Megan Fox Wants to Star in a Live-Action Sailor Moon Movie

The only thing in the transformer movies I hated more than Shia LaBeouf... I'm going with NO for my vote.

Whatever happens keep Micheal Bay away from GUNDAM, I don't think I can watch another franchise I love being bent over a park bench and reamed by that guy. (I've already written off TMNT)

It may be a bit too paranoid of me, but aren't the odds fairly high that she never watched any of these shows, and that it's just an indirect pitch by some producers, hoping to see some reaction to it? I'm pretty sure that happened before.

Yeah, that's a bit paranoid. There isn't really any plausible reason to assume that she hasn't watched those shows. (Producers have better ways to attain that information.)

She is actually at the age (same as me) that she probably did watch them on Toonami when she was a kid, like most of the western audience. I distinctly remember Sailor Moon being huge among the girls with cable in 7-8th grade.

Regardless, from what I've seen of her work, she doesn't have the personality or talent to play a literal door mat.

The sad part about it is that I don't necessarily doubt she really was into that stuff, but she just doesn't seem to understand where she stands in this industry right now. She's already on thin ice just being in TMNT - unless she suddenly undoes the last 5 years of fanboy rage with a stellar and sincere performance and overhauls her image, she's libel to just tank whatever she tries by herself.

Not Sailor Moon, as people have been saying she is just not young enough for a role like that, but I would like to suggest her playing Misa Hayase in a live action Macross remake. That could have potential.

Nope. Don't see hr as a good actress and don't see her as attractive. I can acknowledge other people do, but I don't so the sex appeal isn't even there. personally I think she's poison to movies and I would greatly enjoy her staying away from both sailor moon, gundam (of any variety), and any other anime/japan series, no matter how big of a fan she feels herself as. don't ask why, they're pretty much petty (from the way she's just... basically useless in transformers in the sense of being an actress to the whole she just give the feel of one of those hot girls that finds black hornrims and thinks they're some kinda gamer/nerd girl high queen).

I'm giving into entropy and saying I'm all for letting Megan Fox wipe her ass with Sailor Moon.
For one: So I can hear the pants-fudging squeals of impotent rage from across the internet.

But more importantly, because it's a situation just RIPE with comedic potential.

See, up to this point, I've seen Ms. Anti-Actress in things that she only did to further her career.
I haven't seen her express actual overt interest in her profession until now.

Putting Megan Fox in Transformers was an obvious move; Bay wanted tits-n-ass, he hired tits-n-ass and pointed a camera at it.
But in analogy to giving an actual performance...well, putting Megan Fox in for her acting is like turning a three-legged dog loose in a park. But her requesting a starring role for a Sailor Moon movie is like entering that same dog in a race; a race it wants to be in because it thinks it can win.

Horrible as the premise sounds (and is) it's still a setup for comedy GOLD.
I mean, just imagine her trying to recite the magic words for the Transformation sequence in her patented deadwood method.

I'll be honest, I've never understood why people get so angry with things like remakes and particularly those that make the leap not just from cartoon to live-action but across cultures as well. A loose example: I thought the third Death Note live action film was dreadful but it failed to diminish my love for the original series in any way.

Just because something gets created, such as a live action film version of Sailor Moon starring Megan Fox, it does not mean that a) someone has to watch it or b) it will ruin the existing franchise. Christ, if anything it'll cause a lovely boost to the original series, resulting in increased reshowings, encourage new fans to check out the older stuff and spread the fandom.

This a million times, I don't even understand it is such a big deal to cast a non-white heroic cast? Avatar the last airbender and prince of persia is fresh on my memory.


But let me be clear I don't mind race or gender swapping as long as it doesn't break the theme of the story. An example would be Katniss Everdeen where being dark skinned or light skinned has no bearing on the story or the setting, the same goes for Nick Fury, or Felix from the James Bond franchise or Raes Al Ghul from nolan batman and ect.

The problem comes when it interferes with the setting or characters, like the prince of Persia should at least look middle eastern, it would be just as odd as seeing the entire cast of a Robin Hood movie as black characters for example.

I'll also say I've always thought it might be kind of amusing if someone did an old "10th Kingdom" or "Hook" inspired mini-series or movie with anime girls in the future when they are either adults or over the hill.

It might look something like this very cute commercial that aired for reruns of the show in Hong Kong a few years ago. Aimed at nostalgic adult women who remember the cartoon from their childhood.


I remembered seeing this on the geek culture subsite of the village voice called "Topless Robot" which I would link. But people can and have been fired from their work for browsing the site just because of the dumb name, so I won't.

My problem is, good actress or not, Fox is too old for the role. I'm not sure how many non-fans remember/realize this, but they're supposed to be middle-school students. (Usagi is 14 when the series starts.) That's something PGSM (the Japanese live action show) got right: the actresses were generally the proper age. I suppose she could play one of the villains, but I doubt that's what she was talking about.

...however, there is one exception that could potentially help Fox's career and prove to the world she can act (if she really can): Sailor Pluto.

They kind of went back and forth on it in America.

In the original Dic dub, they tried to make it take place in America: changing the text to hide Japanese characters and/or paint in English letters, swap car/bus scenes so the driver is on the other side, the character's even had English names (last names, too; Ami Mizuno was changed to Amy Anderson... seriously, those along with all the plot and character changes, the original "dub" is pretty much a completely different show). They didn't throw up their hands and just keep it in Japan until Cloverway did their absolute disaster of a dub of the third season a few years later (one episode takes place on the Tokyo Tower).

