And so we see what was once a promising and intelligent franchise descend into populism and stupidity. All for the "awesome", of course.
Odd. The game wasn't any smarter in the first installment than in the second (or apparently the third from what we know). I see this a lot though. I really want to know what was so appealing about a clunky and overburdened inventory system that makes people say this. Because that and the Mako were the only parts that were really dropped in ME2.

Why would shepherd, a walking armory of 3-5 weapons and biotics (possibly), bother with melee?

Caught my attention with the new melee combat. Maybe I can challenge someone to a fist fight.

Much as I like spending half a fight behind cover waiting for either my shield's recharge function or the enemy to share the fire and missles with the rest of my squad, melee shepard might be pretty damn fun, if you'll excuse my partially biased I-like-punching-things standpoint.

EDIT: (Since it's in half the thread now, I won't bother spoiler-ing this) I recall that renegade/saved-the-collector-base Shepard said something like "If you get greedy or delusional with power, we're all screwed." in the last conversation between him and Illusive Man. Shepard sounded angry even though I'd been trying to get along with Cerberus that whole playthrough. I don't really get the impression our choices have a lot to say in the long run, even though I saved the Rachni, I probably won't get more than a few bugs that would have been there anyway turning to help me in a few encounters. If that's the case, what might be the point of someone going back to play the first two when 3 is out?

So The Illusive Man is going to be pissed at you regardless?

I never choose for the "salvage the Collector base" ending, but wouldn't that choice make him all happy and squishy with Shepard, or is there something I'm missing?
I'm positive they'll explain it if you did save the base. Otherwise, that's a huge plot hole. Perhaps Shep's become too much trouble, or the Illusive Man wants to cover his tracks.
Then Mass Effect 3 better start with Shepard running over The Illusive Man's cat, or something. I don't know why else he'd sent space ninjas after Shep since ME2 give you enough dialoge options to buddy up to him.

Unless Bioware decided to simply make him an enemy just because. So much for friends in high places, huh?
I'm guessing when choosing the renegade ending is that it has something to do with the reaper indocoration thingy that happens to people who aren't sheppard and his gang.

Does melee mean that there won't be any terribly big bosses? Because I seriously doubt Shepard will go up to a Reaper and punch it to death.
So that they could invoke the trope "Did you just punch out Cthulu?" Reapers=Giant Squid=Cthulu/

Will there be Space Ducks?
Better yet; The space ducks are a romance option.

Who needs Ashley or Liara when you can get with this?

Sounds alright to me. Though the "hardcore RPG fans" will no doubt be whining.
Dunno i consider myself pretty 'hardcore rpg fan' considering it's the genre i play most since early Ultima's and i love the idea of dynamic combat. I don't play RPGs for turn based actions, i play them for plot and it's presentation. When i want to take turns on face slapping i have tabletop sessions and even then rarely use dice.

But maybe, after all i am the very special snowflake?...

Well if thats the case then it just further proves his incompetence. Everything he does ends in either the team dieing, or going rouge. The only successful operation Cerberus has preformed was rebuilding the Normandy. Everything else failed, or the team went rouge. Or a combination of the two.

Man, I really want to kill that dick.
I'm sure it will be something where he thought he could resist it and had "his best scientists on the job," assuming that guess is even correct. But yeah, I guess running a shadow organization that skirts the edge of the law and morality doesn't always end so well for those involved.

The turrets would be a nice edition if anyone actually played the engineer. Nevertheless, excited about the next installment in this awesome franchise and simultaneously despondant about all the inevitable bitching from the RPG hard ons who hated ME2. Let's be realistic the original ME was never an RPG, at the most it was a cover based shooter with RPG elements and when you're cover mechanic is broken, you're AI is severly damaged and all of the side quests are identical then that degrades the gameplay a fair bit. Funny how people seem to gloss over that when fondly remembering ME1.

Hehe, its like giving a bunch of morally and ethically bankrupt scientists lots of money and free rain to do whatever they want leads to bad things.

But what surprises me most is how they seem to screw over humans more than other races. For a "humans first" organization... they don't seem to be achieving their goal all that well.

I feel the need to point out an omission that pisses me off.

Also they promised melee in the Vanguard class of ME2 and it didn't pan out, so take it with a grain of salt.

So not for the PC?

Also, it's quasi, not qasi.

Because the translation was probably mistaken Vanguards the only cqc class in Mass Effect. So I wouldn't be surprise if there was other specializations to improve upon. They also said that they were increasing the skills in ME3. My bet they are talking about the Vanguard class or different combat skills.
I played a vanguard in ME2, it was my favorite class so far, however i rarely used the melee more than i had to, instead favoring my shotgun at close range. The point i was trying to make though was why is a sci-fi rpg/shooter bothering with melee?
