maybe.
It doesn't look good if these notable devs are worried about it.

The thing is there will always be a one sided argument that such control is beneficial.RhombusHatesYou said:Yes, they seem to be confusing 'our convenience' with 'their control' again.Treblaine said:You know what, Microsoft, we have the mechanisms ourselves to decide what programs are safe and suitable. They are useful to the PC gaming community but they are in no way necessary.

Interesting how without any details or the thing even being released these guys can still label it a catastrophe. I thought the disaster had to actually happen before it could be labelled a catastrophe. This is a potential disaster, a disaster waiting to happen. However, it could not be a disaster, and after managing to receive the usual 'negative press before it's even released,' do people really think Microsoft won't take these concerns into consideration? And if they didn't it would be somewhat like the whole Vista madness, and a new OS would be out so fast it would be possible to skip Windows 8 entirely. I went from XP to Windows 7 without ever really using a Vista computer, and if things really are as bad as Gabe, Notch and Rob Pardo think they might potentially be then this will be the same.Gabe Newell labeled it a "catastrophe."[/url]
Blizzard's Rob Pardo voiced his agreement shortly after.
Your analogy fails as Linux absolutely LOVES its users and their rights above all else.rhizhim said:yeah, linux is as user friendly as the westboro babtist church is nice to gay men.Treblaine said:Torrasque said:Wait. There could be a day in the foreseeable future, when Apple OS is preferred over Windows OS?! Wow, that'll be the day.![]()
No... THIS will be the mother hubbarding DAY, my friend.
Apple's stability is favoured because it is based on a ripped off version of Unix (daddy of Linux) but is then derped by layering Apple's special brand of authoritarian control sauce over the top.
Windows had the advantage of having the balance between openness and content. Linux was and has always been the ideal operating system but just was not supported as windows had enough freedom. But things are changing. Microsoft is trying to copy their competitor who is actually taking FAR LESS of the PC market with locked down "streamlined" operating system.
You know what, Microsoft, we have the mechanisms ourselves to decide what programs are safe and suitable. We don't need your special authorisation BS.
yes they are working on it, but there are several reasons why linux hasnt taken over the market.
every OS sucks.
Except Microsoft wants it like App Store where EVERYTHING goes through the store. It's already been confirmed many version this windows store is the ONLY way to install any program.evilneko said:It's very much ado about nothing.
No one is forced into the Windows Store.
Wow, he has a twitter account, truly he is as bad as the Kardashians and no way does this award winning programmer and very successful independent entrepreneurial developer have anything relevant to say about this. Nah, he's just some uninformed idiot repeating random things random people say with absolutely no logic at all. move along, nothing to see here, if any other experts tell this warning that only confirms your theory that people are stupidly repeating this rumour, not a unanimous consensus of experts, hell no.TomWiley said:No surprise that Notch decided to jump on the bandwagon. In fact Minecraft doesn't even exist, it's all a hoax made to serve pointless Notch worship. All those youtube videos, all faked by the CIA. That memory I have of playing minecraft for days, I must have imagined it from Notch's Pharaoh like insane worship, in fact more people talk about Notch than the previous three US president's combined.
PS: Microsoft is nothing to worry about, a very trustworthy company who never does wrong.

Gabe Newell doesn't count because he started the trend. The rest of them however could very well be attention-whores.PingoBlack said:From the original article, quoting:TomWiley said:No surprise that Notch decided to jump on the bandwagon. ... Markus "Notch" Persson ...
... Gabe Newell ...
... Ed Fries ...
... Rob Pardo ...
So a minimum of four (4) attention whores right there.
There goes any chance of sentient discussion ... Since you see, they all have way more industry cred than you. And bottom have more cred than Notch himself.TomWiley said:Gabe Newell doesn't count because he started the trend. The rest of them however could very well be attention-whores.

I'm sorry I just ruined any hope you had of having a sentient discussion, which undoubtedly was the intention of your first reply. Why would you even say that? I played Minecraft like two hours ago. And what would CIA possibly stand to gain from this, assuming that your absurd conspiracy theory is even true.Treblaine said:Really? Minecraft doesn't exist, it's all a hoax by the CIA?

And I sarcastically said that Minecraft was a hoax game that never existed. That was one of the 'things' I said. A whole Paragraph.it's not sarcasm if everything you say is true.
No worry, just from your statements alone it is obvious your cred is way bigger than any of there's.TomWiley said:I'm sorry I just ruined any hope you had of having a sentient discussion, which undoubtedly was the intention of your first reply. I thought you meant to sarcastically say how Minecraft is *not* a CIA hoax, thus indirectly implying that it *is* a CIA hoax, to which I replied by pointing out the obvious, namely that it's a literal impossibility that Minecraft is a hoax.Treblaine said:Why would I say that?!? I put a big sign at the bottom of my post labelling it as sarcasm. As in, don't really believe this is true, irony, opposite of literal intention.
You even acknowledged that I was trying to be sarcastic yet you claimed:
