was just cheesy because it tried to hard to be serious. However there were some great elements especially with a few quips that let you know they were breaking the fourth wall.
Elaine: "Watch Out Sam! It's a Trap"
Sam: "Thanks for the Update Admiral!"
Elaine: "Be careful Sam. This robot is capable of turning into pure energy"
Sam: "Huh. Sounds like a Bad Video Game"
However I HOPE this game can still immerse us into Raiden's story and help us appreciate it more.
I felt the same about Raiden initially. I felt angry that I had been cheated out of playing as Snake and all I got was an inexperienced and whiney kid along with all his emotional baggage and annoying girlfriend. I mean, seriously?Madara XIII said:Seriously people like to forget that Raiden even existed and when they do all they remember is his depressed part of the story where he had to come to terms with his past.
No They Haven't. That bullshit was only introduced in the shitty remake twin snakes, and MGS 1 was more or less rooted in reality. MGS 2 is also mostly rooted in reality with little over the top action scenes (excluding possibly the end), and so is the third game, even it's wierdness you can accept because they don't show it off every chance they get.Nerdstar said:the metal gear seires has been known for its over the top super duper awesmely cool action cut secenes since metal gear solid 1Warachia said:When I was playing that game I was already calling bullshit on those scenes, as they were incredibly out of place, made no sense, and nobody even tried to explain them later.DustyDrB said:It's an offshoot gameplay wise, but Kojima has been clear on that from the beginning. heres a video that makes my point more clear then my words ever could
you can stop at about 3:30 but the point is crazy action secens have been satple of MGS since day one
i beg to differ about the shitty remake(i personally loved it). and while it is true that they amped up the crazy action factor in the remake, the orginal did have its moments of retarteawesomeness(its a trademaked word now like revengenceWarachia said:No They Haven't. I'm not going to debate on how good or bad the remake is, I hated it because of all the moments they added that made no sense and didn't fit into the game, and I said mostly rooted in reality, the main difference here is this throws all pretence of reality out of the window, in the first three games all of the moments of crazy were played down enough, or rushed past (with the exclusion of MGS 2's ending).Nerdstar said:i beg to differ about the shitty remake(i personally loved it). and while it is true that they amped up the crazy action factor in the remake, the orginal did have its moments of retarteawesomeness(its a trademaked word now like revengenceWarachia said:No They Haven't. Let's see. MGS1. Guy gets hand chopped off and has enough time to find someone close by to stop the bleeding and not die. Nano machines in the human body....sure I'll bite. Man faces tank with only grenades. Man destroys helicopter with whatever he has on hand. Another man in said helicopter shoots down jets. Stupid soldier left behind to guard protagonist. A few dozen ravens eating every piece of a person in seconds including bones. Man destroys a super tank alone. Cybernetic Ninja with stealth camo. Psychotic Psychic breaking the 4th wall.Warachia said:I'm not going to debate on how good or bad the remake is, I hated it because of all the moments they added that made no sense and didn't fit into the game, and I said mostly rooted in reality, the main difference here is this throws all pretence of reality out of the window, in the first three games all of the moments of crazy were played down enough, or rushed past (with the exclusion of MGS 2's ending).Nerdstar said:i beg to differ about the shitty remake(i personally loved it). and while it is true that they amped up the crazy action factor in the remake, the orginal did have its moments of retarteawesomeness(its a trademaked word now like revengenceWarachia said:No They Haven't. As you said, you can find at least one moment of something almost hitting something else in slow motion, or changing the direction of missiles with your mind or some equivalent in each game, but twin snakes couldn't get enough of these moments, they completely forgot about pacing, dramatic tension and by the ending decided they could give snake super speed in order to dodge a machine gun's bullets fired at almost point-blank range, and then they had a painfully long drawn out scene of Liquid dying that removed any and all emotion involved.
