wait... wha? they are going to believe that all of us are "willing to be their bitches" to be slapped around? Because they show cased bunch of games at the conference? like we are some retarded kid they can deal with just by giving us some sugar bar, and we forgot all about our broken teeth that they knocked out few days ago? To talk like that, having such Ego, thinking that we (the consumers) are stupid, and easy to distract; as if we are some A.D.D. kids where up on distraction, we becoming too focus on the distraction, that we forget all about the main problem? this is insulting.... I hope ANYONE who hears this are wise enough to make better vote than just focus on the exclusives....

It feels to me like Microsoft is going through the five stages of grief. They've just decided to combine the Denial and Bargaining phases into one.

"Yeah, don't worry boys, we've still got the Dumb Fratboy crowd. They'll buy literally anything we throw at them."

Isn't this what Sony said when people pointed out the insanity of the $600 price tag of the PS3?

In the US market at least (seems like the only one MS cares about), I wouldn't be surprised is xbox1 do similar level of sales as PS4. There is a reason that they marketed the device as a 'media' device rather than a gaming console, so I expect people who don't care about games to buy it for their house living room.

They way I see it, there are definitely large amount of people who will get xbox1:

1. MS Die hard fans, they can't live w/o the new installment of Halo
2. Middle aged folks with family (rich enough to absorb the +100 price tag), they want a entertainment center for the living room and chose xbox1 for that purpose
3. Tech obsessed people (me included) who think the the kinetic is the most wonderful thing ever and have to have one
4. Grand parents (or generally people unfamiliar with gaming culture) buying Christmas presents. They just picks a choice at random. The can convinced to shell out extra $100 for some cool gadgets if the sales person at the store is good.

Don't underestimate these groups, they are strong in numbers and WILL prop Xbox sales number in the US.

The fact that they think the biggest issue is the price difference shows how little they know. All they care about is money and they just proved it by missing the actual point and focusing on the money instead.

1) Halo is dead since Bungie no longer makes it. Bungie is making Destiny, which wil be on PS4. To want something new from the Halo creators means that you aren't tethered to the Xbone.

2) Middle aged folks with families don't necessarily but gaming consoles for themselves. They buy it for their kids, based on their kids screaming "mommy, daddy, I want XXXXXX". This year based on what the kids see it might just be the PS4 that they want.

3) The Kinect is only an advancement over the PS2's EYETOY (remember that 2 gen ago?). There is also a PC version releasing that will be cracked, emulated, and run free of Microsoft's Xbone DRM console. It's not advanced tech at all, just motion sensory units (something that's been around for decades.

4)You're wrong if you think Grandparents are going to pick the MORE EXPENSIVE one. See, they'll pick the cheapest one...this isn't 10 years ago and the economy has crashed once already around 4 years ago, still not have recovered. To assume that people don't care about the extra $100 is just ignorant.

OT: No, they aren't going to 180 fans, even if they are SOMEHOW still making headway with this.
Shhh, don't say stuff like that! You'll give Microsoft ideas.

I'm not surprised that some stores might be out of pre-orders for the Xbone, simply because the dedicated fanbase that can see no wrong in Microsoft will still flock to it, desperate for another bone of Halo and thinking it's the only console that plays CoD or Battlefield. However, that won't bring in anyone else. It won't sell as well as the 360, and I won't be surprised if it only just breaks over what the original Xbox sold.

But more on topic, at this rate, they would have been better off just keeping the whole console under wraps until about a month until goes on the market, simply so they could get those last little additions that they'll need to add to make it seem worth getting over a PS4. Granted, it will require a lot now, as any gamer that doesn't care as much about the exclusives, and more about just playing the multi-platform next gen games, will side with the PS4 for it simply being, on its own, the better console.

I have owned every single game system released in the US (until the latest gen of hand helds/wii U...due to having an Ipad now heh). Even rare ones like the Atari Jaguar....I owned. I still have my original atari, nintendo, sega master system etc as well (they have not been powered up in years though.

I did give away my original Xbox though (it was big and bulky and my 360 plays the games anyway), but I still have my 360 set up and ready to play (even if I mainly play indie games on it now).

For the first time EVER, I do not plan on purchasing a new gaming system. I have the money to do so, and it would only take a few good games to really change my mind (exclusives though). Those games would need to be in my genres though (RPG primarily, adventure/platforming etc secondary). Xbone may eventually release enough of them to change my mind (although I have such a backlog of games at this point....it might be much harder now).

