My friend's cousin is Dante, which is an uncommon but awesome name.
My name is Danteé, and my last name is just weird... Does it still count as awesome?

My girlfriend and I were talking really late at night about possible baby names if we had a daughter... I think her name would be here, but I still am rather fond of it: Purple Vilet. I don't know if we would actually name her--if we had a daughter--that, or if it's just something that is just for now.

Some family named their child "kia" for a free car
That one at least sounds like a name though, and hey, free car.

OT: Actually not really OT because I am going the complete opposite way and saying that there was a kid at my brothers summer camp named Thor. Awesome.
I'm gonna go watch Top Gear now... I will admit though I will name my child Pagani Zonda with optional ceramic break package if it got me a free car :D

On topic: The only really funny name I have heard is someone named Richard Head. Who incidentally is a Major in the army. Pretty sure there is only one reason he got to that rank and hasn't moved since

I knew a girl once named Abcd. Pronounced Ab-seh-dee. She told me that as soon as she was old enough, she will change her name, and I couldn't agree more. She tells everyone to call her Kelsey, because that's what she wants to change it to.

Life ain't easy for a boy named Sue.

If I named a daughter Lolita I'd have to change her name around 12-13. >.>

I made a thread about extremely bizarre names. I'm not insulting anyone with a strange name, aside from stating the fact that their parents chose something extremely odd to name them. Only a moron would argue that D'Brickashaw is a perfectly normal, common name.

If my name was Gonorheaa or Crucifixio I'd know and acknowledge that I had a strange name. If you think my name is strange, that's fine with me. Say that you think my name is weird, that's your right. But coming in here and using a flimsy justification to blatantly insult ANYONE is not something that I, or this community, will stand for.
"because a lot of people in my hometown are complete morons, and would name their children something absolutely ridiculous."
"What in the hell is wrong with some of these people? Sure, if you're 19 years old (and a complete moron)"
""This is why we should need licenses to breed""

Im sorry, what were you saying about the community not standing for someone using a flimsy justification to blatantly insult ANYONE?

So these people are morons and should not be allowed to breed simply because they do not name their children something generic and boring.
Yeah, go take a long hard look in a mirror chap. Cause the last thing this community needs is another self important nobody who is happy to insult others using their own flimsy justification but gets in a right tiff when people point out exactly what sort of person they really are.
You are right. I started the topic before stopping to think, and I said things that I shouldn't have. I will go and amend the original post to make it less rude.

There's nothing wrong with naming your child something interesting (although maybe I'm not the best to comment on that, because my daughters name is Allyson), but some of the names in that article are absolutely guaranteed to make these children's lives extremely difficult throughout school unless they turn out to be a star athlete.

Again, I'm sorry if I personally offended you, and I thank you for pointing out my lapse in judgement.

people should be able to name their kid the most retarded thing the want. It is their kid btw...
It's not some dog they're giving a silly name, it's a real human being! These children will have to live with whatever name their parents give them for at least their entire childhood if not their entire lives! Parents giving their child a stupid name will ensure that they are taunted and mocked throughout their childhood, that sort of bulling can lead to disillusionment and psychological trauma, it's also been shown that people who were given odd names are more often discriminated against in the workplace. So no, people should not be able to name their child whatever they want because that can royally screw up their children's future.

As for the strangest name I've ever heard, it would actually have to be a girl I met this evening: Csarah... I have no idea how it's spelled but it sound like Cuh-Sarah. Supposedly she was named after the misheard lyrics of a song. Funnily enough her roommate is named Sarah.

lol
Just like this community needs another keyboard warrior, picking fights where there's no real justification for one and just generally trying to get a rise out of people.

Tell me, if you find his wording of this topic so objectionable, why didn't you make a post to that effect? Why did you resort to cheap and personal insults? In short, why did you do the exact thing you seem to have a problem with?

There's nothing wrong with making a thread on a forum about unusual names, the original post could've been classier but launching such an attack about something so trivial is pretty damn pathetic in my opinion.

One of my grade school teachers told me about how she went to school with a girl named Shithead. It was pronounced "Shi-thee-ed," mind, but it was still spelled Shithead.

I also know a girl named Anita Cox. Not quite as good as the one at the start of the thread, but still humorous.

Anything I could say now would be anticlimactic.

I eagerly await November 11th to see if anyone names their child Dovahkiin.
To be fair though, telling someone your name means "Dragon Born" would be kinda neat. Would certaintly go over well through grade school.
Yeah, but when you explain that it means dragon born in dragon tongue, you're going to get your teeth kicked in on a regular basis.

OT: I can't match any of the listed names.

I don't know- I did my last two years of highscool in El Paso (Army brat, LOTS of different schools in several countries) and a lot of names that would've been funny in Georgia or Germany (where I did my first two years) were really normal there. I was boggled to be going to school with so many kids named Jesus (pronounced Hay- seuss) but that was perfectly normal for a first generation American kid with Mexican heritage. We had two brothers named Zeffin and Bedaiah- spin offs from Bible names- but they were both really funny and popular, and seemed to own their names. I think it's kind of horrible to judge someone on giving their kid an unusual name, as long as it's not a direct spin off of something horrible, like an STD or a famous war criminal.

Edit: Topic name and this post were amended because it was pointed out to me that I was being extremely rude and judgmental towards the parents. Apologies to anyone who was offended.
Ech, don't bow to the peer pressure dude, you had a right to express your opinion about these retards and frankly your original thread title was perfectly accurate. You can't go through life without offending anyone. If you do, it just means you never stood up for anything. =)
