I would have suggested forming a user group myself, or going with the 'ignore people who are being irritating' route. I only vaguely remember you as the person with a mildly unusual name and the pony avatar, but that indicates that I probably haven't taken offence to much you've said up to now. After checking some of that Touhou thread, the only thing I could criticize in the OP was the fact that it was too huge an info dump for me to actually focus and read it all, despite the game looking mildly interesting. This thread looks like it will probably turn nasty, if only because you just sort of generalized and insulted an entire community, which doesn't usually go well.

Still, while I'd like to suggest somewhere nice to go, this is really the only forum I frequent. Apologies. If you do leave, I wish you the best.

I'm going to be one of those people who say that I have honestly never had an issue with any of your posts and actually quite enjoy a large majority of what you've had to write. Regardless of whether or not you find a new gaming community, I hope you find whatever it is you're looking for.
I am also one of this people. I'm honestly a little confused as to why your threads rustle so many jimmies. Dudes here can sometimes be a little thin-skinned when encountering difference of opinion, maybe.
Thirded. I really don't get why people seem to have such a problem with you. Sure, you're a little "abrasive" sometimes, but we can't all be softly spoken gentlemen, and I've yet to see you say anything actually offensive. Plus there are many, many others who are far more aggressive than you who seem to be popular here. I guess you just get angry about the "wrong" stuff. And you're a feminist. Lord knows a vocal minority here seem to think that's a dirty word.

Don't go Lilith, I'll miss you :'(
Fourth...ed?

People don't have a problem with you Lillith, you just seem to take everything either too personally or too seriously. Don't try so hard. Don't shove what you like into peoples faces if they've got no interest. Really, after the way that Minecraft thread went, you should've known that the Touhou thread would gone down the same road.

I'm not saying it's bad for you to wanna spread the word of something you like but if someone was to look at the Touhou thread you made then they'd think you were being a bit......forceful about it.

You're not wrong in saying that your tastes in games are pretty different to a lot of people around here, since you seem to have a preference for Japanese games, but there are still quite a few people here who enjoy those games. In fact I personally had barely played any eastern games at all until I came to this site and heard about some that interested me. Therefore I don't think it's just a difference in gaming taste that's the issue.

What the issue is however, I don't know, as you were seriously attacked in that Touhou thread for no immediately apparent reason, and this thread isn't much better. I also saw the posts you made about Touhou before that thread, and I don't think you said anything particularly wrong there either. I just don't get it, a number of users on this forum seems to be up in arms against you, so maybe it would be better to go somewhere else, if you want to avoid that.

The only ones I can think of right now are the Destructiod forums, Penny arcade, and Reddit. I don't think any of them are specifically geared towards the games you like, but they're large enough that I'm pretty certain there will be like-minded people there.

So please please help me. Help me say goodbye to the Escapist, and hello to greener pastures. And thank you for your time.
First things first:

You are being silly. You've had a rough couple of weeks on the forums letting yourself get wrapped up in flame wars, and we all know how (inexplicably) draining arguing with strangers on the internet over inconsequential subjects can be. I'm not even being sarcastic, it's terribly stressful. It boggles the mind that so many of us will do it willingly.

There's a couple of issues with fleeing for greener pastures.

1. This is actually a pretty high traffic/well moderated board. The moderation is key. You think the tone in here is hostile? It would be fucking jungle noises and chaos if the moderators were even a little bit more lax.

2. Going elsewhere solves nothing if part of the problem is you. This is not a personal attack, but rather an entreaty to consider whether or not your own inability to avoid engaging is creating these uncomfortable situations. I can be an argumentative prick, and I'm my own worst enemy when it comes to getting into rows on the internet.

Now I can understand that you might be finding most of the discussion here is on topics that don't interest you, and the topics that do interest you don't garner a lot of attention. Lord knows I'll start a thread from time to time I think is interesting only to have it skid off the front page in 13 seconds, but such is life. No one likes to think they're Tom Hanks screaming at Wilson when they put their thoughts on the internet, but you can't force relative strangers to engage with you in conversation.

With over 2000 posts in these forums though it WOULD seem like you found at least SOME things to talk about here. I've certainly enjoyed some of your posts. I sent you a friend request for a reason, yeah? I don't think you're nearly as notorious, or these boards nearly as alienating as they might seem AT THIS MOMENT, fresh out of a couple of blazing arguments. Arguments that you had a hand in provoking, if we're all being honest with one another. You provocateur, you.

Anyway. Take a deep breath. Exhale. I am not trying to invalidate your feelings, just attempting to put them in perspective for you. At the end of the day this is just a forum and if it's not rewarding for you to post here there's really no reason to stay. But by the same token there's really no reason to make a show of storming out, either. You don't pay rent here, and there's nothing to stop you from visiting less frequently, or picking your spots better, or posting on TWO forums. I enjoy that you bring an atypical perspective to some of the discussion in here. No one wants a uniform forum population where we all agree on everything and just sit in a loose circle wanking one another off and reinforcing our biases. What the fuck is the point of that?

