I don't see what the problem is with this. If you don't commit any crimes there's nothing to worry about. Enough with the "1984" noise I keep hearing about, it's getting kinda crazy.

I think this is absolute genius, if I was to play I'd just pick a camera in Easterhouse - Glasgow. Very violent place.
You'd likely see about 5 stabbings per day on one of those, way to hit the big money.

People who oppose CCTV because a book told a story of terror are filed in my brain between those who read Stephen King's 'IT' and fear clowns as mass-murderers, and those who believe anything by Dan Brown.

Security cameras are there to record crime, to be used as evidence in a court of law as necessary. It makes things safer.
They don't stick labels above your head while you walk down the street; they can't identify you, the picture quality is low, there's more often than not noone looking at the screen and oh look there's a chav running at you with a knife. Thank god there's some way to catch them and bring them to justice after you wake up from a coma in hospital.

P.S. Is this world-wide, or just in Europe?
just in the UK

OT:fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck. This is bad.I think the phrase one nation under CCTV would be appropriate, now that people are watching 24/7

Thanks for clearing that up.

I'm in America, so I don't need to be worried for now, but I pray that this infection doesn't spread across the pond.

Good luck to you Brits (and the rest of the UK) in fighting this, I hope it won't catch on.

Seriously, this game will just end up being totally boring. Voyeurism is only fun when something is happening. There's a reason they have to pay security guards to watch the cameras.

It sounds very Orwellian, and yet I'm actually intregued. I'm one of the seemingly few people who actually think that CCTV in public places is quite good. I mean you're not important enough to be worth spying on, and yet they are a good tool to keep an eye on street violence. All we need is people to actually watch the cameras. That's where this comes in. I'm going to check this out.
I like the idea of public CCTV too. I mean, what do you have to hide that you'd do in a public place anyway?

Was there a government-engineered plague I haven't heard about yet, to necessitate such monitoring? Countdown to Fingermen and a chancellor starts now.

Also, if they are successful I can see this type of "game" being implemented in the US - patrolling the Mexican border. Countdown to poopsocking racists begins now.
It's the final countdown...
doo da doo dooo....
Sorry.

While I still accept this as a valid chritisisum, I'd liken it to clams that the LHC would create black holes to kill us all--theoretically possible, but incredible unlikely. CCTV cameras can barely distinguish peoples faces anyway, at least when they're on the other side of the road.
*Criticism

And as for CCTV cameras being barely able to distinguish peoples faces, the police have cameras that can produce a crystal clear image of a penny, on the ground, from on top of a 12 story building.

Source: I have been inside my local police station control room centre and they showed us the images and video feeds from the cameras.

Meh. Only a few dull people will have the attention span to look at a camera for more than a minute and the odds of them seeing anything are between jack and shit.

I see nothing wrong with it as long as it's free to play and cameras are not around people's houses or anything. In fact, hell yeah. Finally, the people will be doing something to help make society a better place.

This is fucked up and horrible and all that, but I have to point out that I have never heard of a more boring concept for a game.

Well, considering I'm going to be watched by strangers on CCTV for my saftey anyway, might as well be gamers, Right?
I mean, The police can be bribed and everything nowerdays... But gamers? No way, man. You couldn't get some of them to "lose the game" for anything, could you?

I can't see much difference, anyway. You get watched by strangers every day, just they've taken up a job as a cop. That's about the only difference here.
