But... but, the nurses don't belong in a Silent Hill film unless the main character is James Sunderland.

The same goes for Pyramid Head if he happens to make an appearance (which you know he will).
To be fair, there were a ton of those nurses in the third game as well, just not quite as...uhm, well endowed. As far as Pyramid Head is concerned, yeah, he has no place in this movie. I guess the reason for his inclusion (IMDB says he's in it) is 1) fanservice (why the hell are Silent Hill fans so fond of the violent rape-enthusiastic manifestation of a batshit insane murderer's conscience?), and 2) serving as a genuinely menacing adversary. I guess Valtiel didn't cut it, but damnit he was creepy...

Something that really bugs me is the 3D though. The horror of the Silent Hill series is always due to the experiences of the protagonist, and I think drawing the audience's attention away from Heather by having something "pop out" of the screen won't help with that...

"Silent Hill 3D"? Come on. That's just silly.
It'll be super realistic! If you sit in the back row at the theater, you won't be able to see the screen because of the draw distance.

Okay, I have to ask... what's a good Malcolm McDowell movie??

EDIT: Besides Clockwork Orange... preferably a movie of the last 30 years.
Caligula?
...
Well I though it was fun. :(

Anyway, the nurses and pyramid head made sense in the last movie - PH was an executioner, and Alessa was executed as a witch, while the nurses were her caretakers at the burn unit whom she envied for their beauty. It's a bit of fan-pandering, yes, but it remains consistent with the whole "Silent Hill creates monsters from your subconsciousness" established with James Sunderland.

Wait, didn't the last Silent Hill movie end by giving a wink and a nudge towards a sequel for that set of characters?
In terms of new faces, Carrie Anne Moss, probably best known for playing Trinity in the Matrix movies, will play cult leader Claudia Wolf, who - as you can see from the pictures - has a certain fondness for wearing white.
Oh my god, they're going to kill Trinity!!

...AGAIN!!!

Oh god, it has to have Trinity in it? All interest generated by Malcom McDowell being in this movie has just been stomped into the dust and spat on.

^ This here.

They really need to remember that the monsters are the personal demons of the people who enter into Silent Hill and unless James is roaming around then CUT THE CRAP!

Goddamn movies always relying on sex appeal as a f*cking crutch and can't let the horror of their monsters be a stand alone feature that can lure the audience in.

F*CK ALL!!!!

Noob Saibot does not approve of your bullshit!

GOD DAMMIT you just HAD to bring up THAT movie.....*Sigh* I think that was one of the biggest mindf*cks I've ever gotten out of a movie....literally. Honestly Cinema Snob hit the nail on the head with his review of that and I just felt so evil and dirty after watching it.

Uh...? Nurses have been in just about every single Silent Hill. Even the first, though they looked different. What makes James (and his nurses) so special?

I'm so incredibly excited for this movie. I really hope Pyramid Head doesn't make a guest appearance, though. It's really killing his impact for when there's a movie based on Silent Hill 2.

Edit: I'm seeing a lot of people decry the inclusion of nurses. And stuff about James. Are you kidding me? They've been in every fucking game. Every incarnation of the nurse is different, they're all special to their specific games. James's Bubble Head nurses aren't anymore special than Alessa's Puppet Nurses or Walter's Patients. Yeah, the movies are using the Bubble Head model a little more than they should, but they're kind of iconic, you know? Easily recognizable and whatnot.

Is it just me, or does the statue in the last picture look like Valtiel? Does this mean we'll see him in here as a monster? All right, I mean while Pyramid Head didn't belong in the last movie, at least Valtiel matches with the character here.

YES! im not going to lie, the first was actually one of my favourite horror films ever because i felt it had such a brilliant atmosphere. having never played silent hills at all though i think i wasn't tainted by already being a fan boy.
I feel exactly the same. I've never been a huge fan of the games, I haven't played any and only have a passing interest in the plot and world because of it's premise, so I watched the first Silent Hill film with no expectations and was thoroughly impressed.

I thought it was a solid and atmospheric film irrespective of it's video game roots, and since I had very little idea how it compared or deviated from the games, I could thoroughly enjoy and judge it as a separate entity on it's own merits.

I have similar views on the Resident Evil films, I enjoyed them despite not being a fan of the games, or perhaps because I'm not a fan of the games, although I didn't think too highly of the Hitman film because I couldn't judge it on it's own and Timothy Olyphant didn't match my ideal of 47... I'd have enjoyed it a lot more if they'd cast David Bateson, the voice and face of 47, as 47.

yeah im with you on resident evil as well actually, i couldn't stand the games but i love the films even though they are just pointless fun zombie films. agian i wasn't a fan of hitman, but i didn't like the games either (i suck at them, don't judge me too much), i think the film was just like trying to be a cleaner XXX or a sophisticated bourne film and just ended up abit rubbish...

I just looked at his filmography and...yeah, he hasn't done much good lately, has he?
I know you said recently, but the only two besides Clockwork Orange that I can vouch for are If...(that's the title, complete with ellipses) and
O Lucky Man. Both are British movies from the late 60s and early 70s, respectively.

As for the new Silent Hill movie...I actually saw the first one before playing the fist two games and was surprised by how much I liked it. Had I played the games first, I would have been harsher with it, but I still think a lot of care was put into that movie insofar as creating the world and its inhabitants. I'll see the new one as a fan and try to make the best of it.

If I'm not mistaken, it's still Brad's favourite movie of all time. It's just that his Snob persona compels him to criticize everything. And yeah, it's a SPECTACULAR mindfuck, and worth a look if only for the holy-shit factor. :D

But indeed, lately I've only seen McDowell playing the villain low-budget horror movies. I wonder how this will turn out.

Malcolm McDowell and Sean Bean...

The only two reasons I'd actually pay to see the sequel.

The "3D" in the title already made me skeptical. Then I checked the movie out on IMDB, and saw that it's being written and directed by Michael J. Bassett, the guy who made Solomon Kane, and what little hope I had for this movie being good died.

I suppose I would give this film a go despite it's going to be 3D since I think the first film is pretty good for a film adaption on a video game.

Yep, it's him. The red gloves with fused fingers except for the thumb and pinky finger are a dead giveaway. Though he seems a bit bigger, no?
