The screenshot shows a Grass-type Cyndaquil lookalike and what appears to be a very badly sprited panda cub.
I'm not impressed.
I challenge your statement, sir. Tsutarja, the only confirmed grass type we know of, has not even the faintest resemblance to Cyndaquil. Not to mention, Tsutarja is a snake, Cyndaquil is an echidna.
It's obviously just the way the screenshot makes it look then.
Understood, as the ingame sprites are not the best way to judge a Pokemon's looks. That is why I am waiting until I can see the official Sugimori art of the 5th generation.

They're not the worst if others say they're the best.

I will be forever perplexed by the tendency of humans to use extreme words such as worst and best to describe things that can only be subjective.

I do admire your decision to buy the games regardless. At the very least it will give you time to grow to like the new ones.

I'd like some real changes please Nintendo. 3 on 3 is just going to get too much of a pain to manage.

While I think the Pokemon themselves look increasingly stupid, I think the addition of 3v3 battles and decent graphics might make it a worthwhile purchase.
I completely agree. I hate that I am excited about its release, but...yeah, gotta catch'em all.
Also, yes, the starters look really bad. In my opinion, which counts as nothing more than crap, mudkip was the worst starter. Not because of the interweb fad, or any real reason for that matter. As far as the water starters go, he just doesn't appeal to me. On the other hand, I thought the last three were kinda meh, but I do like the pengy, toitle and primate now. Maybe that guy is right, and i'll grow to like these too.

By triple battles, I thought you might mean 1 vs 1 vs 1. That would have been equally as awesome, if not more so.
Get on the pokémon design team, now!

I'm still not liking the 3d look of this if i'm honest. But i'll wait till the finished product before i make up my mind

Nintendo has changed the battle system in every generation.

Generation 1: Added the system, obviously
Generation 2: Weather effects, additions of 2 new types, splitting the Special stat into Special Attack and Special Defense, multitude of new moves and Pokemon
Generation 3: Abilities, Current IV and EV system, Double Battles, Natures, multitude of new moves and Pokemon
Generation 4: Special and Physical move split, multitude of new moves and Pokemon
Generation 5: So far, Triple battles, and a multitude of new moves and Pokemon

To say that Nintendo is not adding "Real changes" is illogical.

I really dont see why 3v3 battles would be interesting, they are just +1 from 2v2 battles. Only moves like Earthquake and attacks which hit every pokemon will actually be of use in them

I somehow managed to get down double battles without any difficulty. This game actually looks...good. I kinda like the pokemon, they're just as odd as some of the ones ive seen (Farfech'd, Jinx, Or Mr Mime, anyone?). I'm gonna end up buying this game, and screw what my pokemon purist friends have to say (they rag on the Gen V pokemon to no end.)

New moves were a given, and Nintendo would have a large backlash if they didn't include them. 3 on 3 battles isn't a real change, as the system looks to be exactly the same as 2 on 2.

I'm aware that Nintendo has changed up the battle system in each generation, but I haven't seen anything important as of yet.

Take the physical/special split of last generation. That was a huge change. What are they going to do this generation that will be equivalent of that? So far, nothing even close.

As well as moves such as Follow Me, which will become incredibly valuable, or Counter/Mirror Coat/Metal Burst which will become difficult to perform when the enemy could attack ANY of you guys.

After some thought, I have realized that triple battles will be much like Final Fantasy, and indeed would be as entertaining.

That we know of. For all we know Nintendo could be focusing more on the story aspect as opposed to gameplay, which would be tragic.

But the question arises. What COULD they do that would be on par with the Physical/Special split? What can they come up with that would have as much of an effect as that?

They could add new weather, making new strategies but ultimately not changing how the game is played. New items, abilities, and moves, again, only offer new strategies. While strategy is a massive part of the games, I do not see what they could do to make battling any different.

Triple battles are optional, just as double battles were. So you can't really say that triple battles offer a big change, as you can always just do a single. They don't change the actual gameplay, only offer a new form of gameplay. The split CHANGED HOW THE GAME IS PLAYED. As said before, I can not devise a way they could match it.

I attempt to remain objective, "They haven't added real changes" is a false statement, one that I merely challenged. You can not say that Nintendo has not changed the system, as they have. If one was to say "The system is not fun" that would be opinion. "The system has not changed" is a false statement.

Please note that I responded to the first sentence, not the second, which is most definitely opinion.

Your going to tell be you would prefer them to a charmander? What about squirtle? Look into a squirtle's eyes and tell it it's not your favorite.

And its not a decision to be admired. It's a combination of peer pressure and mind control. I have no say in the matter.

Not intending to offend, but I believe that if the starters in the first generation were the fifth generation's starters, and vice versa, then the exact inversion of what you have stated would be your answer.

That is to say, if we had only known about this batch, then in the fifth gen they added the first generation batch, we would have much the same reaction consisting of "The first generation was the best."

That's why I'm iffy about this generation. I can't think of a way that they could match their previous changes, so I don't really see the reason for them to make any more, except that they really want more money.
