HA! Molyneux's a funny guy, Natal is going to fail; it's a feeling i've got, always trust your feelings and the way of the force shall guide you

Umm... how is Project Natal any different from the PS2 Eyetoy?
And given how horribly wrong the Eyetoy went... why does anyone think Project Natal, which does the exact same thing as the eyetoy, will do any better?

Honestly...
But I will agree with Peter on one thing: the mouse was an important invention.

Molyneux still doesn't seem to get it: waxing excited about your own product is all well and good, but people aren't going to buy into the hype unless it starts getting that kind of respect from sources who don't have huge personal investments in its success. with his reputation as it is, I find myself wondering what the media response would be if he started a project like Natal and kept fairly quiet about it.

I guess Molyneux figures if he makes enough absurd and grandiose claims that eventually one of them will come true.

Come on now, everybody, he's got a point. It's true that the mouse changed the way we use computers. You spoiled bastards have never been forced to work in a command line environment exclusively so you don't know what a pain in the ass computers used to be, let alone how limited the games were. The Natal does have lots of potential, although there's an equal chance of it succeeding as there is of it failing. And whether or not the Natal will eventually offer us anything of worth will ultimately be up to the creative minds of developers.

Peter Molyneux, on the other hand, should focus his efforts on his true passion and develop the Molyneux Everlasting Hyperbole Machine: based on a design by Willy Wonka, this green machine runs on the dreams of fanboys and outputs a constant stream of heightened expectations followed by harrowing disappointment.
Haha this was a brilliant speech.

I agree with you on the point that Natal has a great premise and that if it really delivers, could change the face of motion sensor technology.

But also laugh at the fact that Mr Molyneux is an oxymoron in its purest form.

I think the Natal is going to be awesome, and we'll all say "Aww we where wrong to make fun of Peter Molyneux. He knew exactly what he was talking about; unlike all those other times".
I agree with you. Let's see how 'great' the big new thing will be.

Molyneux is a revolutionary in the game industry, who likes to try new things and think outside the box. While I'm not a big fan of his work, that's much more than I can say about 90% of developers. His only fault is that he becomes way too excited in new ideas being brought into the industry. He brings the public's hopes up when they are first introduced to him and they come to expect too much. With that comes an unsavoury mark on anything he praises, putting consumer doubt in anything he trusts. It really is unfortunate, he's a nice enough guy, and he actually has set a few new ideas into work in the industry, but he's just so addicted to exaggeration that he "spoils" products for many gamers.

DUDE You're on the wrong thread, you should be on this one with that post http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.173823-What-is-the-least-used-sentence-in-the-English-language ....

OT: I stopped believing in Molyneux a long time ago and I don't even own a 360 so natal can suck it. All it will be is a fad....I hope this whole "motion sensor" thing is just a fad and will die off until fully functional VR comes out and I can BE Gordon Freeman

You can only use Natal up to a point. Like if your console area, like mine, is less that 4 square meters. Then, using Natal, you have to run a mile from a huge space creature, in your own home, using the ACTUAL MILE YOU HAVE IN YOUR HOUSE IN FRONT OF THE TV.

It doesn't work like that.

(Oh, there's a reason Sony isn't doing what Microsoft is doing. Cue: Peter's hype advertising. Plus if Motion Controllers are a flop, Sony didn't spend 15 billioncazillion dollars to advertise it.)

This man is one of the strangest man of our time...

I did read somewhere (I believe Wikipedia) saying that one thing that Molyneux constantly does is spout things like this, overhyping things, apperantly he said that Fable would bring in the next generation of RPGs, which we all know it didn't (it just taught us that the best way to make money is to hide behind a wall, steal an object, sell it back, and repeat). I missed the E3 Microsoft conference in '09, so I haven't heard that much about Natal and don't really give a thought to it. The Wii works because it's A)Nintendo, and B)Because we have the PS3 and X360 as a juxtoposition for the modern gaming. As Yahtzee says in his E3 video, "people play video games to unwind, and no one unwinds by waving their arms like an air traffic controller covered in beatles."

After reading the Fable 3 will upset some people, I'm starting to enjoy hearing what Molyneux will spurt about next, like he's that smelly kid in class who eats paste, but will say some funny lines every so often, that is why he isn't in the nurse's office getting his mouth unstuck or spending the rest of his time in his mind driving a garbage truck.

I really hope the men in white jackets come and take Molyneux to where he belongs...

Which is an insane asylum 5000 feet below in the middle of nowhere.

For the hundreth time. I will believe it when i see and play it with my own eyes..and hands..or feet.. or whatever i have to move to work the damn thing.

OT: People do enough stupid things to themselves and others, physcially and or criminally as is and blame them on videogames. Imagine the meathead ass-peg darwin award winning stories that will come along with project NATAL. I can't wait. ^_^

THIS JUST IN: Experts say Natal is biggest invention since fire, wheel. News at 11.

Now of course he's making himself a huge target of mockery and jokes (such as the one above), but you have to admit there's some sense in what he's saying. Given time (I'd say about 8-10 years at least) full-body motion control like the Natal (developed further, obviously) would offer a huge variety of new opportunities, and it wouldn't be that much of a stretch to say that in 20-30 years, it'll be one of the standard input choices, besides mouse&keyboard and console controller.

Of course it could just as easily go down in history as yet another overhyped gadget that failed to attract any attention outside of a 30-foot radius around Peter Molyneux.
