The misconception that all americans have less IQ than a used yoghurt and that all british people are incredibly upper class and only drink tea and eat scones.
I know! I'm American and I love tea and scones!

The misconception that I hate the most is that science and religion have to be at odds. For most people, it's either one or the other. To me, it just makes sense that they would work together, rather than trying to disprove each other.

That independence from the British Empire was a good thing

that furries are all about sex.... FURRY ISN'T A F***ING FETISH PEOPLE! like anything out there, there's sex connected to it yes... but it's not like that's all it's about! it's a lot more than that... any time someone asks me about sex in the fandom i reply with what Uncle Kage says "Okay fine you caught us... Furries are the only people to have sex"

and no... we don't have sex with dogs either... we're normal people who identify with animals... what? do you believe EVERYTHING CSI tells you?

That .9999...forever is less than 1. When they are in fact equal.

And any over statement of the actual known facts that is made to try and to undermine stupid people, that don't need to be undermine to show how stupid they are in the first place.

Thomas Edison was the greatest inventor ever and he invented the lightbulb.

No, he just stole all his ideas from tesla and hardly invented anything. He was generally an asshole.
Actually, it's worse than that. Tesla later patented a better design for a light bulb, after Edison stole his design, which is the model of incandescent light bulb we actually use (though the filament changed). Not to mention the light bulb existed 80 years before Thomas Edison made one... that's kind of like saying Galileo invented the Telescope.

Mine has to be the 'humans only use 10% of their brain.'
It's said that little idea came from older methods of monitoring the brain finding that about 10% of the transistors in your brain were on at a time (new methods of looking at the brain shows its often more than 10%, but let's ignore that for now). However, that doesn't mean only 10% of the brain was being used, an off transistor has as much meaning as an on transistor, and your brain is a very efficient computer that tries to hold onto all this memory and architecture using as little energy as possible. Good thing too, otherwise we always have a fever. Even in a few decades when computer transistors exceed our brains, its very unlikely they'll run as cool processing the same amount of data. Less is more.

And some how misconceptions can be thought of as opinions.

Yep and some people hold biblical evidence or personal experience higher than scientific evidence and weigh it more in their decisions. While in this age it is true most hold empirical evidence as the truth, its not universal. The value of evidence depends on the person. While to you and me it may be more truthful or factual, to others it's not. It's not necessarily closer to the concept of universal "truth" or "fact" than any other type of evidence.
If people hold another kind of evidence above empirical ones then they are definitely wrong.

Empirical evidence is, by definition, the most solid and factual kind of evidence that can quite literally not be wrong.

There is no evidence stronger than that. If people still hold other kinds above that, then yeah. They are wrong.
We'll have to agree to disagree on this, but just think about this: Somewhere, someone (not me) is just as adamant about this subject with a view that is contradictory to yours, and thinks their logic is just as infallible as yours. One of you is "wrong". And just as easily as you would scoff at this and be positive he is the one who is wrong, they are just as positive it is you.

As for the uncontested validity of modern science, it would certainly seem that way for now. But let me ask you this: How many times have you done a puzzle like Sudoku and have all your answers work until you get down to some of the final boxes and then realize you've done the whole puzzle wrong? Science is the best understanding of our world we have right now, and it is constantly being revised, modified, and evolving. These changes show that our current understanding isn't perfect. We may be on the path to infallible or factual understanding, but there really isn't any way to know for certain until we've reached the end. And we might never reach that end.

That since LaVeyists call themselves 'Satanists', we are devil-worshipers. That makes me want to slam my head off a wall. If they knew anything at all about Satanism (as founded by Anton LaVey) they'd know it's the exact fucking opposite of devil worship, and since they don't know that, they don't have any right at all to judge it.
Also, I can't stand people who think that 'weres' (People who are fascinated with dressing up as a particular animal and feel a spiritual connection to that animal. Some describe it as part of the furry fandom.) have some sort of mental defect, and that being a fursuiter is synonymous with a condition called 'clinical lycanthropy'. That really makes me sad.
So ... I guess what I hate are people who make shortsighted judgements about things they don't understand.

