Simple Enough: What stereotype is do people apply to you that you most dislike?

My answer: That intelligent people cannot also be athletic. I know everyone on the internet says he is intelligent, but taking high level classes and fencing and practicing parkour I run into far too many people who assume academics and athletics are mutually exclusive.
I LOVE that one though... It means that they underestimate us greatly. Consider my indoor football team(soccer for the US), we consist of 2 'hardcore' gamers, 2 highly involved physists, one historian and an irrelevent fool. We are on top of the division 1 table by a good 13 points at the moment with a game in hand. While the other teams consist of either A grade players from actual teams or gym-obsessors. Few people can believe it without seeing it.

Other than that, I would have to agree with you.

Black clothing, long hair and a beard = must be a metalhead. No, I'm not. Classical pianist, thank you kindly.

Also, I must apparently be straight, because I'm a cynical bastard, prefer good beer over fruity bullshit drinks, don't wear pink and have taste. I don't hide being bi, but it does get on my nerves when people are utterly shocked or flatout don't believe me.

I play wow. According to the stereotype, I'm fat, I drink energy drinks all the time, and I have terrible social skills.

Its great how I don't fit that stereotype. People are actually surprised when they find out I play wow.

I imagine its also better with a legitimate sport. No one ever sees me fence and while I often practice parkour around campus, people see it as nothing more than "jumping around" and expect me to do tricks instead of acknowledging the hard work and discipline it actually is.

When I got back from Africa this summer, a bunch of people kept asking me what it was like sleeping in mud huts in the jungle, and eating bugs.

Dude, the first day we got to the place we were staying, there were two kids sitting on the sofa playing X Box. We had pizza soda regularly.
Pizza soda? That sounds amazing.
Also, who seriously believes that?
Like, my mom's entire half of the family...

And it was the best pizza I have ever eaten in my entire life.
That's gotta be awkward.
I hope you set things straight to some extent.
Yeah I'm from Benin, and when I studied in the US (and even now in France) I get the occasional "Do you miss your village and chasing lions?" ...yes, yes I do. I miss those days where I had to chase lions before going to school every day. Great workout.

I ran into two elementary time muslim stereotypes where in both situations when I told a girl I was muslim and she blurted out "YOU DON'T BELIEVE IN GOD?!" both of those girls were young christians unaware that other religions existed.

EDIT:Also that all black men are threatening.
That all young black girls are sassy arrogant farts.(Which most of the time is true)
LOL! I never had that one "You don't believe in God?!" that's hilarious in hindsight xD

All the stereotypes surrounding black people and women. Actually I despise the attitude that if you don't live these stereotypes than you can't be part of those groups.

That having an interest in crime and forensics means I want to secretly do those things myself.

That having no religion means I'm possessed, a complete douche bag or that I'm just acting out.

Wearing darker clothes and being naturally depressed means I'm trying to be a goth or emo.

Liking horror movies and games (sometimes finding them hilarious) makes me a sadistic person.

My least favorite stereotype is when people assume that, since I'm pale and play video games, Magic, and tinker with computers, I'm some socially inept zombie who never steps outside. Even my parents think this, even though I ride my bike to school (3 miles) and I have friends. It's getting better though :) and that's always a good thing.

Also, the furry fandom is not a bizzare fetish. It is a fandom.
I wish any furry stereotype wasn't a stereotype. Like any fandom, not all of us are weird. Also the whole "You like something "furry" you must be one of those "freaks"!"

As for anything else: Any stereotype that (most)people legitimately believe.

Actually it was very funny. Her freind even started trying to explain heaven to me.
This is one of the reasons I won't choose a religion but still believe in god.
I'm confused I thought you said you were a muslim? Or maybe I misunderstood (english is not my first language sorry)

I'm not saying I hate stereotyping as a whole, they can be hilarious sometimes, and stereotypes being inaccurate or highly exaggerated is part of that hilarity sometimes.

