Sooooo... anyone else really hoping they rename Captain Marvel back to Ms. Marvel for the film? Nope? Just me? OK :'( ....
I have to think they're setting up, or at least giving themselves room, for Kamala Khan with this. Kamala calls herself Ms. Marvel in tribute to Carol Danvers, who as you know calls herself Captain Marvel in honor of the OG, who gave her her powers. Since Kamala is an Inhuman, I have to think they're playing a long game here.

What is with these kind of unknown's (to the general masses) getting films? Like who the fuck is ant man? Who the fuck is black panther?

Superman, spiderman, batman etc are all things we grew up watching as cartoons or whatever but it seems only the comic book guys know who ant man is.

I can't even get excited about ant man, he just sounds like the most lame one ... like in Family guy when they all get super powers, ant man is Meg (who gets the ability to grow her finger nails at will).

Black panther sounds like a 70's porn star, with a handle bar mustache and afro ... and wears sex panther.
Is this your first time trolling or are you that starved for attention?

I left this video for the last clueless commentator I ran into. It worked before and it still works today...

Next time, try boning up on your subject matter before you post one of your "opinions" on this forum.
Yes, I am obviously trolling ... got a post count of over 6K on forum that hands out warnings for even calling a person a troll.

I am asking as a member of the general public who never read comics or that. Shit, I think Arrow and Flash are a little out there to have their own TV series.

Sure, comic fans are getting so excited they are squeeing at any news about them but me and everybody else who has never heard of these poorly named "hero's" ... meh!

I've never been a big a Black Panther fan. I just can't think of any storylines where he did anything interesting or controversial. I think in a way it's been a part of this diversity deal where it's "hey wheres our black Captain america??". Now don't get me wrong I'm all for being inclusive, but weirdly Black Panther kinda represents this well spoken back to africa "what could have been" muslim buzzkill. When I think of my black superheroes at least from an american perspective I'm all about Blade and Luke Cage and Isaiah Bradley and patriot or Night Thrasher. I grew up white but poor and you know my guys are Iron Man(alcoholism broken home) & Spider-man(broken home poor misunderstood) & well all the x-men(hatred xenophobia) heroes I could look at and say hey they overcame. I think most of my black friends liked Batman mostly because he had a broken home and still had all the cool stuff we couldn't afford and as we got older John Stewart but were talking marvel. I don't really have any right to speak for the black nerd community but at least in my circle none of us liked Black Panther and other than Luke Cage we just didn't really have a black Marvel superhero to look up to and thats a shame. We got Spawn which I think for teen in the 90's he was the perfect representation of what black wanted in a superhero. Man marvel should have done more with DeathLok. He could have been a pretty cool Marvel version of Cyborg is now pretty badass since the Teen titan cartoon. Unfortunately I think DeathLok finally got relegated to evil robot Terminator status since that X-Force run.

I guess what I'm saying is I'm all for a black superhero movie(Meteor man!), but I just could not care less about black Panther. I wish they'd do Luke Cage instead since we already got Blade.
My guess is that the MCU happens on a global scale, and Wakanda already is, in the comics universe, a major part of a lot of what goes on with the world shattering stuff. So Black Panther makes sense as a counterpart to Steve and Tony. And just spitballing, since Attilan changes locations frequently, I can imagine they can tie him into the Inhumans too.

There's also the fact that Black Panther is the first black superhero in mainstream comics, and interestingly enough, he's the first black superhero with superpowers. He was also an early member of The Avengers. So it makes sense Marvel would want to use him.

Also, I think Black Panther is awesome and sorely underused. I'm stoked he's getting a movie.

On the bright side, Cage is going to be on a Netflix show as a street level hero, and Deathlok is recurring on Agents of SHIELD, (hopefully they bring him back this season and have him kicking all kinds of ass instead of wasting him like last year).

Hm...exciting news. Very good, very good, but I have one important question:

What am I supposed to watch for 2015? Am I missing something, or is it really just Avengers 2 next year?

So what happened to Falcon? I thought he was going to be in Captain America 3, but it seems like he's going to be missing. I hope they explain that. And I'm glad they still mentioned Black Widow, but I would like to see a movie about her eventually.
There's always Ant-Man that's coming out about 2 months or so after Avengers 2. It's gonna be interesting to see if people really go for a movie like that or not as Ant-Man is really going to be the first one of those "Well known to comic fans, but never heard of by the general public" type movies. If people don't go for it that's not gonna bode well for stuff like Black Panther.

OT: Well i'm excited. Still very curious as to what Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch's roles are gonna be in Age of Ultron. There's clearly gonna be some great changes coming to the MCU and only time will tell how it all goes.

I was keeping tabs on this story on a live blog. Lots of news and some disappointment to be had. First, the good stuff. Awesome news to hear Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, and Inhumans are on the plate. Had a feeling the 3rd Avengers movie would be a two-parter. Kinda wondering if Captain Marvel and Inhumans will tie into The Infinity War directly or not. Plus, with the mysteries afoot over on Agents of SHIELD, will the last two movie entries be tied to the show. Not sure if Kevin Feige nixed that or was being coy about it. And I'm really stoked that Carol Danvers will get her silver screen debut. Hope to see a talented cast and crew put to this film.

Regarding the zero mention of Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, I figured as much since what was reported wasn't 100% confirmed. Either the casting is still in final negotiations or it was just a rumor. Just hope we're not left waiting too long for an answer.