Anyway I am clearly rambling at this point. There's my two cents, for whatever they're worth.

Might I suggest the Zeel route?

1. Find something to rage on about Touhou seems a good fit for you 'til you get banned.
2. Once banned, move to another forum and start again.
3. ???
4. Profit.

Stick around. I like the diversity of the Escapist forums, and the fact that almost any game genre is likely to have at least a few afficionados. It stops the forumites getting too narrow and insular and filled with self reinforcing dogmatism about what is good and what is bad.

I have 3 general rules for forum participation:

1. If a topic asks "What do you think about X?" and I don't like 'X' I might post in it to say why I don't like it.

2. If a topic asks "What is your favourite part of X?" and I don't like 'X' then I won't post in it.* That's a fan thread and I'm not a fan.

[sub]*unless I think of something which I think is hilarious or terribly incisive. Not saying it will be either of those, but eh... sometimes my internal editor takes the day off...[/sub]

3. If I get into a discussion/debate about something and it gets to the stage that I'm either endlessly repeating myself to no end, or the only direct response I can think of is "Well fuck you too" then it's time to bow out of the thread. It's a discussion board, not Thunderdome, so it's not like I can 'lose' the thread.

I dunno, I quite like this forum. Yeah the moderators are a bit strict so you don't have the joy of the internet red in tooth and claw; posters tearing strips off of each other till they're using the ragged stumps of their limbs to post pictures of down syndrome porn but there are fun people here.

Then again I'm new. Still a 30y/o white male looking for bantering partner to share jokes about British imperalism, velociraptors and maybe more but it takes time to build up to that kind of thing. Afterall, you can't slip the entire internet a roofie. There are too many timezones.

*snip* a lot of people here don't like Jrpgs or Nintendo games just because Yathzee hates them and they consider him some kind of god and are willing to agree to anything he says. *snip*
Which is ironic since Yahtzee has never actually said that Nintendo are terrible developers or that every game they ever release is shit because they're Japanese or Nintendo, indeed, he quite liked Super Paper Mario and Super Mario Galaxy. Yes, he loathed FFXIII or whatever number it was, but he's also loathed most of the -western- RPGs he played. But mostly, he rags on Nintendo for over-reusing the same characters and settings, and in fairness, they do have extremely long-running franchises whose major players are probably overdue for drawing their pensions. Surely it's time to step away from recycling Mario and Co., just as much as it might time for EA to think about maybe, maybe just maybe, moving on from Call of Duty.

Even a simple name change would be a start: why not have a game where you play as Mario's son? Or Link's.

Furthermore; a lot of people just don't like JRPGs. A lot of people -do- and both camps tend to be equally vocal in their opinions on the other. Mr. Croshaw just happens to provide a convenient figurehead whose dislike of JRPGs tends to be held up as a banner by the former.

In a direct response to the OP: the best way of dealing with this is probably to not post here for a bit; get some distance from things, communicate with people you like or are friends with IMs and whatnot. Oh, and never refer to yourself as "notorious." It just makes people roll their eyes and imagine you measuring your internet fame meter; like those people who are actually proud of having a page on ED. Which renders any claims to wishing to avoid melodrama moot. In short: relax and learn to simply post and only respond when there's a genuine dialogue to be had. OR when you can wring a laugh out of a short, witty rejoinder.

I find turning off the notifications of folk quoting you really helps to remove the urge to continue arguments and helps you to just poast and depart, like a thief in the night, flinging up terrible posts and fleeing with nary a care in the world.

As much as I'm rather wary in the passive aggressiveness in your posts, I don't want you to go. As nice as this forum is in comparison to most of the net, it still has quite the... clientele. My advice? Grow thicker skin, and I'm not saying this in a condescending way.

These forums can be very aggressive in their beliefs. Get over the fact that not everybody share the same opinions and the fact that they can be vehement in defending their own, and you will have a good time in a community of good people.

So, lose the rather aggressive tone in your posts, try not to take any flak from the community too seriously and tell yourself that not every has the same opinions and knowledge as you.(Especially with touhou where either a person knows absolutely nothing about it or sees it everywhere he goes) If you can, look up posts by Zeel to learn how NOT to post. And if you wanna talk about touhou, join the touhou group on the site. I'll give you the link if you like.

So yea, stay just a little while longer before you decide if you wanna go. We need more regular posters with knowledge of Touhou

Perhaps stop being such a dick? That would be what I suggest at the basic level of human interaction.

Otherwise just hit Google.

...asking for help on where to flee from the very forum one is fleeing seems rather counter productive.

If you believe that enough people will answer to make a thread worthwhile, then I suggest staying for their sake, or if nothing else for the sake of logical consistency.

Also, the point of discussion is not to unthinkingly affirm each other on how awesome something is, it is to get to know the strengths and weaknesses of it, to whom it appeals and why it does so, and to hear out valid criticism on it in order to learn more on it. The only proper way to love something is to be able to acknowledge its every flaw and limitation, and then still say that to you the pros heavily outweigh the cons.
