"The reaction, I think, is complete when the product is on the shelf and it has a price and it has a content library and consumers vote," Spencer added, "and that's the date I'm looking forward to."

So first it was "don't react to Adam Orth's statement, let's wait and judge it at the reveal"
Then it was "don't react to reveal, wait till E3"
Now it's "wait till the product is on the shelf"
Then it'll be "wait till you bought it yourself and have played it"
Then it'll be "SUCKERS!!! YOU ACTUALLY BOUGHT ONE??"

And X-box unveils that it's new content is...
YOU CAN BUY MUSIC THAT CAN ONLY BE PLAYED ON THE X-BOX ONE(and you pay a fee every time or something)
THE X-BOX ONE WILL SYNC WITH YOUR WINDOWS PC AND SHARE ALL YOUR PORN WITH YOUR X-BOX LIVE FRIENDS (unless you pay it not to)
THE X-BOX ONE HAS THE FUNCTIONALITY TO KICK YOU IN THE DICK (and takes your wallet because seriously, they're gonna need the money)

OT: No, they aren't going to 180 fans, even if they are SOMEHOW still making headway with this.

Wasn't this the same guy who was VP of Sony when they had their disastrous ps3 launch?
Wasn't this the guy trying to convince people that the ps3 was going to replace the pc in the home?

At this point, I'm not sure what else Microsoft can do but defend the hole it's dug for itself. Going back on certain things now would not only be yet another PR disaster, and probably not help, but ruin whatever software coding they've spent years developing.

I'm not saying it's wrong or screwed up or very, very anti-consumer, as well as cocky, but I honestly do not see Microsoft doing anything but this. Bull-headed opinions don't get you very far and they certainly have one.

I still wish people would quit framing this as a choice between Sony and Microsoft (or maybe Nintendo). I'm sitting out this new console generation entirely, and with everything getting closer and closer to PC architecture anyway, I don't expect to be missing that many games.

It's almost tragic to see Microsoft desperately trying to defend themselves while in the very same article the writer uses "Xbone". I still chuckle every time I see it :)

No, that was Phil Harrison, who then went on to work for Atari. And he atleast came clean later on on the whole "sixaxis is true next gen" bullshit, once the rumble lawsuit was settled.

OT: I hate to sound like some macho, but the one claiming "it's not a race" is typically the loser.

This isn't a matter of 'the tortoise and the hare' so much as 'the tortoise, the other tortoise and the rock that costs $100 more, requires an internet connection and is rolling downhill in the wrong direction'.

Nnnnno. Unless the 'unannounced content' he's referring to is an attachment that dispenses free steak and money, I don't care. I'll just stick with the 360, thanks.

Geeze. I saw the title of this and thought Microsoft might be planning to loosen their restrictions. Check-ins once every month or 2 weeks would be manageable. But no, they're pulling out another carrot on a stick, except the carrot is covered in a bag so we don't know what it is and have no reason to follow it

He probably isn't. It was marketed as a CoD and Battlefield machine. So take a guess who exactly it was that ordered all those XBox Ones. That's right, it's foulmouthed li'l Timmy's mum from two doors down.
I knew the Xbone was marketed to that particualr kind of fratboy who does nothing at all and is yet somehow incredibly rich, but I didn't expect there to be so many of them.
I second that. The 'Murican fratboy population alone, isn't enough to support a console. Even then, assuming some of these fratboys dorm, their colleges might not even allow consoles on the network (mine does but it takes a while to get permission so most people don't do it).

Honestly, you reap what you sew. You buy this shitty console then they'll have to eat shit eventually because of the console's restrictions

"Yo dude I brought call of duty to play!"

Nope. Nah. No. Nein. Nee. Non.

You had ONE chance. ONE CHANCE. You blew it up with all the TV. You went "Oh we're gonna blow you at E3". Now you're "Naww, that was just some fooling around, we're really going to shred your head now." you wasted your chance. No more. BS. BS. BEEEE ESSSSS.
Lies. Lies from the bottom of your arse.