As for Captain America: Civil War... I'm hesitant on this one. On the one hand, I'm sort of glad its not going to be totally based on Mark Millar's version but I really hope its not going to lead to a dead Steve Rogers. Same goes for Thor: Ragnarok, where we lose ol' Goldilocks in the third chapter.

As for Black Panther, I'm gonna leave that for the massive news report in a separate article.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/138263-Black-Panthers-Costume-Revealed-in-Marvel-Studios-Art

With the good news coming down the pipe, I'm rather bummed that there was no mention of any solo films for Black Widow or Hawkeye (and possibly War Machine and Falcon). Even more bummed there was no mention of an Incredible Hulk sequel. A lot of folks are clamoring for these characters to get their chance and still nothing? Am I the only one who'd like to see the Hulk face off against the Leader and possibly see She-Hulk make her debut? Hell, Black Widow deserves it more since she's proven to be just as popular among fans. Kevin Feige mentioned in the conference that they were doing well in the Avengers movies but wouldn't it be beneficial to all sides to give them a chance? You wouldn't have to pour in a lot of money for a Black Widow movie. Scarlett Johansson's last movie, Lucy, was made for about $40 million and it grossed 3 times that in the US. Just have it focus on her past, toss in some human level baddies like Taskmaster and the evil Black Widow (Yelena Belova in case you were wondering http://www.comicvine.com/yelena-belova/4005-19397/ ), get a good writer and director, and you've got another money maker.

Anywho, glad to hear this news. Hope to see these movies live up to the hype.

I'm with you, Slow. There's something on the back of my head telling me this looks disastrous, but I don't share the general feeling of genre-fatigue just yet. I kinda like all (eh, most of) these nerd-blockbusters, but I seriously think it's the Nolan films (DK and Inception) that took modern blockbusters forward to a point that Marvel flicks can't rival.

More OT: Avengers Three in half, classy. Though I gotta say I like what Cap Three could be, even if all I imagine is Chris and Robert going about against eachother. That's the only one of these I'm definitely seeing on the big screen.

well, i suppose it doesnt have to be all Grade A heroes; you've got everything Agents of Shield and the Netflix shows could churn up, and some other filler first time on screen.

EDIT, and for the record, disappointed a lot of people seem to view Norton's Hulk as a failure

does it matter if they are heard of?
Most hadn't heard of Ironman, and marvel managed to make 3 movies that a lot of people loved, they also managed to make a shared universe in a way no one thought possible.

There was once a time Superman, Spiderman, Batman were unheard of outside of their fandoms, until someone decided to put them on radio shows/tv shows/Saturday morning cartoons. Someone had to make that initial move to get them in the public eye.
Imagine the first time the general public heard of Spiderman or Batman, a lot probably had a similar reaction to you and Antman.

Marvel have sold their rights to their most recognisable characters (Fantastic 4, Xmen, Spiderman) but have a massive catalogue of varied characters they can tap into and make a fortune with. If their formula works for Guardians, it'll work for any of these new releases.

They are all Marvel has to work with. With the exception of Hulk, all of Marvel's A-list heroes have their movie rights with other studios. The only reason Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, etc. are now A-list is only because of the movies, before they came out Iron Man was as much an unknown character to the masses as the characters getting their own movies now.

Marvel's whole business model for these movies is taking obscure hero's that no one knows about and turning them into properties which leave all DC has except for Batman in the dust.

And on a side note, Ant Man was supposed to have his movie be released when Iron Man 2 was, but it was changed due to the unexpected success of the first Iron Man movie (which I suspect you where probably asking "who is this guy" in the year before his movie came out).

So who wants to guess who Carol will lock horns with? As the "MCU's most powerful hero" it's gonna have to be a very big hitter. There's a storyline from the comics involving the Brood but it could easily come off as an Alien rip off on film. Personally I'd bet on either A.I.M and the Super Adaptoid or someone like Korvac.
I would hope maybe just the Kree. I'd be happy with just the Kree.

Weird no mention of finally having a black super hero film, or I guess it doesn't count if he isn't female.
I've hot a huge article about Black Panther coming as soon as I finish it.

Agents of Sheild hasn't aired in my country yet, so I can't comment on them, but I'm sure they will have something sorted :)

I see Marvel has taken the Harry Potter/Twilight/Hobbit/Hunger Games road and split the final entry in its cash cow franchise into two parts. Because why milk an infinite amount of money when you can milk infinity plus one?
But do do that would be... to court death #yeaaaaahhh
I did not follow that at all.

Luke Cage is one of the four Netflix series leading into the Defenders series. I dunno if he'll make it to the big screen, but it's all one universe so it's possible.
Blade had three movies. Three movies that made quite a bit of money back in its day. Some even say that Blade's success was what inspired movie makers to think about making movies based on comic books again after the weirdness that was Batman and Robin.

And on a personal note it is because of the success of those movies that I'm surprised that it took so long for a studio to try to make a movie based off a Black comic book character again. All that shit about how minority led movies don't sell, and yet a movie based of a Black chracter no one knows does well based on pure spectacle? What do they think will happen if a movie is both fun to watch and well written? This move by marvel should have happened a looooooooong time ago.

As someone who generally doesn't read comic books, this recent experiment by MCU is really tempting me to get in to some comic book readings.