I understand FPS fans may still want an xbox one. It's always been a system geared mainly for that genre (at least seemed like it to me). There are alot of FPS fans as well, so they may sell a decent number of them.

But.....other then that I don't see why anyone would bother at this point. The whole kinect thing is stupid. Have they changed it so you don't need as much room in front of your system now? How many of us have 20 feet or whatever the req is in front of our systems to actually use one of those things? On top of that the specs on the Ps4 are better...so you would have to guess it would play many games better, and the system is cheaper (not to mention the playstation systems have usually had way more RPGs for me then xbox).

It's not a race for me this time. It really never was because honestly I'll buy em both if they give me a reason to. The main point is that microsoft is not giving me ANY reason to buy their new system. I'd rather spend the money upgrading my PC so it's more future proof. It seems like unless you fit in a very specific demographic, microsoft is not offering you any incentive to buy their system...while charging more then it's competition.....and offering less.

Crazy, crazy marketing.

Does Microsoft define "content" the same way it defines "features"?

If so, I look forward to the boxes of spring-loaded razor blades.

"Oh don't worry. We may be making every single stupid fucking mistake we could possibly make, be releasing a console a majority of gamers won't even be able to fucking use since powerful broadband connections aren't that common yet, and be holding our own products hostage, and then charge $100 more than the PS4, but there will be a press release that will excuse all of this!"

Microsoft, for the love of Jah, kill your CEO, remove the Kinect and online requirements and reduce your price before someone commits you to an asylum. The Xbone seriously looks like someone slashing their wrists in a desperate plea for attention.

That or Microsoft is trying to kill console gaming early since they have an enormous advantage in the PC gaming market.

"We always knew that our story would play out over time. And even now, I would say, this isn't a sprint," Spencer said. "The platform launches this November; we've got more content to share."
Always the promise of a brighter tomorrow. That's quite the strategy. You neglected to provide any concrete answers at THE BIGGEST ENTERTAINMENT EVENT of 2013!

No, no, I get it. If I had a superior solution to Sony, I would hand out the information a teeny tiny bit at a time in short interviews and via Major Nelson's Blog. That's a far better idea than saying it onstage while it's being broadcast over the internet.

He probably isn't. It was marketed as a CoD and Battlefield machine. So take a guess who exactly it was that ordered all those XBox Ones. That's right, it's foulmouthed li'l Timmy's mum from two doors down.
I knew the Xbone was marketed to that particualr kind of fratboy who does nothing at all and is yet somehow incredibly rich, but I didn't expect there to be so many of them.
Please allow me to shred this stereotype you seem to be trying to pidgeonhole me into... I am a father of two with a job. Nothing more, nothing less. Also, I have played very little CoD, and have never touched Battlefield. I favor RPGs, with Mass Effect being my absolute favorite game trilogy of all time, and the Elder Scrolls titles being a close second. I am quite happy with my purchase, and I am completely bonkers about playing Elder Scrolls Online next spring.

Sure, I also feel like Microsoft didnt handle things the way they should have, but they are not going to stop bringing the games, and I really do not think the used games part is nearly as bad as people are making it out to be. Their conference Monday was the best they have done in YEARS. (The last few years have been terrible, so no, they didnt have to reach far, but still...)

I play on the Xbox. I love games. I will continue to have that need fulfilled on the Xbox One. Thats the most important thing to me. Tell you what, let me return the treatment back to you folks... Sony had a great conference too!! You guys look like you will be busy playing a bunch of awesome games, too!! Cheers to you! Oh, wait, sorry.... I came off sounding pleasant. Geez... I couldnt even get that stereotype right. /sigh

Hate all you want, I am not going to hear it in the land of Tamriel. :)

With all the other comments from Microsoft Execs recently, I cringe when I read a title like that. They really can't afford to be so blasé about any negativity at any stage, and there's a volcano of rage erupting right in their faces.

Then again, I've got mine pre-ordered, so what do I know?
Blasé? By some fairly credible reports they do in fact have an army of badly paid interns out trolling the interweb s declaring their undying love for this console. How quickly the and all their friends pre ordered, and spamming dislikes at any posting or story that may be viewed as negative.
Yes and thankfully their posts are very transparent. Only way Gamestop xbox one pre-orders were filled is if they had a list of less than 10 people.