Technically they aren't.
That's strictly speaking not true. The only difference between a post op male to female transexual would be the genes (x and a y instead of double x), but genes don't dictate gender, the body does. Genes are a set of instructions for bodily construction, but a baby isn't male or female until it's done being constructed.. Changing someone's gene for eye color for example wouldn't magically change the eye color, the body would have to acknowledge the change and make new pigment.

Since such transitions take place long after gender is defined, pre-birth, and the individuals take large amounts of hormone pertaining to their intended gender, despite having the "wrong" genes, they're not going to revert extensive surgery. Genes are just instructions, doesn't matter what they say if the result is altered.

I hate it too, but you have to admit there is significant truth to that. My #1 complaint about Linux is the lack of intuative GUI's for things like installing drivers instead of having to use the terminal (I was also wary of the Package Manager for a while). And the fact that the OS is completely open and allows you to majorly fuck shit up means that you have to be careful and pay attention and most people aren't. They just want to be lazy and call tech support. Personally, I love the satisfaction of accomplishing those tasks myself and that nearly every problem I have can be answered with 30mins to an hour, some Googling, and forum browsing, but I can see why that wouldn't be appealing.

Edit: Also, I blame marketers for the gaming problems. It makes no sense to me why you would intentionally lock yourself out from a significant market and as more OS options become available I think the decisions not to make things compatible with Linux will look really silly. Ubuntu is getting easier to use every update and if they could make more of the basic functions more user-friendly I think you'd see a lot of people skip the multi-hundred dollar OS. Oh, and also make WINE work more like Play-On-Linux.
Seriously, no. For 99% of the drivers they either work out of the box or you use the package manager to install it. Compare that to windows, where you have to dig through the internet for appropriate drivers, especially if you want to use your good ol' printer for the new spiffy win7 pc you just bought at wallmart.

Same goes for software.

Command line hacking just does not happen anymore, at least not involuntary, and at least not on the major distributions.

As for the GUI: Well, you have got it there. I blame Gnome/KDE and the distributors for that, personally. Both have become so unwieldy, and if more distros'd ship XFCE or LXDE, no one'd have to complain.

Might of been said already, but I don't feel like reading 7 pages to see if it has, so here we go:

That rape is about sex. It's not. It's about power, control, fear. Sex is just a "bonus". But everyone fixates on the sex part. That's why you have what SHOULD be clear-cut cases ruling in favour of the RAPIST because of bullshit reasons such as:

1. The guy is already married, so why would he need to rape someone?
2. They already agreed to have sex before/they're married/she's a prostitute! -No still means no, you dipshits. Just because you've had sex with someone before, or you're married, does not mean they have approval to have sex with you whenever they like. As for prostitutes, they deserve the same treatment as anyone else, but their proffession more or less guarantees that they have no chance to see justice. Which is one of the reasons I think it should be legalised, but that's another rant entirely.
3. But they know each other! -Most victims know their rapists
4. She was wearing sexy/slutty/skimpy outfits so she was- STOP RIGHT THERE, SHUT YOUR MOUTH, AND DIE IN A FIRE. If you seriously think that an outfit means that someone DESERVES to be raped, you should remove yourself from the population immediately.

There is way more bullshit like above, but I think my point is made. There was a case in my city where a judge was a total dickwad and basically made comments of "blah blah she was wearing skimpy clothing blah blah she kinda was asking for it blah blah", (although the case was ruled in the victim's favour) and their was a HUGE shitstorm over it. So we're changing a little bit, at least, but not nearly enough.

I'm going to end my rant now before I break my laptop in rage.

This has not been my experience with the OS. Both for my graphics card (nvidia GeForce 8800 GT) and audio card (Creative Audigy 2) I have had to scour the internet for community-made drivers that were not available in the package manager (this was not done recently, it was a couple years ago, but I don't think Creative's seeming contempt for Linux has thawed). Windows does have the issue of updating drivers, but in my experience the large market share they claim has made the drivers relatively easy to find and install except for printers. Software in general on Linux hasn't been that hard though, I'll concede.

This topic has brought a wide grin to my face(up until Rape was mentioned, that is a serious subject). Let's see, misconceptions I hate....

I can't think of any, DAMN IT!

EDIT: Sorry, didn't read the recent posts.
