I liked the second Halo better in terms of the story, it gave all the cat ear owning people a chance to muse over what was to come and what would be in halo 3, and most of what we dreamed up probably didnt happen.

But still, once something gets too pwerful and popular, it always does something stupid to make people turn their backs on it. MW2 has its ded servers fiasco, Halo had Halo3 and Hitler invaded Russia. All things were popular until one stupid point in time

So my question to you is this: Is the Modern Warfare series traveling down Halo's road?

No, it is not a run and gun episode, there is SOME sort of aiming and thinking behind this game. In halo you grab something like a grav hammer or shotgun and you can win the game without thinking. But on MW 1) you dont get grav hammers 2) shotguns have their limitations such as reload times, making it impossible to win the entire game. Just my pov.

MW2 singleplayer short and bland? It's as visually engaging as a hollywood blockbuster action flick. The best in a console shooter I've seen since Killzone and Halo. Which admittedly weren't as good, they just beat... Yea, I have no idea what other shooters are (exclusively) on the console.

I'd actually call it the HL2 of the console. Jumping a chasm on a snowmobile, sitting in a helicopter watching jets shoot past, the story may be on the lower side of good and how you're constantly getting saved by Soap gets pretty old, but it's still a remarkably fun game.

And I don't even like consoles or Infinity Ward since they dropped dedicated servers..

Ok, I believe the Modern Warfare series to be doing exactly what Halo did. Halo: Combat Evolved by many standards was an excellent game, it had a strong story, good gameplay, and a fairly decent online.
Not to nitpick, but the original Halo didn't have any online...

Other than that, I'd say you might have a point.
I'm not sure if anyone else has quoted your post but halo combat evolved did have multiplayer for the pc and it was terrible in my opinion, the pistol had a long ranged scope and could do almost as much dmg as the sniper rifle with rapid fire.

Sorry, but Modern Warfare 2 does not suck. I don't care if you all want to look cool and rebel against the mainstream - the game doesn't suck. Sure, it might not be your cup of tea but it is not a bad game by no stretch of the imagination.

The only thing I wasn't happy with in MW2 was the story. Not so much the events that happened, but the huge plot holes and the lack of thought that was put in to make it a solid story. The story was very flimsy, but it was still exciting.

Dual wielding in MW2 was one of the selling features? I didn't know that, oh well...I do however see what you're saying about the single player. Halo:CE was epic, MW was good aswell. Halo2&3's story were below par, as was MW2's. It doesn't help that you could finish it in a matter of hours.

Let me address this point by point.

Call of Booty 4 is not a good game relying on realism and making you a fleshy normie.

Limited health can slow down the shooter experience thereby taking away from the fun. Regenerating health doesn't make sense in games like Call of Booty so it shouldn't be there, but it works in Halo.

Many people consider Halo 2's campaign to be a vast improvement over CE with things like going rashomon with the Arbiter.

The Call of Booty franchise had games before Grenade of Grenade: Grenade Grenade, of varying quality.

What do you consider a good shooter?
Borderlands, Halo, Gears, Metroid Prime, Fallout 3, Oblivion if you use bows or spells kind of counts, and Mass effect. Pretty much any game that is not burdened by "Realism". I don't like the real world, I have to live here. Nobody has super powers, all the dinosaurs are dead, our political and financial systems are depressingly corrupt, people ruin each-other's lives for their own benefit, A cups are far too prevalent, and all the dinosaurs are dead.

yay for optimisum!

anyway, MW2 is an alright game, but there are some serious balancing issues with the multilayer. i.e. model 1887 akimbo's ridiculously long range and power, pro perks mean that people new to the game don't stand a chance, and its normally a race to get a killstreak reward which will boost you up to even higher ones making the top spot very difficult to achieve. i personally do not care about story mode in FPS games, and tend to head strait for the multilayer so i cant make any comments on that, but i do think that the amount of time isn't an issue with story modes.

i can agree that this trend seems to work, however, i seriously hope that infinity ward doesn't whore the franchise like halo have because it seriously puts me off a game.

Thats sequels mate. They are meant to be mild improvments on the previous game. People seem to bash the sequels of innovative game for not being very innovative themselves. I feel that this is a bad arguement because theya er sequel and are meant to be just more of the previous game.

I was captivated by halos 1 and 2, I wasn't in MW or MW2. Dunno why maybe I have changed differently to the gaming world.

I also would like to know that. I think that if there wasn't any hype for these franchises then people wouldn't say much bad things about them.
I didn't really like halo 3 or MW2( I loved the single players in halo1,2 and CoD4).

The reason I don't really like MW2 and Halo 3 is because I don't really like shooters. I loved Mass Effect but that was probably more for the RPG bit more than the shooting bit.
I thought that the CoD4 campaign although short, it was fun and not too much like any other shooter I had played before. MW2 was kinda bland because by the time I played it I was bored of CoD4 and shooters in general.

I dont really think this is the answer you were looking for. But thats why I don't like MW2 and Halo 3.

EDIT: Shit double post, does anyone know how I can fix it?

I was not saying it based on gameplay mechanics, I meant marketing and how their sequels are turning out to be. I understand your point, but i think you completely missed mine.

BTW, I don't see how looking down a sight is all that different, its still look and shoot if you ask me.

It could be because MW2 is losing its creative entrance or "Fresh" impact, as each installment caters to the player base (PC coments aside), to the point where eventually people have demanded too much and your favourite meal becomes barely tolerable.

But i enjoyed the campaign more so than the first, quite a vivid and different perspective on events taking place, that many people will simply brush off as pure fiction. Im finding the multiplayer contains alot more variety which is keeping me more interested.

Why did you make this thread? its only going to make people comment about how much Halo and Modern Warfare suck.

I personally like both games and the reason that they are both going down the same path is because its a good path.

Yes, it's going down the same road and that's not a good thing. As for the hate against MW2 is mostly from the PC market because the PC version sucks. Period. It is a port from the 360, complete with prompts to use XBox controls and how to consult your XBox Live support.

I think alot of people hate on MW2 soley because their dedicated servers are MIA.

For example.
ModernWarfail2.com a whole site dedicated to bashing on MW2, even going as far to call it "The Biggest fail in PC FPS gaming history."

They even find the stupidest reasons to hate like 2 of the flags for titles are merely reverted colors or Karachi has the wrong language written on the buildings.

I put this down as the money bag phenomenon.

In short the company has seen that the original made a bag load of money and want as much as possible to be produced with their title. A good way to do this is to shit out sequels as fast as possible. This ensures that no real progression, development or changes to the original is made, and a high likelihood that a worsening as the rapid progression means the writers are under a great deal more pressure to create a story line within the time restraints and the game mechanics are more likely to be reused instead of scripting a new system from scratch.

I've come to never expect any real progression from sequels, movie or games it doesn't matter. They all seem designed to do nothing more then make money off a brand name, a fan base and by giving them a name they are comfortable about which plays a lot into the human psych. It is a sad thing, but name recognition goes a loooong way.