All you have to do it look at their post history, 9 times out of 10 it shows exactly what they do.

I'm afraid that this'll turn into another boycott Activision fiasco.

That being said, it just seems like Microsoft are going down the PS3's path the shitty way:
PS3 was super expensive, but it had its advantages, primarily full backwards compatibility (PS1 and PS2 that is), HDMI support, etc. In general, it was a pretty great console that just ended up getting the short end of the bargain because it gave us what we wanted but not in the WAY that we wanted.

XBone is simply choosing to give us what we don't want in the way that we don't want it. You don't want ridiculous DRM, an always on camera and extra features on a console meant for gaming? Here they all are in a conveniently over-priced package. It's clear they don't want us as consumers then, but who DO they want? Even ignorant people will realize day one that they are jumping through uncomfortable hoops for the one thing we want to be easiest for us (entertainment) and retaliate. And the way those people retaliate is by bad word-of-mouth. Even if it's a simple "mine doesn't work anymore after one day" because he failed to connect, but doesn't know it, it'll get a bad rap as faulty hardware.

I'm really sad to see this happening to MS, who I admired back in the day for actually enabling all the stuff that they are now restricting. Hopefully some change, such as a change in CEO or bigger, will turn them back from the abyss they are digging.

1) Halo is just an lazy example I made up. I meant to say that a sizable portion (maybe 20-30%) of the xbox user (for whatever reason) will like stick with MS no matter what Sony has.

2) That depends on people. I think non gamers could be convince to buy xbox1 if MS goes on a media blitz. After a intense ad campaign about how this new box is TiVo+BluRay+gaming console put together, there will be new converts.

3) What you say is true. But going back to my second point, people who don't know gaming well enough won't know the difference.

4) Yea, what you say makes sense. But depending on what sort of bundle comes with Xbox1, some people may decide there are values in the bundle purchase.

In any case, my main point is to point out that MS could potentially expand the consumer base to people who never owned a gaming console. Then all the detailed tech stuff, game lineups and DRM issues will become secondary to how well MS can market. People who don't come to this site, or other gaming site can be easily lead to think xbox1 is a awesome futuristic device and all the cool people must have one.

Those people can readily make up for the 360 users who get pissed off at MS.

(And also this only applies to US market, xbox1 outside the US is pretty much dead on arrival)

I've mentioned this in another thread already, but for the last few weeks myself and my XBL buddies have been weighing up the pros and cons of both systems. Long story short: the 22 vote pot came out at PS4 19 / X1 3.

I've recently toyed with the idea of upgrading my PC rig, but the fact that most of my friends have consoles combined with the spiraling price of running a staff car means I'll probably stick with consoles.
Twenty-two polled isn't quite enough for a statistically significant sampling, but the difference is already apparent! People have been saying for weeks (ever since the XB1 reveal) that they were going to buy a PS4 because "MS sucks". I don't really understand the reasoning behind blindly choosing a competitor's product. But now that I have more information, I am leaning PS4. I still don't have high hopes of Sony changing their stance on consumer rights though.

And have you checked some of the new Volkswagens? Financing is very reasonable and they get excellent gas mileage! :)
I think thankfully for Microsoft myself and the people on my friends-list aren't their target audience. I'd been wanting to try and defend the Nextbox, but as more and more rumours came out without a single denial by Microsoft I found myself edging towards Sony. Then E3 happened at that sealed the deal for myself and a large portion of the people I know. Don't get me wrong, I'm still a little worried that should my PSN account be hacked and my creditcard details stolen, Sony might decide to wait a few months before informing me, but at least they seem willing to learn from their mistakes, unlike a certain other console manufacturer I could name.

Pfft! Microsoft, you've reached the point where it doesn't matter if you release the greatest game ever made. No one wants your shitty system when you have such a dire business plan. Never before have I seen a product that works so hard to physically turn consumers away.

No ones going to buy your gold dust when they first have to sprinkle it on a turd.

Considering that both the Xbox and Xbox 360 owe a significant amount of their success to fortuitous timing (launched in-between Dreamcast dying and Gamecube launching for Xbox and launching slightly before the PS3 for 360). It seems strange that an MS exec would now say that it doesn't matter.
