Hah! That's why you get in on the PC, noobs! All hail the PC master race!

Yes, I'm just kidding. I own a Wii and a PS3, too.

For 360 users, here's a radical idea. Uninstall the game. Play off the disk for all of 17 days, how hard is that, really. The loading times aren't really that noticeable unless you're unlucky enough to be casting on the border between two zones, but otherwise it's fine. You can deal until the patch drops.

You know the following two things:
1. Skyrim is on a different engine than Fallout 3.
and
2. New Vegas was made by Obsidian, not Bethesda.
Right?

The issue may have existed on both engines, but that doesn't mean it's caused by the same thing and can be fixed the same way.
I was unaware that skyrim was made on a different engine then fallout 3. As for New Vegas it may have been made by Obsidian but it was on the same engine as Fallout 3.
The difference in stability for me has been night and day. The new engine on my PC runs for 12 hours+ without even a hint of crashing.

New Vegas finds out I hinted at a smile and drops.

I love both games but I dream of New Vegas on a more stable engine.

I actually had this game-breaking bug on the PS3.
I bought the game and after updating to v.2.00 it didn't start up. "New Game" would just show a quick glimpse of the default trailer dragonborn dying and then threw me out to the main menu.
I actually fixed it by uninstalling and when I reinstalled I ignored the 2.00 patch and it started OK.
Downloaded the 2.00 after saving, and it's OK now.

As a PC gamer, I am personally loving the fact that the game is consistent with textures, performance and I can fix any game-breaking bugs. However, I am not loving the random (but, admittedly, incredibly smooth) crashes to desktop.

Ha! That's actually a great way of putting it. The crashes are some of the best I've seen. Completely clean, back to desk top. No hanging threads and alt+tabbing to task manager to end this baby. Just a nice clean crash.

Also, I've taken to quit the game by opening the console and typing qqq. That's much faster than enter the silly menu system the made. Why, oh, why does Esc open my journal?

Maybe a Gypsy curse from Mojang?
Bethesda is actually the ones who got Yogscast to drop the f-bomb in front of some kids, so they could collect the tears from Notch's QQing, to rid themselves of the curse.
Who was in the wrong with that whole situation between Notch and Bethesda?

I haven't had any problems on the PC except for those clean crashes once or twice. However, my brother started playing on his own save and experienced the Delphine bug of her raging bloodlust during the Diplomatic Immunity quest. To get the party clothes and continue the quest he had to dual cast Calm on her because single casting wore off before the conversation was finished.

Oh, good. I didn't think they could fix the lag problem. Thought it was my PS3. It's been jumpy at parts, but nothing unplayable until last night. I was following the Orc chief--to get the Daedec artifact--and had Lydia following me. We were attacked by bandits and the game just dropped into lag Hell. Probably would have died if Lydia wasn't such a good fighter. Glad they'll be able to fix it.

I still would like some patches or some mods to smooth out the shading, things look funky when shadows are casted upon them. Also, real DLC in the near future would be nice... after the Xbox guys are done and finished with them of course*rolls eyes* I hope they are more then just a single dungeon though.

Oh wow after them knowing about this bug in their game engine for three years they are finally going to fix it. This issue existed in fallout 3, it existed in new vegas and it exists in skyrim as well. I have absolutely no faith in bethesda either being competant enough or caring enough about its customers to fix this bug.
Yes. The new creation engine is the old engine. Nice logic.
All signs point to it being a modified version of Gamebryo. Hence the same bug.

Ive been playing Skyrim pretty regular since launch on the 360 and Ive had no problems or bugs at all.

Well the first and only time a Giant killed me(Giants are Skyrim's Deathclaws, do not F- with unless your mid-high teens. At least Giants dont get aggressive unless you get right up close to them or their mammoths) he swung down his club with all his might and one shot killed me(at full health) the blow rocketed me at least 50 feet up in the air straight up. Though I attibute that more to the Giant being super strong and me weak than a actual bug.

Considering thats the only thing quasi-experience breaking ive found thats incredible. Hell Fallout: New Vegas was buggy as shit, you couldnt jump to save your life. Sure by now a whole year later with all the patches and DLC its much better but thats no excuse. Bethesda should never, NEVER, outsource their IP to any other developer, only they can do what they do. Obsidian had the tools and the materials but had no clue how to put it together, their B- developers at best, compared with Bethesda who is AAA. I now Skyrim took up much if not all of Bethesda's staffs time in the three years it took to build but I would think Todd Howard could pop his head in every once in awhile to give guidance.

Also *rubs finger and thumb together* hear that Sony boys? Thats the world smallest violin playing heartstrings just for you. A PS3 having bugs is nothing new, if you wanna run the risk of poor gameplay and issues because your blinded by the pretty lights and hardware thats all on you.

Why are modern games released which aren't working? Profits before playability? I remember buying Playstation and Nintendo 64 games which didn't rely on later patches or fixes. As far back as the SNES, Sega Megadrive, Atari, Gameboys etc, all of the games released for these worked for me. Is it too much to ask for modern games to work?
I'm not defending modern games per se, but you do realize that they are immensely more complicated than anything ever released on the SNES, right? That's like wondering why a new model car is harder to trouble shoot and fix than a bicycle.

On a slightly different note has anyone checked out the PC mods yet? They're on it freaking fast, they already have higher res environmentals (like trees/blood) and updated night sky. Freaking 'mazing

I kid I kid. (kinda) :p

edit: To be fair, the PC version sometimes receives heat from the community. I'm not entirely sure why though. Something about the menu/layout console-lizy something?. I wouldn't know because I find the game just fine

i recently found an old interview of gabe newell that describes the ps3 multi-threading code issue
apparently it's a system flaw
( or rather a multi-thread design that just breaks safe code practices )

it's not surprising then that this slipped through the cracks
check here at 3:05 onwards, and look at the date! it's a known programming flaw for sure.
