Back in the old NES days, we didn't have memory cards. We had a 25-30 digit codes you had to write down. Don't mistake a l for a 1 ,a O for a 0, or a B for a 8. Many a games would fuck you on that shit, and all you could do was start over.

* looks at a memory card* T_T

Last saturday night, I want to settle down with a good film in bed. I plug one of my external hard drives into my PS3... Nothing. Plug it in to my PC nothing, select open apparently my HD needs to be formatted. Click properties it is empty, 800 legally owned films lost (including obscure stuff I need for my film MA). It hurt, a lot.

I accidentally deleted my smash bros melee data instead of the photo data while cleaning my memory card in the past, it made me sad, but then I got angry and couldn't look at the game again because of my own stupidity. I'll eventually get it all back.... eventually.

When playing skies of arcadia and in the middle of saving, I forgot to go down to the second file and accidentally erased my sister's data, she was halfway through the game. Now every time she plays another game she saves two files, because of me. I still kinda feel bad and stupid.

Mine is without a doubt when my cousin was playing on my PS3 and reset it to factory default. Mind you, this is one of the fat PS3s and I had transferred all of my PS1 and PS2 memory cards onto the hard drive so I could sell off the memory cards for another controller. I lost a minimum of 13 years of gaming data in an afternoon.

Hehe... I was waiting for someone else to bring it up. Now I don't feel quite so old.

I have 2
My Super smash bros melee file had 50+ hours on it, I invite my friend over for a game. We boot it up, and this exact message comes up:
Save file corrupted
>retry
Start New Game
Loads:
Save File Corrupted
Start New Game
Start New Game
Me: FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

And another time on my mac:
*boots up*
*freezes*
*crashes*
Restart
*boots up*
Screen filled with ERROR, PLEASE RESTART in 10 different languages.
*Restarts 15 times, same thing happens*
I take it to the Apple store
Genius Bar Guy: Hmmm, I've only seen this once before, I think we can fix it.
(the next day)
Genius Bar Guy: Yea, um, the entire motherboard and hard drive is corrupted, we couldn't recover a thing.
Me: FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

Ugh, THPS 2 on ps1, had 100% on like 10 characters.
Then one day I started the game and all my save files were gone.

Sims 2 on gameboy, I loved that game so when my gameboy was close to dying I foolishly played all the way up until that little orange light finally died out alongside the wrest of the game, just as I was saving.

Pokemon Yellow save. I only had 90 hours on it, but I had kept the save since my childhood. For some reason the game file corrupted while I was playing Pokemon Stadium.

My old save of FF7. Nearly a hundred hours, level 100 characters across the board, mastered Mataria, etc. I haven't played the FF games since early 2001, but I have since lost my old memory card...sadface...

I remember Metroid Prime. That was a fun game. I got about 75% of the way through it, and I lost the memory card.

I tried to get myself to play it again, but it had just lost it's wonder, playing through the game a second time. I eventually just gave up, and felt bad about how I would never be able to beat the game. Ever.

Then, months later, my friend came over. Turns out I left it at his house and never remembered to go get it.

Needless to say, I was ecstatic.

My sister asked to borrow my Xbox 360 for her birthday party so she and her friends could play Plants vs Zombies. They were nuts on candy and soda and one of them tripped into my console. Both of my memory cards were jammed into the ports and when I took them out they split in two.

I lost a bunch of Mass Effect 2 DLC, about 200 hours total of data from Mass Effect 1 and 2, all of my Fallout 3 characters which added up to another 150 hours, a ton of precious Halo 3 memories in the form of screenshots and film clips, not to mention all the Call of Duty maps, Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 screenshots and data (yes, I put about 48 hours into DOAX2). The biggest shock was when I realized I'd lost all of my 300 hours of play and 30 characters from Soul Calibur IV.

A usb memory unit I used for my 360 failed, it had my profile, some of my saves, and 3 gigs of dlc.

yeah, that totally sucked.

Everything.

Not every instance this has happened but the time that I lost literally everything from a 4 year gaming period.

Accidentally deleted my PS3 profile while trying to start a new one and it deleted everything. Trophies, saves, my 400+ hours of Oblivion, my platinum God of War III, Demon's Souls and Infamous trophies... all gone ;~;

I'm still pissed off about it >.>

kotor 2 on nar shaddaa on pc I had alot of mods installed including TSLRCM. I was on the previously mentioned Nar shaddaa when I decided to quit for the night. Came back next morning my autosave would not work I thought no problem minor set back so I tried to load my main save it would load but freeze up eveytime I tried to change areas. I tried dozens of times to make it work, every which way you can think of. But it still would not work. After pissing away so many hours I do not think I have said so many swear words in all my life. I felt like smashing the comp up out of shear anger.

I was one of those little kids who accidentally removed a save file of my big brother of Final Fantasy VII. He had everything, the Golden Chocobo, the Knights, even when the information on how to obtain those wasn't on the Internet. I still get begrudged for it today.
