Newsflash: Grandparents are adults to.
Seriously, why would we care Nintendo?
First at E3 and now this?
It's beginning to look like a teacher rapping his/her lessons to be "hip" for the kids.
It's not going to earn you the childrens respect because your forcing it, or maybe you could earn their respect but only if they were really stupid.
Oh wait...

Surely the fact that the research being done to prove that Nintendo is awesome is being done by Nintendo kinda makes the whole thing slightly unbelievable?
It would be more believable if the guy doing the pooh-poohing offered to eat his own .... if that claim fail to be true, how about it Reggie are you now willing to really stand by what you say? :p

Yeah bullshit, I bet it isn't include all consoles on the 360 or the ps3 and unless every single console is accounted for then it's marketing horseshit to get you to buy on

I mean more sales than an Ipod, bullshit that thing has sold something ridiculous such as 100 million times (citation needed)

The Wii has been sold an impressive 70 million times but it's not as much as an ipod. COme on those things own the mp3 market

No! NO! NO NO NO NO NO!!

Absolutely NO. Never ever listen to that hyperboling, insane, idiotic fanboy with the ego the size of f'ing solar system, stuck in his nostalgia filtered lollipop dream world, spreading his completely and utterly mad arguements and stupid ideas that has next to no resemblance to logic and rationality. He should never be associated with video games or any form of entertainment.

And we shall never talk about him again.

I have some doubts of the validity of the survey. The only Wii owners I know who play it at all regularly are parents playing with their kids. I know plenty of adults with 360's and PS3's who play on those every day. I realize the data is saying something else, but personal experience is contradicting that data pretty severely. I'd want to see the specific questions, know the means by which the survey was distributed, and see the raw data before I would be able to draw any real conclusions.

I will believe it when there is actually some evidence of it in my life. Seriously everyone I know that has a Wii doesn't use it unless they are below 10 years old.

most people that are under this study didn't grow up with video games and tech,
Maybe not with a computer or console in most homes but gaming has been widely available since 1971, Those of us approaching 35 are both adults and highly exposed to gaming and you know what?
Those in their fifties have a pretty good exposure too, my dad may remember the day arcade machines first turned up in his local pub and he may consider them as a distraction and not appreciate how they could be a hobby but he plays likes playing and has been playing games on and off for a much of his lifespan. Are those above retirement what you call adults?
Here is the thing, gaming didn't really become very wide until the playstation era. Before that it was a tightly contained geek culture, like comics before Watchman. Nobody other then geeks played games that much.
It's true that gaming wasn't widespread as a hobby, the problem isn't a lack of exposure though ,almost everyone under sixty will have played a few games at some point, it's that fact that in the earlier days of electronic games it was easy to see them as trivial and unworthy of your time. People rarely reassess their initial opinions unless forced, and to be fair if I based my opinions on centipede and pong I'd think of games as a barely amusing waste of time as well.

And I think your giving 'geek culture' more credit than it's worth.

Successful nintendo troll is being successful...

:p

I feel the need to quote my own mother now...

"The Wii turned out horrible! All the games suck, and they're nothing but childish mini-games! They have some cool technological advances but that's about it!"

I love you mom!

You made a stupid sexist comment thats all. You didnt provide anything intelligent in your statment in this case.
I'd say you are the one trying to make it sexist. It was not sexist, as I told the other person, try rereading it instead of just interpreting it how YOU want to. I didn't provide anything? Neither did you.

This survey or whatever only has play time for 1-2 hours a WEEK?? Really? Most 360 and PS3 owners will play way more than that a DAY. I know I sure as hell do.
AT LEAST 1-2 hours a week, and im sure this survey although not 100% accurate is probably right. Is the servey biased probabaly but then again so is the entire escapist community when it comes to the wii. Seriously i think there are more wii haters here then mw2, halo, fallout3, and portal lovers combined and all for absolutly no reason at all other then they are not its main target audience. Also this is a gaming website im sure most people who visit gaming websites enough to have accounts play games more then 1-2 hours a week.

They said people over the age of 18. That inculdes all those drunken mw2 loving frat boy stereotypes.
I dislike the Wii for it's lack of a DVD player, when I could clearly just hack it and add the functionality in myself using software. That's all. Also to anyone who goes OMG THIS IS FAKE. It counts "casual" gamers as well. dumbasses.

I think someone else posted stats of what they were buying though, and a disturbing number of people only had the shitty sports demo thing that came with it, and maybe another game, that in all likelihood they hardly touched as it possible was bundled with it.

people can call the Wii casual all you want, but if you actually look into its library it DOES have some quality games.

True, but they went with the bare minimum here. If it had gone at least 4-5 hours or even higher, the numbers would be drastically different. Have to wonder how many Wii owners fall into that 1-2 hour only category. My mom has a Wii, and I've tried to play and enjoy it, but after two hours, I just get tired of jumping through hoops (sometimes literally) to play a game. And yes, my mom's Wii is one that sits in the corner and gathers dust. The only time it sees any action now is when I'm over there and want to watch something on Netflix.

To be fair, if this is on the Wii: It must be for adults.

But as someone else said, Adults=casual gamers and Wii=casual games, the math isn't that hard.
