3v3 seems a good idea, as long as it is fairly rare otherwise the novelty will wear off. If I remember correctly there were a lot of double battles in Emerald and by the end it was boring. Same as on Battle Revolution on the wii - near enough everything on there is a double battle.

As for the Pokemon....well meh.
Some look ok (like the black dragon/electric legendary on White) but others just look increasingly stupid. Like that fire monkey/bull thing or all three of those at about 0:46

That we know of. For all we know Nintendo could be focusing more on the story aspect as opposed to gameplay, which would be tragic.

But the question arises. What COULD they do that would be on par with the Physical/Special split? What can they come up with that would have as much of an effect as that?

They could add new weather, making new strategies but ultimately not changing how the game is played. New items, abilities, and moves, again, only offer new strategies. While strategy is a massive part of the games, I do not see what they could do to make battling any different.

Triple battles are optional, just as double battles were. So you can't really say that triple battles offer a big change, as you can always just do a single. They don't change the actual gameplay, only offer a new form of gameplay. The split CHANGED HOW THE GAME IS PLAYED. As said before, I can not devise a way they could match it.
That's why I'm iffy about this generation. I can't think of a way that they could match their previous changes, so I don't really see the reason for them to make any more, except that they really want more money.
Sadly that is what every company needs to do, make more money. Customers buy the games because they are fun, regardless of our wishes for change.

Now, the fifth generation is sure to add new content, and the new content is bound to attract customers. The company could not just stop making the games, because customers would express negative feedback. That is why new games come out, with enough content to let the customers have fun and buy the games.

In the end, the games would most likely be as fun as they've ever been. But the customers still yearn for more. All we can do is play the games to judge for ourselves whether or not it is worth it.

One more Pokemon on the battlefield, marginally better graphics, a few new horrendous monstrosities added to the Pokedex, and all of the names changed. Shocking gameplay innovation there Nintendo! Their next step - 50 on 50 battles, in which the game becomes an RTS.
"Electric squad, flank the enemy Water squad from the rear"
Oh my god that would be so awesome!
But then Pikachu would be a Hero unit wouldn't he...

The worst starters yet. Sigh.

I know I shouldn't buy this but I know I will. Curse you Nintendo!
They're not the worst if others say they're the best.

I will be forever perplexed by the tendency of humans to use extreme words such as worst and best to describe things that can only be subjective.

I do admire your decision to buy the games regardless. At the very least it will give you time to grow to like the new ones.
Your going to tell be you would prefer them to a charmander? What about squirtle? Look into a squirtle's eyes and tell it it's not your favorite.

And its not a decision to be admired. It's a combination of peer pressure and mind control. I have no say in the matter.
Not intending to offend, but I believe that if the starters in the first generation were the fifth generation's starters, and vice versa, then the exact inversion of what you have stated would be your answer.

That is to say, if we had only known about this batch, then in the fifth gen they added the first generation batch, we would have much the same reaction consisting of "The first generation was the best."
No. You would be wrong.

It pointless to argue that if they were in the first one then my opinion maybe different because it simply isn't. Also I find the new starters pretty ugly. Its a wonder why I didn't mind johto and hohen(spelled that wrong didn't I?). The reason why I dislike them has nothing to do with where they stand generation wise. It's purely aesthetic.

They need to sack whoever comes up with the pokemon designs.

The art direction has been getting gradually shitter since Ruby and Sapphire.

And please, they'll grow on you. They always do :p Also, counterpoint [http://nerfnow.com/comic/302].
THANK YOU, I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking this way. And why does everyone act like coming up with another hundred or so of these creatures every generation is the simplest job in the world?

Well in this case I apologize for my previous assumption. The problem is that what I have said is the case for many "fans" of Pokemon, claiming that the series has been ruined by Pokemon they don't like when in reality they are simply overcome with a sense of overwhelming nostalgia.

I'd like to make amends. I believe the human term is, truce?

Honestly, I'm quite excited about this. Ugly starters aside, I love the new dynamic battle camera and the look of the cities and towns. It seems to be much more epic than any of the previous entries in the series.

Also, while it may be true that nostalgia is simply making the older Pokémon look better to me, it doesn't change the fact that I prefer them.

That would be the mature thing to do. The way you talk hides hidden offense. I personally think your aware of this though, you also seem to be enjoying it. You have also yet to say anything productive.

The conversation ends here but I wont give you a truce nor will I hate you. I will just ignore you. Why? You seem to be repeating it. Not just with me.

I have a totally original idea for gen 6!!

4-on-4 battles.
and by generation 12 it just becomes command and conquer for pokemon where your ordering around whole fleets of pokemon at once and assigning certain trainers to catch more

Right, I'm calling it. First two pokemon, now three. We'll be seeing full pokemon armies in a turned based (or possibly even real time) strategy game before long.

Catch them, Train them, Battle them, Rule them.

For the first time ever, you will be able to catch and deploy over one thousand on-screen pokemon as, starting with only a single pokemon you build a squad, and then an army capable of defeating the corrupt, tyrannical cabal that is the elite four. As you progress you shall defeat, one by one, the 'gyms' and their lackeys that keep the lands of Johto in check. Will you free the people and their pokemon from the yoke of oppression, or use the gyms to supply you with a stream of new, fanatical recruits?

The fate of the world is in your hands.
... Okay, show of hands... Who thinks that games sounds freaking epic and would love to play it? I know I would.