- "All rap is idiotic and none of them have any talent"
I don't really take offense to this because I don't listen to rap often and a lot of it is stupid and obnoxious, but I don't like when people act non-conformist when they say it's all stupid, and then say they listen to metalcore or Green Day or something.

- "Vegetarians and vegans are mostly anemic protein-deficient hyper-sensitive PETA fans who love animals more than people". That's the one that annoys me the most.

obvious one, I'm a PC/gamer so I must be elitist, OR Im fat and live with my mum, am pathetic and has no life

everything from romatic comedeys, basically ALL women talk about are shoes, shopping, complaining about how "fat" they are and must get to the gym, and pining for meeting the "perfect" man
This. "We all know how much us women love shopping. I had a splurge the other day when I saw these cushions at the boxing day sale that were perfect with the decor (we all know what that's like, we see something and just have to have it) and when I went with to Max Brenners with Roxanne for a skinny latte I realised I maxed out my credit card and I got home and the hubby was mad at me. Men sometimes just don't understand, you know? Home-making is the woman's domain and it's important for us to have some me time and spoil ourselves. I let him spend time with the guys, watching the footy and he goes jet-skiing, and he lets me go clubbing with the girls. That's the way it should be. Sometimes he takes me for a romantic date to see a romcom every once in a while and sometimes I'll come to the footy *irritating laugh*" People don't apply that stereotype to me personally, but anyway.

Also, "Women gossip, men do not". My experiences in school did not affirm that stereotype.

I'm a part of the millenial generation.
I'm a gamer.
I spend time on the 'internets.'

Therefore:

I'm a virgin, or I never get laid.
The internet is a waste of time as nothing of importance is on there.
I'm a slacker, and will never amount to anything.
Video games are a waste of time as nothing of importance ever came from them.

Now, nobody will directly say any of these things out loud, but god fucking dammit I know they're thinking it because they treat me this way. In that condescending "Oh, you play video games and surf the internet? How cute. I obviously do neither of those things."

OMG! chirs liley, seriously that guy is a friggen comedic legend! (Ive, sort of seen his work from his days in "Big bite" anyway I love angry boys so far, interestingly enough it seems a little more story focused, Im very interested to see how grans story lines turns out, shes my favorite charachter)

anyway this is a little different, as yes its a steryotype but its use for comedic purposes and its actaully funny and commenting on the whole music thing, as opoased to say the stupid steryotypes you see in NCIS or law and order where its jsut stupid and even offensive

and I actually quite like hip-hop

also I wonder if anyone is going to get offended at his use of blackface

"All Asians are good at math"
I am better at math than any of my Asian friends, and I'm whiter than snow!

On an unrelated note, we were arguing if my Indian friends should be included in "Asian friends", while technically a part of Asia, its just not the same is it? Let me know your feelings on this!

I'm going to activate the biggest flame shield ever made right now. *activates biggest flame shield ever made* So I'm a mormon. And what bugs me the most you ask? "Mormon are polygamists" We ended the practice of polygamy about 100 years ago, and we are never going to touch it again. If you hear of or maybe even see someone practicing polygamy and claims to be a mormon, just know that they aren't. And if they actually are, then know that they will be excommunicated.

I don't like that people think that if you don't have health insurance it automatically means that you don't have a job, aren't looking for one, and 'just sit on the couch eating cheetos all day' y'know training for the heart attack olympics.

Well, parkour is quite exhausting and enjoyable even when its close to ground level. I love doing the minor versions of it, because my vertigo at heights makes my coordination disappear.
People just see something and think "hey, do something that looks cool" rather than appreciate the effort that has to go in to something that is simple from that field.

I'm a white male conservative Catholic American of mostly German descent. By just about all stereotypical views I must be the mentally-challenged spawn of Satan. You know, despite my superb grades growing up, even in science, and being known among my various groups of friends as one of the kindest and smartest guys they know.

And that because I am a nerd who moved to Japan after graduation, I must have done so for the anime. Uh... no. I don't even really watch anime anymore and I can't stand weeaboos. I had Japanese friends in college who got me really interested in the country. I had a mild to moderate interest before, but their influence sealed it.
