That is some gorgeous pieces of art. I'm really digging the Scout.
A little love for the Medic too since I usually play him.

For one, they are all too pretty to be mercenaries getting gibbed on a regular basis.
For two, isn't the point of them all looking drastically different being able to immediately knowing what's barreling down on you? I didn't recognize most of them at first glance, which is a problem.

Because if I'm in a firefight as the other person said, I shouldn't have to look at them for 2 seconds to recognise them.

Based on your first point: I (and many others) feel the criticism is valid. If you do a project on something and remove a large aspect of what made the original special then of course people are going to disapprove.

Take a look at what MB posted.

Didn't Chemical Alia do some awesome female TF2 models?

I'm sure they were much better than these ones.

Now THAT looks awesome. You could definitely see this in TF2, she fits right in. Look back at the other engie. You would never know it was related to TF2 unless we were told.
But those are actual in-game models. These aren't. That's the difference, and that's why it doesn't matter if these images don't follow the distinct-silhouette rule and other specifics of the TF2 visual design. You aren't going to have to quickly identify them in a firefight because they're just pictures.

I can appreciate the person has talent but I don't have to like something regardless of how many times I get quoted to be told that I am wrong for not liking it.
Erm... Okay. I'm not saying you have to like it. I just don't see why it's invalid to approach something with a different visual style, especially when that original visual style was adopted for mainly practical reasons.
>Characters popular due to art style
>Characters drawn with different style

Me: "I don't like this new style, it's nothing like the old one."
"People": APPRECIATE IT

Nope
You literally referred to these images as "pretty crap" and "shitting over" the original versions, and when people question this you get all "It's my opinion, I can do what I want!". I think when you use terms that strong you can expect people to question it. Stop throwing a tantrum because people disagree with you, these boards are for discussions.

While these are nice as a more realistic concept art, to be honest I kinda prefer Chemical Alia's depictions of female TF2 classes. While this may be owing to the realistic depiction the artist went for as opposed to the game's more cartoony aesthetic, one of the problems I have with this is that many of the classes aren't distinct enough from each other. On a first glance, many of these classes appear to blend in with each other (i.e. the sniper and scout for instance). The majority of these classes also seem to share the same body type, as opposed to their more varied male counterparts. And the grittier tone also makes them appear to be more at home in Brink as opposed to the colorful propaganda poster look of TF2.

All these are rather too Fallout-y, although I do like them. The Scout makes my point for me, she looks like a bandit :U

I absolutely love the Medic.
I still wish we could have seen their rendition of FemSpoy (Right behind you...) OHGODNO--
-Ded, not big surprise-

But I easily recognized the Pyro, Scoot (Bonk! or Pistol, choose woman!), and the Snoipah was interesting. It's missing the hat/glasses though.

I enjoyed figuring out which weapons they were using.

The Team Fortress characters are depicted as stupid, mostly psychopathic schmucks you can point and laugh at whenever they get splattered against a wall. These character portraits, while nice, have way too much inherent dignity about them to fit into the game's art direction.

Just like the male characters, they need to be stupid funny. These just look like they belong in a Gears Of War knock-off.

I couldn't figure out which one was which after looking at them three times. They need to have the base weapons for the class.

I don't like them for the fact that they are too gritty and serious, TF2 characters go for a light hearted psychopathic approach and this does not respect the TF2 vibe in any way. In fact it goes so far as to piss on it in all honesty.

looks great for what it is, its really too bad its not in the TF2 style. Would love to see what the female versions of the classes look like.

So he's not allowed to have a different opinion than you? I guess that's right, because forcing yours down his throat is so much better.

OT: I like the art, but in terms of placing them in-game, there are some technical problems. I'd like to see girls that I could see in the game at some point instead of some mockups that are just there to look at. It's kinda hard to say I'm "meeting the female team" if they won't ever look like this in the game.

Soldiergirl is adorable. I'd change my favourite class just to play as her, no lie. My luck, though, she was probably the Spy.

I liked all of them except Heavy. While they all are artistically consistent with each other while still recognizable as to which character they are, female Heavy reminds me too much of a Gears of War character, and I find that distracting.
