This reminds me of the level editor in SC and WC3. So far, maps from both of those have become full retail games in their own right. League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth are based off of WC3 maps like Defense Of The Ancients and Tides of Blood, and TD's started in SC. A lot of depth in those, like to see what people make for this. Maybe you can spawn units that fight and we'll get a tug of war like game based on spawning friendly AI to fight the other guys AI.

Well, when I heard they were making a sequel I just thought that they were milking the first game for some more money. I didn't think they could expand on the LBP formula in any significant way (I was just expecting some new switches or something) but they've certainly proven me wrong here. This sounds amazing. I love game-making software more than anything, and maybe I can finally put RPG Maker XP to rest.

I agree. PS3 and a PC combined guarantees you the most exclusives. Quality of exclusives though, completely opinion based here: I like the 360 more INITIALLY. Considering the "exclusives" keep popping up on PC I might just go ahead and say over all PS3 wins.

If I had to choose just 1 console and couldn't afford a PC, I'd go 360 though :p

Anyways I don't mean to drag this so far off topic. Only poor people who can't afford multiple platforms need to argue over which console is best :p
Sadly I am one of those poor people. Otherwise I wouldn't be playing my PS3 on a standard-definition TV and I'd have a gaming PC.

You've basically said what I wanted to say.

This is pretty good news. Not only has Sony really brought the whole Play/Create/Share style of gaming that we were familiar with in the PC scene onto consoles, but they've gone a step further and basically made an awesome game engine for LBP2. Though I question the wisdom of making a console RTS (unless LBP2 allows for keyboard and mouse support, which it probably doesn't, since it would be too godly to exist if it did), this is still sweet news. What awesome value too. A 70$ game gives you access to everything that everyone's made. It may be a bit HD intensive (but unlike the X360, the PS3 HDs are actually sensibly priced), but just imagine all the possible games you can get.

When will the PS3 be worth the money? I mean if I didn't already have a 360 and a gaming PC it would be worth it but as it is... I can't justify having yet another console for about 5 exclusive titles that are good.

inFamous
LBP2 (not 1, 1 wasn't quite good enough)
Uncharted 1 and 2
I want to say MGS4 but I haven't played an MGS since it was on the PS1
God of War 3

And that's all I want from a PS3 :S
What do you get from your Xbox360 though?

Personally I'm not enormously happy with my PS3 purchase (I definitely would not be with an Xbox either, though its atleast cheaper), it just hasn't really been particularly worth it when considering the money spent, though I did greatly enjoy LBP. With the second one maybe I will finally appreciate it.
Not much anymore. PC gives me far more than both. Initially 360 gave me Mass Effect, Dead Rising, Gears of War 1 and 2, GTA4, Halo 3, Force Unleashed (not a great game but was exclusive for a while and fun).
The thing I see, and remember this is my opinion and not flame-bait, is that the best combination to have these days is a gaming PC and a PS3. Most "exclusives" on 360 come out on PC, multiplatforms are just better to get on PC if you can, which leaves any kind of home console to be bought based on exclusives. And seeing as a lot of 360 "exclusives" come out on PC and are better on that platform, PS3 seems the way to go.

Yeah, that's completely off topic. On topic, LBP2 sounds awesome. I'm sure some people who've sunk heaps of money into the first one's DLC will be glad to hear it all carries over. It's nice to see they're innovating rather than just refining the first's base design. As far as flexibility goes, I'm sure LBP2 will be the best there is. Although for PC, SC2 will be king. I'm considering getting that solely for the custom games.
But! if you go deeper into the problem, you'll realise some of the biggest exclusives aren't on PC.

Gears Of War 2.Halo 3.Fable 3.Halo:Reach.Castle Crashers <Love it the most

Anyway, OP I thank you for making my day even better! I need a PS3 damn it...

Xbox360 is good enough though. Maybe for PSP?

Sounds quite fun, just hope they aren't crossing the barrier between amateur level developer to nutjob over-zealous hobby-fanatic developer. Of course the title doesn't apply to those who get Paid doing that.

I'm less excited about the game, but that QR code thing is pretty damn exciting. Imagine hiding those in pictures, or as specifically designed textures in portraits, using them for all kinds of secretive means. Imagine the kinds of things you could hide, for someone else to find out, if they knew how.
Twenty years from now it will be revealed the CIA used LBP2 to convey messages out of enemy territory. And they had fun doing it.

If QR code is what I think it is...

Then we are in for some interesting times.

Interesting. Whats that a picture of, by curiosity, do you know?

Looks like many of the programs you can get on the PC that makes games. It's by far not a new concept, but I reckon they will do well with accessibility.... If they can make it that accessible.

Sounds great! Since they where so strict on clone games like Mario, etc last time they may have shot themselves in the foot. In LBP the best I could build was a rocket propelled Balloon so I won't do well in this one.
Off topic, I realize, but what's with your avatars? I don't get it.

Was I the only one that had the imagery of Yahtzee's little white bodied avatar-thing chewing and destroying on the box of LBP2 like a insane dog would tear up a big bone of lamb?
...No? Weird.

And of course console users are going to hail this as an innovation despite the PC having this for let's see...

One of the most awesome bits of info is how levels can be saved to a QR code [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QR_Code] and printed out. When the QR code is put in front of the PlayStation Eye, it'll load up the level.
I'm guessing the QR code just acts as an identity number, and doesn't contain any information itself, so your PS3 will still have to be hooked up to the internet in order to download the level identified by the QR code. Still, it's better than trying to explain the exact name of the level over chat or sharing a written number, if it's actually convenient enough to print and scans accurately enough.

Well, I have the Starcraft 2 Editor, so I already can do much more. Still, looks and sounds absolutely amazing. I've put countless hours into LBP1, and this is sounding even better. WANT TO BUY.

(Not to mention, you'd be amazed at what bored gamers can do with an editor.)

I'm probably going to end up buying a ps3 once the next generation of consoles come out so I can finally enjoy all the ps2/ps3 exclusives.

I don't know about this... it seems like a cool idea and all. But is this really what we want? thsis isn't as much a "game" as it is a computer program letting you create games. I know that they'll probably have a campaign mode too, but this just seems... I mean I have LBP, I think it's pretty awesome and it's really fun to faff about making not so serious levels. or just playing the player-made/campaign levels. But I have nowhere the creative energy to put work into making a "real" level. It ceases to be fun when I try. And making your own game? Like I said, I'm not so sure...
