Dear flamers from The Big Picture: MOVIE BOB WAS RIGHT.

You may not like it. You may not agree with it. But his line of thinking and those of the megacorps are completely in sync. This video is proof.
An internal video of something that may not ever actually exist.

Not that Bob didn't make some good points, loath as I am to admit it, but "proof" seems a bit strong.
Why does it being internal matter? I'm willing to bet that internal video cost more to make (in billable hours) than any 3 productions of similar length here on the Escapist combined.

You don't shell out that kind of dough without a concrete pitch or brand to go with it. Microsoft is serious about this.

Somebody at Microsoft really liked Mamoru Hosoda's Summer Wars [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1474276/]...

To be fair that was a awsome anime movie >_>
Oh my god- did anyone else notice that not ONLY is that very similar to the Digimon Movie (first part with Deaboromon) but that they actually copy an EXACT scene?

When the timer starts and the boy makes that face...go watch the Digimon movie, exact same thing happens. Still, given that Summer Wars was directed by the same guy who did Girl who Leapt through Time then this is now a must for me.

I shall buy it off Play immediately.

A few positive things that could come out of this...

~Microsoft could potentially bring Kinect to the PCs.
~It will bring more people into PC gaming.

A few thoughts on why they are going this route...

~Steam sales are dominating the PC market
~Grabbing those casual gamers from Facebook and other sites.

How it will effect any of us here...

~It won't. Everything provided there is already on Steam and consuls. Rest easy this is not marketed towards you. And moreover... who cares?

You can't hide behind Steam for this, there are already a number of Steam games that also have GFWL.
These idiots have enough moey to throw around to get this crap attatched to a good number of triple A titles before it inevatibley flops, people will mistakenly purchase the game from online retailers like steam not knowing it's enabled and every unit shifted will convince them that it's working and that we love it, so it will take ages to die off.

This isn't about casual gaming, it has it's place.

This is about Microshite attempting to control a market, something it has the money to do and the ineptitide to do very badly.

How many of us use windows? is it because it's a good operating system? not really, it's because it works (sort of) with the most games/software.

I'm using the overpriced apology for vista (windows 7) myself. I have a mirriad of 3rd party softwasre in place to cut down and optomise the lumbering beast that runs my machine so that the O/S doesn't hinder performance.

Forget the target audiences, do you want a buggy peice of software eating your system resources and tied to what would otherwise be a good game?

If no, start emailing microsoft, tell them this isn't on and keep teling them until they listen.

Crap, Summer Wars isn't actually out yet... oh well, pre-ordered.
Oh yes, and for the sake of OT, dumbing down gaming is bad unless it's purely for face book because that's where these kind of customers go to play games anyway etc etc

In fact, after seeing more trailers, that IS just the first half of Digimon stretched over a movie... up to and including the people watching through computers and cell phones, and the cheering for an internet avatar fighting off an evil virus stuff.

Serious win.
/Cough, sorry. I get excited sometimes.

What, is this some sort of operating system that turns your pc into a 360 style os? They REALLY think anyone in their right mind is going to want that?
If it is just a replacement for GFWL then go right ahead. Waste time and money competing with steam.

Thank god for Steam.
The only thing I never feel like criticising Valve over.
So true.... so true. At leave Valve has some sense not to mess with what is working for them... so far.

I don't see what's so horrible about it. So we're not the demographic, who cares? There are a thousand things that obviously were never designed for me.
Agreed. And it seems like with a bit of tweaking that it could be useful to the non casuals.

Just horrible, how can they actually thin THIS COULD WORK LOL.
They can't get the casual gamers out of facebook to their thingy. (alteast i hope so)
They can't get hardcore pc-gamers out of steam.
So what do they have that would force one (or both) of these categories to use this thing.

And about that future of gaming thing, this just looks like a steam whit a facebook attached.
