QFT. They could probably pick any other company out of a hat right now and do the same thing to them. Sony's just the one in the crosshairs. Customers were safe before all these hackers started pulling shit to make a point. I mean, the first big breach was just angry hackers trying to make a point right? If their security was so bad, why wasn't the first hack done by criminals trying to steal money? Why is it that the only danger Sony is in is from pricks trying to prove how in danger they are?
Ah yes, the voice of reason. At least, you would be if LulzSec was hacking Sony to 'show the flaws in their security'. LulzSec describe themselves as...

Lulz Security® (LulzSec), the world's leaders in high-quality entertainment at your expense
Not only are they aware that they're only hurting the customers...That's their entire motivation!

This is upsetting now.... simply upsetting. I'm a customer of SOE MMOs and now i have my info put at risk every single day, I'm in danger, I'm the victim of this.

I've done nothing to deserve it... nothing.

it also completely stuns me how so many can not grasp the full impact of what's going on here. The lack of compassion, the lack of understanding, it's getting kinda scary now, and I'm worried about gamers as a whole.

This will not, and has no turned me against Sony and it never will. Beating on the hostages is not how you make a point.

If Sony goes down do you think they will stop there?

Nintendo, Xbox and the bastion of nerd love...Steam.

Who will be laughing then? Will everyone still be laughing at all?

From what I understand, (one of) the motive of LulzSec is to "take down" Sony. Given these recent attacks to follow through on it, I think I have an opinion of what's going on here.

War.

LulzSec is waging digital war on Sony, launching attack after attack in an attempt to get Sony out of the picture. These aren't just some kids poking at files for fun, they are trying to force Sony out of the market by ruining their reputation with these cyber attacks, and if that doesn't work I wouldn't find more meaningful attacks against Sony surprising. Imagine if, instead of swiping info from the PSN, they deleted info from PSN, or took other steps to meaningfully damage Sony's data, we could be looking at the early steps of what a true digital war looks like, even if it's not between countries as we understand them in the physical world.

Just my 2 cents, probably crazy, for all that's known these could just be kiddies poking fun at a corporation, but who knows for sure...

When I treat my fellow individuals poorly, I get treated poorly in return. That's not some moral failing on the part of others, it's basic social interaction. When a corporation shows consistent disregard for its customers, why should they be exempt from the same fundamental consequence?

Bringing up the Japanese earthquake is simply retarded. One doesn't get a free pass for poor customer treatment because of a natural disaster in the country of origin. That's just bizarre.
Are you seriously saying Sony is the worst offender of what you say? Is this really how you justify the massive damage these hackings have done?

Your metaphor doesn't apply as it's not just treating the person badly in turn (as in, speaking with your wallet and never buying from the company again) but going to their house, stealing and messing up their stuff and actively trying to ruin their life.

Bringing up the Japanese earthquake isn't retarded nor is it a free pass, it's awareness of context, which one should have before pronoucing such decisive judgements on a company of this scale, or any scale really.

Edit: Also if we are going to start introducing psychology, look up kohlbergs stages of moral reasoning. I think it's rather relevant to the stance you're agreeing with ¬¬

Awesome picture.

But yeah, this is getting beyond stupid now, yes Sony need to beef up security on their sites, we get that, but this is just a dick move by these hackers that will probably end with them getting hacked.

Does anyone actually think these HAckers are working for the customers benefit? I mean didn't they ask for Donations?
They got a huge donation from some guy earlier today. 7200$
$7200............ Dear lord.

This is only going to get worse.

Is there anyone else that thinks that might have been from Microsoft or Nintendo?

Ugh bored now, Lulsec are so late to the party they're like the people who still think the Cake is a Lie is funny.

Hacking Sony isn't even impressive anymore it's like suckerpunching a blind man, at least give Sony a few months to build their defenses before you try and knock them down.

This could be a good thing, Sony and even the FBI can track the details of that payment back to whoever set up the account that money will go too. If Sony are smart they might be able to find a whipping boy to release some of their tension on.

I thought Lulzsec were using bitcoin donations because they specifically can't be traced? :/

Short sighted and "we mess them up so they treat us better" logic make me lose faith in humanity, or at least the moral reasoning of my fellow gamers/net dwellers to whom i'm grouped with.

Sorry but if you're that upset with Sony don't buy their products simple as that. Don't advocate ruining thousands of lives which is what will happen if Sony does go under, it's the little man who rely on Sony and their subsidurary companiy's paychecks that gets crushed here not the CEOs who have millions of Yen or Dollars or whatever of their own money to fall back on if they find themselves out of a job.

Grow up and realise that actions like this never hurt the big fish it's always our fellow little fish that suffer.

Nothings untracable when it comes to money especially E money. Time will tell I guess but that's something I do give props to Anonymous to they do actually keep anonymous and like other people have said Lulsec have slipped up by giving themselves a name and an identity eventually someone will find them either by a trap or one of the members growing an even bigger ego and confiding to someone they shouldn't.

These last few hacks haven't even gained an official reaction from sony. Sure they are getting hacked but apparently it isn't worth there time to mention it so I guess it might not be worth our time to notice.

Apparently, one member has already been arrested. The group claim they didn't know him, but everyone knows in a situation like this you disavow all knowledge.[link]http://www.theepochtimes.com/n2/technology/following-arrest-lulzsec-still-going-strong-57312.html[/link]

Come on, Sony Defense Force! Do your job and defend Sony!
Make your Giant Enemy Crabs attack LulzSec's weak-point for massive damage and sink the LulzBoat already!

Lol, this is good news for me whenever Sony gets hacked. I hate the company, ever since they ruined and took over Star Wars Galaxies in 2005. They ruined a game with millions of players, and turned that number to thousands today. Too many companies try to copy world of warcraft because they dream of bathing in the green (Money), but what they're really bathing in is the hate of their customers for this repetitive cliche attempt to make a competing game for WoW.

So they deserve to have their company completely ruined and put so many people out of work?

You're motives are fucking retarded.

The internet needs more accountability behind it. If that means attaching each person to their social security number or whatever whenever they surf the web then so be it.

If there's anything I remember from high school drama class, it's what my teacher called the "Four Joke Rule", or how many times you can repeat the same funny thing.

1st time: Audience chuckles
2nd time: Audience laughs
3rd time: Audience is pissing themselves
4th time: Audience is bored

I think this "lulz" is now falling into some negative singularity.