How about this golden nugget of wisdom from Don Mattrick

"I think the critical thing that people should get their head around is your social and gaming identity, and the content that is associated with your identity, and where your identity roams your content roams with you. It's how you expect so much of your content to run today."

http://www.destructoid.com/ms-on-xbox-one-we-have-built-a-natively-connected-device-255988.phtml

First of all, once again we're getting the "deal with it" approach from MS (people should get their head around). This is bizarro world PR. Companies, successful ones at least, are the ones that wrap their heads around what the customer wants, and even anticipates it (Apple). What MS is doing is trying to convince us that it's OUR responsibility to get what they are doing. This reminds me of his backwards compatibility comments. The problem is not the XB1, it's you the customer that is the problem.

Secondly, he's making a very desperate, and frankly insulting, attempt to make it look like that we ASKED for the online restrictions of XB1. "It's how you expect so much of your content to run today." In other words, "don't like what the XB1 does? Too bad, it's YOUR FAULT."

MS needs to stop attacking and blaming their customers for their bad decisions. They need to stop putting their head in the sand and ignoring the glaring problems with their console. They need to start COMPETING with Sony or they are going to be done.

(Full disclosure, I was a huge PS fan in both its first and second iterations, but totally skipped PS3 in favour of the 360 because of Sony's arrogance at the time and overpriced console.)

I'm really happy about being able to play Elder Scrolls too! <a href=http://bethsoft.com/en-gb/news/the-elder-scrolls-online-coming-to-playstation-4-xbox-one>And I'll be doing it on my shiny new PS4.
My housemate, who has been a staunch X-Box player for years, told me last night that he'll be getting a PS4 for ESO.

While I'm not happy with Sony as a company, I suppose I could tolerate having a PS4 in the house over having an XB1.

But personally, I've already started pricing PC upgrades (and jackboot polish). :p
I've mentioned this in another thread already, but for the last few weeks myself and my XBL buddies have been weighing up the pros and cons of both systems. Long story short: the 22 vote pot came out at PS4 19 / X1 3.

I've recently toyed with the idea of upgrading my PC rig, but the fact that most of my friends have consoles combined with the spiraling price of running a staff car means I'll probably stick with consoles.

So they had the reveal conference, and then E3, but still have unannounced features for the XBone. Did they not think that perhaps they ought to announce all of the features before telling us how much it will cost?

Customer: "Ooooh, the new Xbox, what can it do?"
MS: "Well it forces you to connect to the net at least 24 hours to use what you paid for, we will not allow you to trade games except for at specific retailers and Kinect always has to be on when the console is."
Customer: "Well those features kind of suck."
MS: "It will cost $499."
Customer: "Yes, but you haven't said anything that makes me want to buy it."
MS: "Oh don't worry, we still have more features, we just aren't going to tell you them yet."

Genius logic MS. You truly are idiots.

Microsoft really shouldn't be worried. Look at the facts here, Xbox Ones are selling out preorders all over the place already just because it's the "new" one. Now, how many of those are just going onto ebay is unknown, but it's happening. The problem is yes, the internet hates the console (and I do too), but how many of those that preordered are uninformed? How many of those preorders are people who want it for the new Halo and call of duty and don't know about the restrictions yet? That's the problem. The negativity happens now, but wait until the uninformed masses bring it home and see that they have to register and install their games, be forced to use the kinect, and then finally after jumping through the hoops to play their games. Also, I know plenty of people who still use a standard def tv for gaming. What happens if some uninformed joe shmo brings home the console to see that they can't use it at all? Microsoft is seeing the negativity now, but we don't know if that'll continue into launch yet. And here's the kicker..... because it's selling out already, until launch when it's too late, microsoft is just going to continue to tell us to "deal with it" because it's making the money it wants. I really can't wait until the console war truly begins, and that happens this holiday season. All the people who say that the xbox has lost really don't understand how many people are just buying the thing with no prior info. Just wait a few months. I for one want to see an angry mob of xbone day one buyers, and then see what microsoft has to say.

Well, at least Microsoft was finally able to find someone who could speak to the public without sounding like an out of touch douche bag.

To be honest, I will make my final judgement on the XBone when it is out and I can see everything for myself. I get the feeling that the negativity was spawned by Microsoft not communicating their new features very well and it will all be less dire than anticipated.

It makes no difference... sheep will flock and buy the machine no matter what MS does, and MS knows this so thats why they really dont care.

MS could promise buyers that MS employees will come and personally take a dump in the consumers bed if they pre-order this thing, and the consumers will not only pre-order it... the silly buggers will buy the Xbox One theme bed clothes to replace the ones that are about to get shat on.
