Oh come on people look at the signs. He's clearly an alien, hell bent on the destruction of the video game industry. It really isn't that hard to figure out.

To my credit, my accusation they may have used a double was followed with supposing that it probably was just him with a cold.

Perhaps Yahtzee can identify that mic and find another one on the Internet somewhere. Although if it's really as cheap as that, it's probably a fair miracle that it lasted as long as it did.

I wager newer mics he's running into aren't sounding awful because they're not able to record as well as much as they're sounding awful because they're actually recording better and not getting that usual tinniness. He might want to consider some mixer software that tweaks the treble or some such to replicate his old mic.

Well, there's Yathtzee's explanation for his voice. Weird how that took up most of ACII's Extra Punctuation.

I can't believe people thought it wasn't Yahtzee. I was going to chime in on the comments, but after it had hit the second page, no one would have bothered reading it.

Don't forget, there is "gullible" written on the ceiling.

Yahtzee, you should totally do an episode with MC Hawking voice.

All that video shows is
1. Stephen Hawking sounds cool when rapping.
2. Stephen Hawking is evil.
How does that show that Stephen Hawking is evil? Yahtzee doing a review in his voice would be awesome, especially if it's a space game. Like, maybe Mass Effect 2...

Oh yeah. Like he's going to ADMIT to using a stand in. You have no idea what the Escapist advertising revenues are on a show like his.

Or something.

So, the reason his voice sounded weird on Heavenly Sword was because of the flu? That's why he sounded similar on Assassin's Creed II. I see. Btw, I think that Ubisoft mentioned something about World War II? Perhaps not for the third part of the series, but after that. If it is true, I will be highly disappointed, because one of the big strengths of both Assassin's Creed games are the settings that aren't used very often in games.

I believe I was the one to suggest that it was someone else doing the review and for that I apologize to Yahtzee.

I find it amusingly ironic that he had to use a Guitar Hero Mic, when just a few days ago he was saying that he got no use out of the cluttering plastic pieces of junk.

Yeah I have no intention of buying the later games because I couldn't stand Desmond from day one why in hell would I want to play a whole game about him?

That aside do you really think we are gonna believe no aliens abducted you when this is exactly what they would say? I'm on to your tricks xenu!

Extra Punctuation: On His Voice

Yahtzee explains the change in voice, and denies any and all accusations of alien snatchers and voice doubles.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Can't you all see? (Paul) Yahtzee of (the Beatles) Zero Punctuation died in 1966 and was replaced by a look-alike and sound-alike.

The evidence include statements heard when a ZP is played backwards, symbolic interpretations of obscure Extra Punctuations, and ambiguous imagery on Video Reviews. Some of these have become well known, such as the fact that Yahtzee is the only person wearing a badass hat in his videos, or the belief that some Escapist Staff members says "I buried Yahtzee" in a slow, deep voice over the final refrain of "Assassin's Creed 2"

Jeebus Cripes. A stand-in? People thought it was a stand-in? Look, I'm not the world-traveling cosmopolitan sort, but even I could fairly easily pick out the differences between a British accent and an Austrailian one. Why not go whole-hog, and just accuse Yahtzee of stealing a TARDIS and going 10 years into the future to get an older version of himself to do it?

...unless that's really what happened... hrm....

Anyway, Ben, best wishes for a quick recovery. May the new cheap mic serve you as well as the old cheap mic did.

It seems that folks don't know how a typical critic works. If he's nitpicking, he enjoyed it. Take the Dragon Age review, for instance. He spent a good half of the review ripping apart the genre rather than the game. Though it was "generic kill the dark things" fantasy, it missed the darker flavor that was advertised.

Cheers, Yahtzee. Have yourself a good sodding week.

I still don't see why him having a new voice was such a big deal, anyway, Cuddlycombine just got owned. Lol.

Seems a lot of fans jump to silly conclusions, I really think everyone should just go "meh" and let him enjoy his personal reasons for whatever.

It was distracting for the first minute or two and then not so much. I really want to say it sounds like a combination of recording change and having a cold but that doesn't seem too likely.
Well I'll be danged, I was right.

I did a ZP marathon once, and I remember my first thought being that he sounded differently in Heavenly Swords. Glad to hear the change in voice was a one-time happening (or maybe two or three times, but whatever).
I listen to them randomly all the time and there are a lot of little changes but I always thought it was equipment and encoding differences-- if you really pay attention, his old YouTube videos have slightly higher resolution and sound a little different.

Anyway I hope you get well soon (or rather are already since the next ZP is already recorded by now), you... British... game critic... you.
