I hope these attacks continue just long enough for SONY to pull out of the console hardware business and become a mediocre multi-platform publisher.

Good God, they are going to get caught and destroyed publicly. You can't hide on the internet forever.

Edit: Really the problem that I have with this is that if they manage to win and beat Sony into the ground, Microsoft will step up and have complete control of the multi platform games.

You pissed about Sony, Lulzsec? Wait till Microsoft monopolizes the video game industry. Hope you like that 20$s a month Xbox live charge.

crazed anti sony rant
Don't like sony? Don't buy their stuff.

If you agree with these hackers than you agree with removing freedom of choice. Why would you want to remove my freedom of choice? I don't understand that at all.
Excuse me, did you read anything or just skim it?????

I am not anti-Sony. I do have severe issue with them flooding the market with cheap shit they call products because they invested in one format and that format being the lesser of the 2. I also have issues with the rental instead of buy thing they are pushing towards alongside Apple. and the stereo market they hold? brand name only, the product is average at best compared to above average it was in the 80's.

As for the security issues? Sony's track record speaks for itself. same for if they care about the customer is inside the track record. I dont care what company it is, if they lose any customer personal information then they get a dont trust from me. they lose it and passwords were not encrypted? they get a hell fucking no trust them. they get hacked like Sony was hacked... there is no way i will do bussiness with them directly.

read this site:
http://datalossdb.org/ or http://datalossdb.org/incident_highlights/53-sony-had-how-many-breaches

Is thast anti sony ranting? NO its pointing out they fucked up. they screwed the pooch when it came to being entrusted with customer info. for fucks sake passwords were not encrypted! personal information found on a Sony server without a hack needed? c'mon what do you need to know more to know that company cannot be trusted? its not fucking rocket science!

And i mentioned fanboys, maybe next time i will say you instead.

Yes these hackers will, they are a closed group and small, and very very vocal. one will fuck up or the FBI who has a personal vendata will eventualy track them down.

Well, sooner or later one of these douche bags is going to be caught. It's inevitable. Especially since the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI, and a slew of other multinational departments are already on the case of the PSN Network hack. All it will take for a firestorm of evidence on these assholes is one of these damn punks being shackeled in a sealed room getting interrogated by the same kind of guys who squeezed the juicy, messy details about Bin Laden out of war hardened terrorists. Oh, I'm sure they'll be "loyal" to the cause at that moment. I hope they keep poking the bear, I honestly do. The more they poke, the more swift the inevitable lethal retaliation will be. Last time I checked, computer skills don't really help when you're trying to avoid Big Bubba's penetration attempts in the community showers in a Federal prison.

p.s. Hackers are pond scum - I hope they all rot in hell.

Dear Sony,

May I suggest some basic things you may want to decide to do in the near future. One of which is invest in internet security personel who know what they are doing. I suggest you fire your current ones, as they obviously are too busy looking at porn to do their damn job. I also suggest that you then listen to your new employees, and follow their instructions on how not to be hacked successfully on a daily basis.

Furthermore, you might want to look into taking your internet services offline temporarily, as this always brews hate towards the people who are at fault. This will buy you some time to implement the security correctly, as opposed to half assing it again.

These guys are a fucking joke. Multiple sources confirmed that none of the usernames and passwords they leaked worked, Sony outright denied a breach (which would make sense if none of the US/Pass combos worked...) on their first attack. Their second attack... what did they claim to get? Nothing? And the third attack? They claim they have it, but nothing is verified.

I hope these guys get sent to prison and tenderly loved. They are basically the epitome of the worst of internet culture, combined with stupid "hackers" who are just seeking their 15 minutes of fame.

Okay, there comes a time when I can't be mad at Lulzsec anymore. I haven't quite reached that point, as they're pretty much just doing it to be dicks, but...really, Sony? Really? You're just gonna sit back and let this happen? At this point, these attacks are just pointing out how pathetic your response to this phenomenon has been.

Are you keeping everything in plain text Sony? Because in SonyPictures.com you have done it. Now I am wondering about the rest.

I guess "make.believe" refers to the type of network security Sony has in place. XD

At this point, you can pretty much just shout "I HACKED SONY OMG" and point to a random text file and the internet media will eat it up and plaster it all over the front page. Gotta get dem hits!

A concise history of recent Sony hacks:
http://attrition.org/security/rants/sony_aka_sownage.html

That reminds me of 6 years ago, when Sony's rootkit came to surface and a Sony rep said, it wouldn't matter because most of its customers don't know what a rootkit is anyway.

That's what some of us have been saying for a while.

This isn't an unprovoked attack.

Sony tried to hack us before, now they're getting a taste of their own medicine...

Also, remember SecuROM? Who was it that designed that shit?

Oh, right, Sony.

Let 'em burn.

The Irony is for me, i thought about getting DC Universe Online later in the Year, i.e. Summer before the hacks started. For the record, its published by SOE aka Sony. Now i'll prolly not do so because..well, its apparently fun beating on a dead Horse or something. I mean repeated Attacks is one thing, where you keep on pushing to see if they improved anything. But if you keep that going the entire Time, you dont really give them a Chance to do anything.

How are they supposed to upgrade anything anywhere when they are under constant attack? That being said, its only a matter of time before other Groups become active and piss over LulzSec simply because they think "its enough now", not to defend Sony, just to stop the whole "lets hack sony"-movement thats going now.

So really it becomes a Question of what happens first, LulzSec gives up and calls it quits, the Feds act and go after them (not just the US mind you) or some other Hacker Group starts actively hacking LulzSec in return.

First off, LulzSec didn't fail to acquire any user data from Nintendo. They specifically chose not to take any. They were only after a server configuration. If you paid attention to their tweets, you'd know they are big Sega and Nintendo fans. (Primarily because of the Nintendo 64. Also my favourite console, funnily enough)
LulzSec also leaked this source code through a 54MB download and posted it on their twitter feed. Making Sony look even worse.

Are you seriously saying Sony is the worst offender of what you say? Is this really how you justify the massive damage these hackings have done?
Sony is certainly a relevant offender for the tech crowd. Whether they are the worst or not depends on individual perspective to some degree, and I'm not convinced it particularly matters. If you're morally against these hackings, as you claim, then it's entirely irrelevant. If you're for it, I still see no compelling need to develop a scale on which to prioritise the greatest offender.

Your metaphor doesn't apply as it's not just treating the person badly in turn (as in, speaking with your wallet and never buying from the company again) but going to their house, stealing and messing up their stuff and actively trying to ruin their life.
These metaphor arguments are inherently subjective. The problem lies in actual practice. The majority is often characterised by apathy, so the minority that is motivated enough to take action in response to Sony's customer interactions won't achieve anything with an individually measured response. As you point out below, Sony is a company of considerable scale, and action against them necessarily must be of a significant scale also.

As it stands, I'm not actively in support of these hackers, and I won't go as far as to make a case for their actions as being 'right', given the repercussions on customers (and possibly employees, depending on how serious this becomes). I'm just not going to shed one tear of sympathy on the behalf of Sony as an entity. They stuck their... hand... into the wasp's nest, as far as I'm concerned. It's also painfully apparent their security is sub-par (an SQL injection; really, Sony?). If I leave my house unlocked and get robbed, I will blame myself.

Bringing up the Japanese earthquake isn't retarded nor is it a free pass, it's awareness of context, which one should have before pronoucing such decisive judgements on a company of this scale, or any scale really.
It's an irrelevant context. Besides, Sony is not solely a Japanese entity.

Edit: Also if we are going to start introducing psychology, look up kohlbergs stages of moral reasoning. I think it's rather relevant to the stance you're agreeing with ¬¬
I did, and I'm afraid I don't see the relevance.
