I had hoped for a sequel to The Last Airbender, though one that was maybe 10 years into the future with the same main characters. But I'm still looking forward to this. Steampunk tech vs shaministic martial arts? Count me in.

I can't help but wonder how and if the Order of the White Lotus will be brought back.

But I do hope they explain what happened to Zuko's mom.
Isn't Zuko's mom dead? I remember the series strongly implying that the Ozai killed her because she disobeyed him or somesuch.
No towards the end Zuko's dad told him he exiled her and at the last moment of the last episode Zuko went up to him and said "Where's my mom?" and it ended with no conclusion of his mom :(

Just remember, this isn't an apology for the movie. It was in the works since the series itself actually ended. Nickelodeon's still got some 'splainin' to do.
Good, because there's nothing to apologize for, you fanboy.

This is nice and all, but I'm going to miss the old characters. Mostly just Iroh. It won't be the same without him. And I hope they just don't just copy the old characters personalities and paste them onto the new ones.

Steampunk?
I go get my goggles and top hat.

EDIT: That girl must be skilled as hell to master 3 styles...while the avatar is still alive.
Ke pasa?? I think you might have read it wrong, since there's only one Avatar alive at a time. Aang's dead. D:

OT: I'm officially going of my tits with excitement. It's cool that they're not just redoing more of the same, but taking a riskier move and branching out with a completely new direction. I really can't wait to see how it turns out.

Plus, Aang is still in the show, he's just a spirit to Korra, like Avatar Roku was to him. I really hope for some cameos! ^^

Awesome awesome awesome. With the original creators behind it hopefully it'll be as good as the first. And steampunk makes it even more awesome. Definitely looking forward to this one.

If anything, I'm hoping that Sokka and Toph are members, as it would be fitting for them ^^

But no Iroh! I'm so sad! D:

So, you know how in Avatar, Katara would sometimes dress up like a spirit or a ninja and turn into this dark, relentless, unstoppable badass? She was, basically, a teenage girl version of Batman.

So now we've got a new series, set nearly a century into the future, centered around a dark and corrupt city infested with crime and dangerous zealots. And we've got a new teenage girl, who's also a waterbender. And while we know Aang's gone, we don't know about Katara yet.

All I'm saying is, if Katara shows up as a grizzled old recluse that has to train Korra to take up her mantle as the city's protector [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BatmanBeyond], that will be awesome.

Bonus points of there's a gang of sociopathic Azula wannabes.

I'm glad it was a kids show. The urge in the third season would have been to go "Darker and Edgier" but because it was on a childrens network it stopped them going too far and ruining it.
Despite being a kids show, I was very happy it was not an immature show. It had some quality, mature writing and addressed plenty of serious topics in a way that was still accessible to children. Heck I'd say it already was pretty dark from the get-go, just not in the "grrrr!" way we're so used to.

There aren't a lot of shows that take children seriously, Avatar did and I was very happy about that.

Well to be fair, you can probably owe much of it to Sokka, as he was the one in the series who really started finding ways to use bending to create modern technology (submarine for instance). I wouldn't be surprised if he was one of the major inspirations for the main city in this one.

I'll be interested in seeing this as well, Avatar was the best thing to hit Nickelodeon since Invader Zim or Angry Beavers.
Sokka is totally underrated. I heard Shamalaladingdong fucked him up royally in the movie, I cannot forgive him for that.
Yea hes fucked up in the movie.
Now that i think about it, Sokka was one of the few people that applied other styles of bending to technology. (fire nation had its forges and flame thrower tanks) Im sure he would keep the trend going after the war, he probably mechanized Ba Sing Se.

I dontk now if steam punk is a good way to go. I mean, yes, the fire nation had machines, and yes, toph could bend metal. But at the core of that was the overwhelming message that nature beats machine. It sounds like what will happen here is she is fighting machines and probably metal benders. That just takes out the whole human growth that you saw in Zuko as the villian turned good guy that was enjoyable. When you fight metal men... it just doenst carry the whimsical ways.

and yes, i get that it is trying to keep the original audience by giving a more grown up tail, but if they make it this grunge-like drama without the cast of colorfully playful characters, it just wont seem the same, and will seem like someone took it away from the creators. Lets not forget, the creators of avatar were there with M. Night in his film and look how that went.

I bet money that Korra is going to team up with a male character who has no bending powers but is skilled with machines and technology...
