Pfft. Bionicle was pretty shite to be honest.

I mean, it had a pretty cool backstory, but it became pretty clear they were milking it for all it was worth. The models were not fun to make, and weren't very interesting or fun to play with once made.

Real LEGO will always outshine them. It's just so versatile, so fun to make and just... awesome. Easily my favorite childhood toy. I'm almost tempted to get all my Lego out and play with it when I go home this weekend

I completely agree, I was never that big on Bionicle, it took 5 minutes to assemble them and they were boring after that.

the bionicles weren't so much lego as they were an experimental action figure, that actually worked quite well, but it has been milked, and I actually kind of glad they're putting it out of its misery, after some of the weirder ones they've put out lately.

I grow up with bionicles, they were like the only toy I ever had a kid. (And I had a lot.)

-Shrug- I've grown out of them, if they want to cancel it, they can, but the story line got confusing after all the movies, which were filled with plotholes, I miss the first couple of series, they were cool.

See, this may have something to do with it:

A few years back, Lego decided that they were going to move one of their factories out of the United States and into a country where they could make the same product, essentially, for less. (Use your imagination.) This resulted in a huge shift in the company and the amount of product they were able to produce, since the factory was downsized in the move. As such, Lego as a company was only selling to Big Box stores; Toys R' Us, Walmart, Target, etc.

Now I don't know what happened past that (because I no longer work at a toy store and am no longer in the loop with these things), but that may have something to do with it.

As many of you probably don't know (seeing hoe this is a gaming site) Lego is ending the highly popular Bionicle toy line. And without a big send off either. After some thinking, I've come to the conclusion that the marketing directors at lego are idiots. Why in hell would they throw out one of their most popular series? It makes no sense. Anyone care to elaborate?

Because the backstory was getting too ludicrous.

Come on! We ***** at video game developers for exactly the same thing!

yea i totally lost it after their first series. after that i had no idea what the story was behind any of the later series.

but it was at that point that i kinda got bored of the whole thing. When i was interested in them they were great fun!

I just want to point out a). Those are the crappy sets. Hopefully they do come out with the normal ones. And b). Those are the same F*ing parts. Nothing new. at all. I know I sound like a fanboy (which, after writing the post, I probably am) but I still love these toys. It's just annoying that they send them off with the crappy little $7 doller ones. Oh well. Rest in Peice(s) Bionicle.

Lego lost my respect a long time ago. When they started making boxes of Lego for building JUST ONE THING.

That's like giving a child a massive box of crayons then telling the child that it is only allowed to use the orange one and is only allowed to draw the sun.

I remember when you used to get a box of assorted lego pieces and you could go nuts to your hearts content.

Lego Technic all the way. I've still got my fully working model of a car which I spent 60GBP on back when Legoland Windsor just opened. It still sits on top of my shelf unscathed after constructing it nearly 15 years ago.

I didn't like them.

They weren't fun to build. At all. I liked building things like large cars and buildings, things that would come together at the last moment and look awesome.

I still have one of my old Lego sets. I only like the giant packs where they gave you a booklet of like 20 things you could build.

There sure is a lot of hate for bionicle on this thread. personally I loved the things. Maybe they were not as good as Lego System sets, but its important to remember that this was the first majorly successful Lego Technic line, which counts for something. I think for them to cancel it may not be the worst thing, considering they sort of lost creativity after maybe the Rahkshi. Still, Lego tends to cancel all of their best lines in favor of Corporate tie-ins. Does anybody remember the Alpha Team guys? Those sets were some of my favorites.

you're talking about Rock Raiders. Wait they're trying to repeat Rock Raiders? That won't work and its just sad. They did the same thing with the Alpha Team. They had another series called Dino-Attack. Fun playsets, but it just did't feel like Lego. Another one that should have stayed longer was the original Mars Mission ones.

Amen! And I only had one or two Bionicles. They weren't very versatile in their entertainment value, imo. They could perform one or two actions, and it was kind of fun to mix and match them, but I never had a knack for that when I still had the things.
