To me, it was fun for a while, but it got boring pretty fast. Multiplayer had me playing for a few more days, but still - meh.

You can't judge the game on the singleplayer mode only. The game is SO MUCH MORE FUN when played online with friends. Me and 10 friends of mine have invested in a Server (It's surpisingly cheap: 6$ for 3 months per person, given that you are 8 or more)

It's So much fun when you gather resources, and then put em to use in MASSIVE constructions! Combine that with Skype, and you have yourself a load of fun! We have only had our server for a month now, and we have build massive constructions, and we're not even close to being done with our planned projects.

Remember, you have to have a relatively big project to work on, or else you just die a little, and you gradually lose interest. But making a server, and having construction goals Really helps.

Ohh, and out theme on our server is "FAP" (As in mastubation... Yeah, we're that mature!) (Almost all our constructions have the word fap in it, ie. "The flying boat of FAP", "The council of FAP" (Where we make decisions), "Greek temple of FAP", Pyramid of FAP", "Dome world of FAP" etc.)

I love it, and it is, as Zero Punctuation put it, a creativity toy with monsters. I'm currently building a castle around my tower which leads to my glass sky-fortress. I'm working on an external water elevator, and I plan to install a lava moat in the future.

After that I'm going to make a volcanic Island by building a floating platform over the ocean, then pouring lava down it. When the lava hits the water, it will turn to stone. I can also use that method to pour water down the sides of my fortress wall, then pour lava on the water to add width.

Then after that I'm going to dig a giant iron mine, then use the iron to build railroad tracks, and make a transcontinental railway system so I can more easily move materials from my various quarries and mines to my construction sites.

Really, it come down to if you like making things just for fun, if you do, it's the perfect tool for satisfying your creative urges, if not, then it's just a gigantic wast of time.

Really though, Zero Punctuation did the best review of it, you should look it up.

The appeal of Minecraft is it's simplicity yet within that the opotunity for vast creativity.
I've never played a game before where you can decide to one minute dig a massive hole and look for diamonds then the next decide to make a tower with a moat and bridge.

The recorce management aspect is quite cool as well and add a second level of challenge. Without hacking, if you want to make 400 glass blocks you need to mine enough coal to make the glass and dig enough sand to be made into the glass.

I was really looking forward to playing minecraft after I first learnt about it. I only just got the game recently because I was worried that it would take up too much of my time while I it was still term time at Uni.

It's really cool the discovery aspect of it as well. The other day I went exploring only to find a massive set of undercut cliffs that made me go 'wow'. You wouldn't think that 1 metre squared blocks could make something so impressive but it does. That's a cool aspect of it too, it's imersive.

And I think minecraft does have a basic story, almost everyone spawns near a coastline so I like to think that minecraft is the tale of what you'd do if you got washed up on a deserted island.

It got boring quite quickly for me on singleplayer, but playing on multiplayer with my friends is great fun. If you are good at making fun on your own then get it. If you have friends you play it or who are interested in it definately get it.

Yes, yes, so very much yes.

I admit, it took a few weeks, and a lot of wiki reading to figure it out, a tutorial would have helped immensely. But the sense of accomplishment I got when the mountain was finally removed and the giant floating castle with lava cascading out of the towers was complete was invigorating. Although the idea to cover the base with wool blocks to make it look like it was floating on clouds did not go well with the lava, giant freakin inferno.

The planning, and preparing and building of my projects is so much fun, even if they don't always work out as planned. I'm planning a giant underwater glass lair, but I need to deal with the minor, but frequent, drowning issue before it gets further.

Hm it sounds kind of interesting and I could be creative but I wouldn't feel any sense of accomplishment if there was nothing to complete and the game is never ending. A lack of story doesnt sound too intriguing either.
This will nag you even if you get it and enjoy it. Eventually, when building things with legos gets boring - and I don't care how creative you are, it will. That's when Notch blabbering about "before the game is done he is wanting to add a quest system". Now, I am hearing people say Notch commented the game is what it is going to be pretty much at this point. If story matters, this will nag at you.

It will irritate me if FortressCraft turns out to be the one I was wanting. Minecrafts mobs can get pretty dull pretty fast. And there is nothing else there to spice it up. Scavenging resources is about as fun as looking for that piece you need in a huge bucket of LEGOs.

Meh. It's cool to build a giant fortress made of bricks and diamond blocks, but after that it just gets boring. Online seems to be fun though, but I've never played it.

It's fun shit, I fire it up about once a week for an hour or so. A work in progress for sure. The cool thing is almost every update theres something new that you can play with, for instance the new wolves you can gather, good to have a gang of beasts guarding your back!

I still fail to see the point of this game. Yeah, you get to create your own world, but there have been level editors for games for about as long as I can remember, so the creation part ain't that new. The exploration doesn't really lead to anything so why bother. In all honesty, the entire game never leads to anything, which is probably why I can't really get it

Its hard to tell, but for ?15 its worth trying because you might be like me (and the many other people) and find it awesome.

I play on a server with a few mates and the whole building a world we can all visit and have joint constructions is amazing in a way no other game is. I can imagine I might have got bored on just single player, but if you give yourself a project it gives you a sense of purpose and satisfaction that I love.

I've grown indifferent to it. Yeah it was fun for a while, but a little after playing I just lost interest. Haven't really played since the Alpha and don't care enough to start it back up. If Notch finally adds some form of in-game tutorial I'll probably give it another shot. I hate having to keep the Wiki open to know what the hell I'm doing.

As for what it is, its basically a sandbox game in its purest form.
This.
Its fun if you can keep thinking of things to do, or create projects for yourself, or just run around like an OCD cat with a fetish for shiney things...

But if you are not creative, or don't like sandbox games, you probably won't like Minecraft.

It has no purpose and other games do what it does a million times better.
Games such as...?

If you want to make things, make shit in 3DS Max and import it into Morrowind. Infinitely better game and infinitely more construction options.
Yes, because everybody knows how to use 3DS Max. It's just so much simpler than Minecraft.

You don't like Minecraft? There's nothing wrong with that. Just dislike it with logical reasons.
