Because if I'm in a firefight as the other person said, I shouldn't have to look at them for 2 seconds to recognise them.

Based on your first point: I (and many others) feel the criticism is valid. If you do a project on something and remove a large aspect of what made the original special then of course people are going to disapprove.

Take a look at what MB posted.

Didn't Chemical Alia do some awesome female TF2 models?

I'm sure they were much better than these ones.

Now THAT looks awesome. You could definitely see this in TF2, she fits right in. Look back at the other engie. You would never know it was related to TF2 unless we were told.
But those are actual in-game models. These aren't. That's the difference, and that's why it doesn't matter if these images don't follow the distinct-silhouette rule and other specifics of the TF2 visual design. You aren't going to have to quickly identify them in a firefight because they're just pictures.

I can appreciate the person has talent but I don't have to like something regardless of how many times I get quoted to be told that I am wrong for not liking it.
Erm... Okay. I'm not saying you have to like it. I just don't see why it's invalid to approach something with a different visual style, especially when that original visual style was adopted for mainly practical reasons.
>Characters popular due to art style
>Characters drawn with different style

Me: "I don't like this new style, it's nothing like the old one."
"People": APPRECIATE IT

Nope
You literally referred to these images as "pretty crap" and "shitting over" the original versions, and when people question this you get all "It's my opinion, I can do what I want!". I think when you use terms that strong you can expect people to question it. Stop throwing a tantrum because people disagree with you, these boards are for discussions.
So he's not allowed to have a different opinion than you? I guess that's right, because forcing yours down his throat is so much better.
But I'm not forcing my opinion down anyone's throat... Look, I wasn't even saying that he was forcing his opinion down anyone else's throat either. I'm just questioning his reasoning because I don't get it and wondering why he's getting so defensive about it. Of course he's allowed to have a different opinion than me, if anyone thinks it's crap than they can go ahead but they should be ready for people questioning that opinion.

But hey, if you try having an actual debate about something's artistic merit then this is what you get. Maybe I shouldn't have gone all Inquisition about it, but saying that something is your opinion doesn't help anyone understand anything.

The Soldier is the best by far. Not sure why, but it was the only one that made me smile.
Judging by the 2nd comment and this one, maybe its because the Soldier is by far the prettiest one. 0_0
I think the Engineer and Medic are prettier.

Although the Sniper reminds me of Elastica's lead singer, which is awesome.

I love this are but the outfits are so detailed they hardly seem to fit. Reckon it would be a good idea to have a choice of gender in a game this popular, retaining the approximate proportions of each class to keep them identifiable...

Medic - Cool
Heavy - Meh
Spy - Meh
Scout - Cool
Pyro - Kinda cool
Engie - Meh
Demo - Nope
Soldier - Awesome

Most of these are pretty crap. They're all too "real", TF2 has an awesome extravagant art style and this shits all over it as most of them look normal.

I thought the pyro was the engie at first as they all look pretty damn similar sans weapons.

EDIT Ah, the "spy" was actually a sniper. That proves my point in my eyes.
You have a point. TF2 is quite cartoony with exaggerated physical characteristics for characters (See: heavy).

The problem with applying that formula to female characters is that "female cartoon characters with exaggerated physical features" is just asking for problems.

Bit of a let down frankly, might as well be something completely different for how similar they are. That and they all look the same, sure the drawing is good, but for what they were trying to attempt, it's a failure.

I'm too lazy to look now (stupid argument anyway...), but I thought he did say why he felt that way. That's all I ask when people express their opinions. I just saw you calling him out for throwing a tantrum when like 4 other people quoted him disagreeing with his assessment. I'd be pissed too!

Always nice to see a rule 63 Heavy that's, well, actually 'heavy' and looks like they could actually have a chance of holding the minigun, rather than the mass only being applied to certain feminine features.
Guess I'm not exactly the target audience for those ones though...

Pretty well drawn but kind of the opposite of the silly nature of the original characters. I wouldn't want to mess with the female Heavy though, she looks pretty damn scary.

I like the look of these designs, though I don't agree with all of them. Pyro should still hide her face (she's not a Pyro without a mask!), and Soldier should be older, and less pretty- she's a veteran, after all, if these are indeed simple "genderbent" versions of the male characters.

very nice pics. would be nice to have them in the game. like female classes vs. male classes. but then this might be seen as sexist.
or generally you can select which sex you want to play. that would be awesome. hearing different remarks from the females sides and to add more humor, some kind of flirting like female heavy and male heavy.

Pyro looks cute. Still, valve would never add female characters to TF2 because imagine the outcry when people remember that TF2 characters get blown into little chunk of meat, incinerated, electrocuted, shot full of lead and stabbed. It would be considered sexist either way. Either there are no female characters or they exist and can become equally blown up as the male characters. What they want is for female characters to be in the game but for them to also be invincible to weapons. Animals and women should not be harmed but men can line up for decapitation and nobody will even flinch. No thanks.

I don't think i dig the "edgy" look, let alone rule 63 version of TF2. Good thing he didn't draw a female Saxton Hale.
That would be an awful sight! Ughhh!

Those drawing are really good. I wish I was that good at drawing. Out of all of them I like the female medic the best.
i agree, my favorite was the medic, though the sniper and demoman were close seconds.

while these are good drawings, i can see why people dont like them so much for their differentiation from the classic team fortress 2 art style.

however i disagree as to their accusations of poor quality, as the drawings are top notch, and i personally like it when people re-iamgine things with an alternative art style, so long as it stays true to the original; and most of these did, except for the pyro (no mask, no iconic weapon).

and as for the engineer, i guess i dont like the trading of the hat for a hairstyle i dont care for, particularly not with that color, and i dont like the exposed face so much, as the engineer is most always seen with his goggles on. or..... well... i dont know. just SOMETHING about that head is just.... not right.

yeah, i agree. one of the best genderbent heavies i have seen. i find it particularly annoying when people draw female versions of... well anything, making either their dress, or their breasts, so exaggerated or over-sexualised for no particularly good reason. (and there are few reasons good enough to justify something like that)

just google female tau, and you will see what i mean.

whatever do you mean? is there a problem with females with particularly exaggerated.... uhh, eyes? yeah, cant even really make a joke about that, its unfortunately the curse of the internet.

Edit: Nevermind. I went back and looked at the pictures and now I know what you mean about the Pyro. I think they did that to show what they think the female version of the Pyro would look like underneath the mask.

Giving the Pyro a face? Pfffft. Not loyal to the game at all! XD

I do like the soldier though so I guess I'm with the majority when I say she is the best of the cast. Besides the Spy of course.

yeah, but the point is nobody knows, and its likely nobody ever will know. thats part of the character. when you see the face, its almost like they are a different person, especially when you combine it with a gender bend.

its a bit like how the quarians used to be in mass effect, before they went the indecisive route and showed a picture of a quarian's face, but no in-game model (which i still dont understand, since they may as well show all quarians faces after showing a picture of the one everyone cared about, and there was debate over, but that's a different discussion for a different time)
