And no..

It looks like crap.

That is NOT the Mortal Kombat I know..
Wah wah wah.

The best part about this is you actually see the fights, none of that Jason Bourne crap where the camera man has a seizure every three seconds.

Tell me where you see "Jason Bourne" as director.

No, it is not.
This isn't Mortal Kombat, this is a dull trailer with a namesteal as it will not have anything to really do with Mortal Kombat at all judging from this trailer.
Yeah, it's better. The ridiculous cheesiness of the game series and movies is cut away because NO ONE WANTS TO SEE IT. If you really are torn up about Mortal Kombat being given a backstory to it, well, I don't even know what to say.

This isn't Mortal Kombat, this is just some brutal beat-em-up movie that has no sense and overly violent. True that's what made the original Mortal Kombat game good, but it boasts not having any of the mystical/magical elements. That's part of what made Mortal Kombat. I watched this trailer and while I admit it's good, I got absolutely no feel of Mortal Kombat.

Yaaaaaaaawn. What a disappointing trailer. As an action film, sure, that looked fine. But as Mortal Kombat? Not at all.

The redesigns of the characters I can deal with. In fact, some were pretty cool. The fight scenes were impressive. The acting and dialogue was over-the-top, but in a good way. The plot... eh, I'll pass on by that. The Mortal Kombat feel? Completely nonexistent.

This is either a really good fan movie or a really bad real movie. Either way I'm probably gonna end up seeing it if it's real.

Just read MovieBob's article and decide to give this a look. I disagree with him. This looks a HELL of a lot more interesting than the other movies they tried. It seems like they have a viable story rather than the crap they tried to pull out of the games.

Now I can pin down what bugs me.

When they say "Codename" it sounds like GIJoe or something...

If a murderer has a street name it would be an alias.

So if we are cleaning up Mortal Kombat... you just made it even goofier to explain how they throw fireballs at each other....

This looks bloody retarded. It's Mortal Kombat in name only. It's almost like they tried to make some gorefest/crime drama movie but didn't want to compete with Saw so they slapped on a familiar brand. Seriously, if you're looking forward to this movie, you're as dumb as the studio execs think you are and you'll watch anything with Mortal Kombat in the title.
If they weren't insulting their viewers by calling it Mortal Kombat when it has NOTHING to do with it, other than the character names, I'd actually be interested.

Can say it adds back story but MK already had back story and it wasn't a gang of freakshow serial killers in New York or whatever city this is. All the over the top fantasy stuff is being stripped away for what? Not only are they rewriting/ruining all the characters to make the "gritty" and "real" (because that's what sells!) but the entire premise of the game series is flat out gone now. There's a tournament here, but for what? What's at stake if a bunch of psychos kill each other? Yeah the originals were cheesey and stupid but they were obvious cash ins and so is this. They stuck that MK title on there to see how many lemmings they could pull in.

This is actually a short film technically called "Mortal Kombat: Rebirth". It is entirely unofficial and a stand-alone project but it also serves as a proof of concept for a possible REALISTIC Mortsl Kombat film.

Not that movies based on fighting games and/or "Infiltrate the highly illegal fight-to-the-death tournament that every government agency we have seems to already know A LOT about so we can take it down" films have ever done that well, I'm just saying.

Yay, Scorpion as the main protagonist! Liu Kang was a crappy white pretty boy chick magnet!

Not that I'll actually get a chance to play the game/watch the movie...

They tried Mortal Kombat movies the way we know it, and it failed.

This trailer, it comes off as something Uwe Boll would do when making a movie based off a franchise. The only difference is, this way seems to work.

I love it when hilariously mistaken people try to insult others.

As far as "namestealing" goes, what name is there to steal? Mortal Kombat is shit now. No one likes it. When a franchise is shit, guess what you're supposed to do? Change it. Mix it up. Try to create something new to pique interest. That's what this movie's doing, and, whether it's good or not, they deserve props for trying.
.. Misstaken people?
Now you're only trolling.

Mortal Kombat is not about detective skills. Mortal Kombat is about a tournament to decide the outcome of the entire world. This, is, not, Mortal Kombat.

But fine, okay, it is Mortal Kombat.
JAX who funnily enough probably is the main character now will probably be the one who solves the case, wins the tournament and saves the world. This movie is nothing but an excuse to slap an good franchise name on to ruin it for an excuse for some +18 gore battles.
I really have to explain this to you. Fine.

Jason Bourne is a movie/book franchise. It is not a director. I was making no stabs at the original Mortal Kombat movie, but, in fact, was commenting on the recent action movie trend that involves showing as little of the action as possible, and, instead, shaking the camera a bunch.

Yes, you were mistaken. No, I was not trolling.

As far as the rest of your comment, there's no reason to comment on it. You've only restated your beliefs with different words. You dislike change. Your hatred of change is made even more obvious because you keep saying the same things over and over. You haven't commented on Mortal Kombat's irrelevance in today's world, or whether or not you believe a franchise should try something new when it's decaying. So, whatevs.
Name a movie that have used that since I obviously have not seen any recent Jason Bourne-influenced movies. The latest movie I saw involving fight scenes were this;

I do not doubt what you're saying. People tend to take after others when it's something that's godaweful. The only latest trend I've seen in movie making fight scenes is the "art of slowmotion" which I really don't mind.

Opening with "Waah waah wahh" in countering to my opinion about the movie?
That is Trolling for all I care.

It's decaying - to whom?
To you?
To me?
To the mainstreem?

The last thing I heard about Mortal Kombat as a franchise was Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe.
Do I think they should try something new that just makes it look redicilous? No, I do not.
I find this little argument hilarious. I love it how Zeithri is talking about this (quite intriguing) little trailer is ridiculous and silly, when we're talking about Mortal Kombat - a game who's original idea was "Like Street Fighter, but with gore turned up to level ABSURD."

Is this 'our' MK? No. That's the point. I applaud whoever is behind this for taking a beloved and ill-treated franchise (let's be honest, MK Vs DC was baaaad), spinning it in a new and exciting manner (Scorpion's harpoon now being a CO2-powered grappling hook and punching through a guy's neck? AWESOME), and allowing us this teeny tiny sneak peek. Is the movie going to be about a lot of detective work? I'd bet my right nut* that it isn't. That is the thin veneer of writer's excuse for the eventual next hour and a half of watching a renowned assassin slaughter his way through a modern reimagining of some of our most beloved (and, looking at Reptile, FUGGIN' CREEPY) characters. I hope to the gaming gods that this movie is real and in the works.

To those of you whining about how this isn't like how the games were originally designed, just stop. We've got two movies that fulfill that little quota (not one, but TWO) of fan nostalgia, and look how they turned out. We've got Hollywood's version of 'our' MK; let's let the writers and producers behind the cameras take our beloved Mortal Kombat and craft it into something new and, gods willing, awesome.

*No actual bet or payout will be granted.

YEEEEEEAAAAH! This might even revive the last few shitty games bogged down in a near incomprehensible unrelatable mess.

And it's ABOUT DAMN TIME Scorpion was the focus.

Okay, credit where it's due, despite the fact they missed the point of Mortal Kombat so badly they'd be closer if they fired in the opposite direction, that does look like an awesome reboot of Mortal Kombat.

That said, I loved the mystical element. Don't get me wrong, I'm willing to give this a chance, but I'm just going to say that I loved the magical elements like Shang Tsung.
Wasn't they point of Mortal Kombat a tournament of super dudes killing each other? Looks to me like they got it.

Same here. Maybe if the trailer wasn't so...campy and cliche? That's what it felt like to me anyway...
