Huh... am I in the minority in thinking that looked really shit? I could pull better writing out of my... well, out of any of my various orifices (and so could you, probably). The choreography looked boring at best. Seriously, are standards in action movies so low that this sort of thing is appealing to many?

Woah, that was just. Woah.

However, Sub-Zero was my favorite character! I thought he was the hero for some reason, didnt Scorpion kill off his entire clan or something?

O wells.
I know right? And Baraka is black?

About the Sub Zero thing, there are 2 of them. The 1st one that killed Scorpion (alive at the time) in Mythologies, got himself killed in the first tournament by Scorpion (not so alive) and went on to become Noob Saibot and the 2nd one, his brother.

About his brother, things get a little messed up. While the Lin Quei clan technically killed Scorpion and his clan through Sub Zero, the 2nd Sub Zero despised the way of the Lin Quei clan and left them hanging to join Raiden. Scorpion mistook the 2nd for the 1st SZ. He then fought him in MK4 and defeated him only for SZ to reveal that the one that killed his family was Quan Chi.

Now that's the way of going about a remake in a modern setting without destroying he source material. They expanded on the cool bits and left the campy stuff behind.
I can't see this being a game trailer... and if this movie is really in the works, we might be in for a treat. A horrendously visceral treat.

Looks like a fan film. a quality fan film.
no.

You don't hire ACTUAL actors for fan films, however obscure they are.

+ that looks like it actually cost some deal of money to make.

Freeze the frame where Sub-Zero flashes on the screen. Fuzzy though it may be, that looks like a current-gen rendered game model if i've ever seen one. For me, that seals the deal. This is definitely for the franchise reboot game, not film.

Calling this mortal kombat is like saying a film about 2 ninja sharks fighting off an alien-cyborg invasion is a valid reimagining of the seven samurai as long as all the characters have the same names...
nice effort but really they could have just called it something else rather than butcher an IP that still has a fair amount of potential

Oh for the love of god, it's not that a big of a deal. It's just a different name for it. They mean the same thing as you.
modification =/= mutilation
Just plowing thru the thread from the start, and had to comment on this argument.

Surely Jax, being a law enforcement officer, and promoted, is probably being played as quite clean cut and uptight, and so his use of the word mutilation would be his view of just about anything beyond an earring, it's not what everyone in the world things, just a projection of one fictional character's opinion.

However, yes, going as far as surgically implanting retractable blades into your forearms, counts as mutilation I'd say, again, my opinion, not fact.
I wanna point out Jax's huge metal arms... something I'm hoping that they don't cut out. If they've got a surviving Harlequin feotus they can do just about anything... on a side note one of the only things that still scare me are Harlequin feotus' and I really wasn't expecting it to pop up on the screen!

Hmm, i dunno. It does look interesting but it's only Mortal Kombat in name. I'm guessing Sub-Zero is going to be throwing around some liquid nitrogen or something? I'll keep it on my radar but...hmmm.

Heh, sad part is they showed alot of characters at once, even one for a split second

Stryker, check out 0:28, the guy passing by

But it has a very large cast, including Seven of Nine as Sonya Blade, Al Simmons (spawn) as Jax, and originally I thought Scorpion was played by Jim Caviezel (Count of Monte Cristo, Passion of the Christ), but then they showed his face, it wasn't him, ahh well..

In all honesty, we have no idea what this is all about. A promo for a new movie? A live action trailer for a new Mortal Kombat game? Something else entirely? We don't know. We only know this: Holy crap, we want more.