I don't actually know much about the worldwide dubs.

You make an excellent point about the fine quality of Pretty Girl Sailor Moon. I own the whole thing on DVD - it is incredible and I recommend it to anyone who wants an amazing live action Sailor Moon adaptation.

Funny you bring that up; since this thread's inception, I was thinking that if Whedon were on it, Fox would actually have some good material to work with and BE an actress. (Because it's true: young actors get typecast based on what their known for. Liv Tyler once expressed extreme frustration on how hard it's been for her to find work since LotR because the execs think she's "too ethereal".)

My recommendation of PGSM is much more tentative, since I found the first several episodes PAINFUL, especially the change of the iconic ball episode into a freaking Halloween party! (though seeing the extensive use of minidiscs is kind of funny in hindsight). But it did improve steadily over time and from about the halfway point on (especially as one gets accustomed to the special effects), I actually think it surpasses the original anime as far as writing and character development goes (...though admittedly half of the writing is inevitably and unavoidably lost in translation since Japanese, which I only understand a very little bit of, is such a more subtly dynamic language than English, so translating one to the other is an incredibly difficult feat.)

But, yes, I do know a lot about Sailor Moon (though I haven't participated in the fandom in years since the forum I was part of got hack-attacked). Most of my knowledge of the dub-v-sub comes from the website Sailor Moon Uncensored (NOT A PORN WEBSITE I PROMISE). I highly recommend those fans who might have only seen one variation of SM (or those who might be interested in how anime in general used to be localized) to check that website out.

I think it really depends on the property. I don't think IPs such as Dragonball or Sailor Moon would fit well with a Hollywood version. But others, like Black Lagoon and Cowboy Bebop, could work.

Blegh, if they go for the feel of the American dub of Cowboy Bebop I say no thank you.

Don't let it be touched by anyone and make it live action, we all know what has happened to practically every anime that has ever been made live action and that's it turns from gold into crap

And Megan Fox? Srsly? She's not an actress She's a bloody centerfold that thinks she can act. You'd be better off sticking her in another rendition of "Pirates" (and no that's not Pirates of the Caribean) as she'd fit better in there than any other movie ever made unless it's called "Bad Actresses 2014" or something.

Gundam Wing? Really? No no no nooooooooooooooo! I can barely stand horrid American dubbing of animes, but now there's the idea of turning them into live action? Good grief America leave Japan's stuff alone. You keep making Adventure Time and other things but leave the anime alone...step away!

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that they weren't making enough money off the expensive kits anymore and that's why they decided to aim for the younger audience more heavily with the hope that they could hawk the more profitable stuff in greater volumes. It's understandable but I just wish it wasn't the case.

Look at the bright side, now they have the money to actually make more gundam.
AGE failed hard because of them overestimating the child demographic. Most of kids didn't understand Space War Drama, and when they decided to lighten up the whole thing, it was too late. Also because of that the story became convoluted.

Gundam Build Fighter is what they did right, make the story easier to digest and enjoy, not the dumbing down the drama. Heck, it was even well accepted by young adults as well. In short, GBF was very entertaining and hardly has any faults other than not being your preference.

Thinking about it now, my problem was probably more a compounding of disappointment from Gundam Age (which I actually gave up on after forcing myself through 39 episodes of bipolar tonal shifts and melodrama) plus the significant change in direction.

Even if it had tried to cater directly to my sense of nostalgia I probably would have lambasted it for even the slightest transgression.

If I'm honest, I might have liked it had it not been 'a Gundam series'. Petty, I know.

(I'm pretty sure Gundam aren't made for the live action screen due to how much they have to cramp in the war politics into mere hours film length!!

Have you seen the last couple of Gundam series? They're pretty much glorified toy-ads now.

Yeah but can you honestly say they can make a good live action Gundam movie since they still have to cramp in 25- 50ish episodes into 1.30 to 3 hours film which it's pretty much having the zero kid/ teen to becoming a hero at the end of it unless they made it into a triliogy?

No I don't think they can make a good film. My (rather flippant) point was that they wouldn't care to.

I imagine any such film would be Gundam in name only, with the recognisable face stitched onto Bay-Optimus and piloted by Tom Cruise... as Tom Cruise, the second coming of Jesus.

For a live action movie of Sailor Moon to succeed it would have to be more like Devil Hunter Yoko (Yohko? whatever). Why? It's less 'Japanese' for lack of a better term; more stabby stabby than almost-strippers doing a song and dance.

The problem with Gundam Wing was that it was... kinda boring; a Heero (hurr, hurr) is only as good as his villains, and as such a live action Gundam Wing would be about as good as the Catwoman movie. That's not to say Trieze and Zechs weren't compelling, it's just that they weren't chewing the goddamned scenery at any point, and anyone who was... Well, they generally got killed to death in short order by either of them as often as by one of The Boys. Say what you will about SEED, but it would make a better live adaptation if you trimmed the fat.

Oh, I almost forgot the obligatory Megan Fox hate. I am generally disinterested Megan Fox. There you go. That's apathy, which is worse than hate for anyone in the entertainment industry.

What about G Gundam? I haven't really seen the others, but I remember watching that one and enjoying it. Don't really get the hate for it, though.

I imagine the hate is mostly because it was a super robot show in a real robot franchise. It's like if someone whipped out a lightsaber and Force Choked some Klingons or Dominion during a boarding scene on Star Trek DS9.
