Too all the people who say that this game rips off Minecraft, Minecraft was heavily based off a previously existing game called infiniminer. You can only really say on game rips off another if it appears to be nothing more than a reskinned version of it's predecessor, so to say a game that removes an entire dimension and adds a bunch of other features is a "rip-off" is a bit of a leap.
Notch took the ideas from Infiniminer and made a more improved version.

This game is just trying to cash in. I can guarantee that if the creator of this game had played Minecraft, but Minecraft wasn't a giant money printer, this game would not exist.

Looks okay, not quite Minecraft good but it may be fun to play. I'll check it out once it's actually out there.

If I can manage to put up with Minecrafts graphics then this game will be no problem but I'm doubting it's gonna be as creepy since the caverns don't appear to be dark at all.
Watch the LP's. They give you a better idea of what the game is like, progression, etc. The caverns are pitch black fyi.

Honestly I'm kinda confused by the comments in this thread. It looks boring, and it's a minecraft ripoff? Looks a hell of a lot more action packed than minecraft to me. How does that translate to boring? I see more enemies, weapons, locations, and action than minecraft has with all the building potential (although in 2D). Does 2D really turn everyone off that much? I think it looks great. Albeit the animations look rough, but it's also in alpha.

More intense combat is something I've always wanted in minecraft. The damn mode is called survival, yet, a mud hut is all you need to survive. If all you want to do is build, why didn't you just keep playing minecraft classic or play peaceful? I barely see a reason for playing off peaceful anymore. The mobs are more annoying than any real threat, even on hard. I can only make so many castles/towns/train stations before my brain starts to melt.
Watch Yahtzee's review of Minecraft. It's no fun building a giant c*** with unlimited recources. You gotta earn it. Play on hard, go out and try to find whatever you can to build your massive c***, and when it's done it'll feel very satisfying..

why does everybody enjoy heterosexual relations with Minecraft? (there, better worded)

It looks pretty cool and I bet it eliminates at least some of the confusion that comes with huge caves, but I didn't see much building involved, and, well, that's ninety percent of the patented "Minecraft Experience"
She may not be pretty in the face but she's got a great body and really knows how to please you... There, well explained. :D

wait minecraft in 2D? so it's dwarf fortress?
Yeah, only minus being totally awesome (in a fucked up kind of way). Dwarf Fortress is the next best shit.

God, 3D/2D sprite version of dwarf fortress. PLEASE, I can't tell what the hell is going on in DF. It sounds cool, and I like 2D games, but even I have limits.

FFS Notch said this game isn't like minecraft, so if that is your only excuse find a new one since the "MAKER" of minecraft doesn't think it is a clone at all and finds the game interesting

That is far more focused on fighting and exploration than Minecraft. Even if it is an attempt at a 2D Minecraft clone, it is the least shameless one I've seen with the most added ideas.

I think I'll check it out if it's free.

But this game is still completely different, it merely shares the the large exploration mechanic, which is nothing new. This kind of thing happens all the time in the game industry, it's how genres are formed. You don't see people complaining about how wolfenstein 3d was ripped off whenever a new shooter comes out, do you? Besides, when you take into account the long dev times for games, this game was probably in production way before Minecraft became huge.

I have, don't know how it applies to what I said. I'm saying I already feel like I've accomplished everything I have the patience and attention span for in MC because I've done that. It's just becoming tedious at this point. I dunno, the novelty of a pure sandbox is starting to wear on me. DF at least sounds like it'll eventually defeat you.

Nah DF is Ansi based, it's not 2d at all (more like 1d and an # along with a f, s q and t!).

DF though is a good game but minecraft is way different and far more enjoyable to me. I did eventually get bored with minecraft but not until many, many hours were spent mining, exploring and building.

This new game might include more combat into the mix. Even if Minecraft just switched things up a bit so we had more challenge and skill involved in the battle system that would help alot. Have random spawn points that have unique items you can only get by defeating the spawn point and looting the chest for instance. Change the combat system a bit to allow for higher potential. Add the ability to increase max hearts over time (perhaps by crafting something, or from finding and defeating spawn points and getting items from the chest).

All of that would add alot more fun into minecraft for me. I enjoy building and creating. I have towering lave fortresses, huge glass traveling systems etc that I have all created in survival mode (and never in peaceful), but eventually the challenge is gone and it all boils down to creating right now.

I would like the challenge of survival mode to be increased and expanded on. It's a blast when you first start playing.....fun for many, many hours after that, but eventually it gets a bit old and you only have the creation aspects of the game left. I'm hoping that is going to change before the game is finally released and new content is slowed down.

Well of course that's all subjective.

No graphics for Dwarf Fortress please. This is a game where I have to figure out the controls for spitting out someone's nose after a fight. I'd rather not see that rendered.

(Unless you're talking about tilesets. There's plenty of sprites for DF you can go and download already)

eh

It looks better than Fortress Craft (which has a population of...YOU and you alone) but Minecraft is the one I prefer.

So you ask for opinions of this game, and whenever anyone says something negative you feel the need to argue how good/different/innovative it is.

This screams veiled plug.

This post, is basically exactly how I feel. I think this game looks like it'll fill a gap without eliminating the building and creation aspect. It'll just be building and mining with a purpose. Could be fun I think.
