Eh. More or less.

I can respect their overall goal, which is to treat animals well. But how they pursue it... thats a little questionable.
That is not their goal its Total animal liberation. No pets, no farms, no medical research, no service animals, no zoos.

Wow really? Did not know that. I tend to avoid anything PETA. Mainly because of reasons already listed in this thread.

Even when they kill animals?
Even when they support firebombing of science facilities?
Even when they use the medical research they fight against?
Like I said. I respect the overall goal of treating animals better. Not how they go about said goal.

I wish intead of going after video games and movies they would, you know HELP ACTUAL ANIMALS! I guess they would rather everyone think they are just a bunch of crazy eco terrorists rather than respectable activists. Thats why Peta sucks.

PETA is a bunch of hypocritical twats. They try too hard to guilt people and they always take an opportunity to beat around the fact that most of the animals they "save" are later killed by so called "Humane methods" I.E. lethal injection, which is supposed to be painful as opposed to popular belief.

Fuck I hate PETA

Fuck PETA, bunch of morons. Don't forget to mention that PETA kills a shit-ton of furry little animals themselves every year, hypocrites.

So, because you disagree what is essentially PeTA's awareness campaign against weaponizing animals, you're going to go to KFC, which is an unrelated issue that PeTA also happens to campaign against. The fact is, the social reality of the situations PeTA campaigns against have nothing to do with what you think of PeTA.

Furthermore, PeTA can't be blamed for your irrational actions. PeTA isn't making you go to KFC, you are.

Enjoy your greasy meat, I guess.

Oh, yeah... I'll sue Bones for their dog fighting episode, they showed rottweilers as blood-thirsty monsters!! My dog cried all night after seeing this... slander!!

Also because she cries a lot. What can I say - everyone knows that big, black/light-brown 35kg defensive dog is very emotional.

Oh, oh, on topic? Lol PETA.

Yeah pretty much.
For example: PETA always bitches whenever any humane society is forced to euthanize an animal (after exhausting all other options), whilst PETA euthanizes over 2/3 of the animals it brings in (without even looking for other options).
I wonder what it will be like in the future when there are too many people in the world.

Will there be a PETH when they have to put down all the kids we won't be able to feed due to world over-population? Or will it be more like Logans Run?

Maybe it's because PeTA's more concerned with animal suffering than it is with "oh my gosh, animals are so fluffy and cute!"? PeTA stands for People for Ethical Treatment of Animals. Euthanasia of animals that won't be adopted, can't be released into the wild, and will only continue to suffer is not inconsistent with PeTA's ethical views. It's not so much hypocrisy as you misunderstanding their prime concern.

Besides, Ad Hominem Tu Quoque [http://www.nizkor.org/features/fallacies/ad-hominem-tu-quoque.html]. Irrelevant (alleged) hypocrisy does not invalidate arguments someone makes.

It's a social issue that they're addressing by voicing their side. There's nothing wrong with what PeTA's doing here. Pointing to other things PeTA has done (which you're probably misunderstanding anyways) is just a case of Ad Hominem Tu Quoque [http://www.nizkor.org/features/fallacies/ad-hominem-tu-quoque.html].

Who they are doesn't automatically delegitimize what they say.
No, but the Appeal to Pity [http://www.nizkor.org/features/fallacies/burden-of-proof.html].

How many animated photorealistic rats, dogs and boars have you killed in various video games? I developed a deep loathing for the dogs in the first Modern Warfare. Yet I have managed not to kill any dogs in the real world, nor do I have any desire to cause harm to them, even when they do their business on my property. (Owners who don't poop-and-scoop, on the other hand...) I don't hold this up as empirical evidence, but I suspect a broad-based study wouldn't link simulated violence towards non-existent animals in interactive entertainment to actual violence against the real thing--just like killing tonnes of dudes in FPSes hasn't produced legions of real-world spree-killers.

Wow hostility

I was joking about kfc but i still think that peta is a bunch of batshit hypocritical crazies.
When an organization protests the euthanization of animals and then turns around and does it themselves no one will ever take them seriously again except for the few who are stupid.

I think you misunderstand what PeTA's trying to do. As I've already said, what they're doing isn't an attempt to shut down Mafia Wars because they think the game's going to cause animal violence. Mafia Wars' introduction of combat animals is appropriate for PeTA because it's a popular online game, and people who play the game will notice these kinds of headlines, and PeTA's got free publicity. This isn't about censoring Mafia Wars, it's about PeTA using the media coverage as a platform to talk about "bully breeds." It's smart activism, not ignorant censorship as you're mistaking it to be.

As an aside, appeal to pity is not a fallacy if it's relevant, such as the ethical case for extending empathy to animals with the capacity to suffer. It's only a fallacy in a situation like, "I deserve tenure because I'm sick and my wife left me."

Right... you don't care about having intelligent humans fight in this imaginary world, but as soon as someone mentions a harmless, helpless little bulldog you take offence?

PETA, stick to rescuing animals that have been abused, not trying to turn animals into babies.

Haha. Me? Hostile?

Your response to PeTA's campaign is "I'm going to eat a shitload of KFC to spite those crazies." (I'm paraphrasing.) I just pointed out that your course of action would be both irrational and irrelevant to the issue.

No hostility from me. Pity, maybe.

This is a game based around killing human beings for profit, and they are concerned that there are going to be animals killed in it?

I'm a vegetarian, and support no-kill shelters and such, but PETA simply confounds me in every possible way. Also, they kill more animals in their kill shelters than they even dream about saving every year, so they are hypocrites as well.

I always enjoy Penn & Teller: Bullshit! and this episode in particular is a lot of fun. Calls out a bunch of the hypocrisy of the group, but doesn't come across as too preachy or up its own ass. The group's idea that animals should be treated fairly is noble, but the attitude and actions aren't acceptable.
