Wait... Wouldn't a commercial free childhood just make you far-far more prone to advertisements in your adult life?

This isn't even the first time McDonald's has used Spider-Man as a basis for it's kids meal toys. During the 90's Fox animated series they did a series of toys based off of it, not to mention the ones they did for Batman Returns and Batman the Animated Series.

If the worst thing that can happen to a kid is to play with Super Hero Happy Meal toys to these guys, then they must live in a happy candy (sugar free of course) coated world of flying pink dolphins.

"Commercial free childhood", do these guttersnipes realize that everything they do is a commercial? It might not be for a product, but for an ideal-but still a commercial ideal in any case (they have to get funds somehow, right?).

Umm, they are aware that they are probably releasing those toys due to the popularity of that Marvel Cartoon on Cartoon Network right and that superheros like Captain America actually provide a good message for kids.

These guys got big off of the childhoods of the last few generations. Why shouldn't this generation be allowed to have a couple of toys from the Marvel Universe?

First of all, I think CCFC went a little overboard with Mcdonalds, although I can see why they're doing it. If you care to read what i've posted below you'll see what drives them (their mission statement) and a quick summary regarding research I did on children and their learning environment (I studied more about violence and aggression specifically although I gleamed some general information as well).

Here is CCFC's mission statement:

<spoiler=Campaign for a Commercial Free Childhood>
ABOUT CCFC

Who we are

Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood is a national coalition of health care professionals, educators, advocacy groups, parents, and individuals who care about children. A project of Third Sector New England in Boston, CCFC is the only national organization devoted to limiting the impact of commercial culture on children. CCFC?s staff and Steering Committee are activists, authors, and leading experts on the impact of media and marketing on children. Most of us are also parents.

Our mission

CCFC?s mission is to reclaim childhood from corporate marketers. A marketing-driven media culture sells children on behaviors and values driven by the need to promote profit rather than the public good. The commercialization of childhood is the link between many of the most serious problems facing children, and society, today. Childhood obesity, eating disorders, youth violence, sexualization, family stress, underage alcohol and tobacco use, rampant materialism, and the erosion of children?s creative play, are all exacerbated by advertising and marketing. When children adopt the values that dominate commercial culture?dependence on the things we buy for life satisfaction, a ?me first? attitude, conformity, impulse buying, and unthinking brand loyalty?the health of democracy and sustainability of our planet are threatened. CCFC works for the rights of children to grow up?and the freedom for parents to raise them?without being undermined by commercial interests. [/spoiler]

So.. they don't seem like bad people really in my opinion. They just care about kids and their exposure to the media. Is this a problem? It could be (think about smoking ads and if you have a kid, whether you want them seeing that? That's the kind of thing the CCFC is against).

A few years ago I did a study for college about how violence and aggression can affect a child's development. To make a long story short, my research turned up some more general info such as:

- A child's learning environment shapes who they are (that is, they mimic adults, such as their parents, tv shows, other peoples behavior -- they're always watching)
- Advertising may be a problem (or maybe not depending on your point of view) because it enforces things like stereotyping (obvious ones like boys like blue, girls like pink), and shapes our children which affects our nation down the road. It's worth paying attention what they're being taught.
- To the best of my knowledge aggression can only increase, as a child plays sports, violent or competitive video games, etc.
- There is correlation suggesting a link between increased aggression levels and violence

Wait... what fucking year is this?

McDonalds has been giving out superhero action figures since the dawn of man, and this shit happens now?

Hell, I think I still have a cheap Happy Meal Human Torch that's been sitting deep in my garage for over ten fucking years.

As a McDonalds Employee I am positively offended by this statement... Oh who am I kidding. I don't give a care. Employees also can't ask if customers would like a boy or girl toy with the happy meal anymore because its gender discrimination, we have to name the toy instead. I don't like putting people into categories based on gender but it gets to the point where everything is discrimination. Some People are just overly sensitive to everything. That's the case with the happy meal toys. I haven't had a single customer complain about the toys causing violent behavior and if anyone does I'll tell them to put a sock in it and deal with the consequences of my actions later.

This is akin to people bashing on video games.

I read something about how video games are bad and I actually had to sit there and let it sink in. People are still mistrustful of video games? What year is this?

It's just silly, Einstein knew what he was talking about...

Wait, what? Now superheroes are considered inappropriate for children? SUPERHEROES?!

These guys might disagree with the CCFC. I suggest that this group listen to them.
Lol!
HOLY SHIT!!! I HAD FORGOTTEN THE POWER RANGERS!!! WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO ME?!

But yeah, this is total bullshit. I watched The Matrix when I was like 6(didn't understand a damn thing in it either) and I turned out fine.

I realize that these aren't the parents saying this, but parents also like to go on nowadays about how TV and violent movies are ruining their kids.

Hey, here's a tip, try actually being a good parent once in a while, instead of blaming all of your failures on stuff that came out after you were 20. It's not like TV or video-games are literally brainwashing your kids, just spend time with them WHILE THEY'RE PLAYING OR WATCHING AND TALK TO THEM. That's how my parents treated me when I was a kid. They treated me like an adult, and let me learn why I should or shouldn't do something. Now I'm 19, and I can honestly say that I wouldn't have traded my parents for anyone else in the world.

And I don't know why the Hell the CCFC is saying this. Someone needs to check their bank records or something because no-one would say something this ludicrous without being paid in some kind of way.

I believe these people are what you call real life trolls

I get the feeling people are really scared what children see and experience, forgetting that this kind of thing is normal in children and they probably experience something of similar nature in their childhood

I don't understand it personally because you are going to experience this stuff and it's not particularly violent and there are things that are 1000 times worse for a child to experience then action figures and very mild fantasy violence
