Stick around. I like the diversity of the Escapist forums, and the fact that almost any game genre is likely to have at least a few afficionados. It stops the forumites getting too narrow and insular and filled with self reinforcing dogmatism about what is good and what is bad.

I have 3 general rules for forum participation:

1. If a topic asks "What do you think about X?" and I don't like 'X' I might post in it to say why I don't like it.

2. If a topic asks "What is your favourite part of X?" and I don't like 'X' then I won't post in it.* That's a fan thread and I'm not a fan.

[sub]*unless I think of something which I think is hilarious or terribly incisive. Not saying it will be either of those, but eh... sometimes my internal editor takes the day off...[/sub]

3. If I get into a discussion/debate about something and it gets to the stage that I'm either endlessly repeating myself to no end, or the only direct response I can think of is "Well fuck you too" then it's time to bow out of the thread. It's a discussion board, not Thunderdome, so it's not like I can 'lose' the thread.

I dunno, your list sounds like the stuff they talk about on the Deviantart gaming forum. Hope you like 13 year olds, though.

I dunno, I quite like this forum. Yeah the moderators are a bit strict so you don't have the joy of the internet red in tooth and claw; posters tearing strips off of each other till they're using the ragged stumps of their limbs to post pictures of down syndrome porn but there are fun people here.

Then again I'm new. Still a 30y/o white male looking for bantering partner to share jokes about British imperalism, velociraptors and maybe more but it takes time to build up to that kind of thing. Afterall, you can't slip the entire internet a roofie. There are too many timezones.

The Floating Nose said:
*snip* a lot of people here don't like Jrpgs or Nintendo games just because Yathzee hates them and they consider him some kind of god and are willing to agree to anything he says. *snip*
Which is ironic since Yahtzee has never actually said that Nintendo are terrible developers or that every game they ever release is shit because they're Japanese or Nintendo, indeed, he quite liked Super Paper Mario and Super Mario Galaxy. Yes, he loathed FFXIII or whatever number it was, but he's also loathed most of the -western- RPGs he played. But mostly, he rags on Nintendo for over-reusing the same characters and settings, and in fairness, they do have extremely long-running franchises whose major players are probably overdue for drawing their pensions. Surely it's time to step away from recycling Mario and Co., just as much as it might time for EA to think about maybe, maybe just maybe, moving on from Call of Duty.

Even a simple name change would be a start: why not have a game where you play as Mario's son? Or Link's.

Furthermore; a lot of people just don't like JRPGs. A lot of people -do- and both camps tend to be equally vocal in their opinions on the other. Mr. Croshaw just happens to provide a convenient figurehead whose dislike of JRPGs tends to be held up as a banner by the former.

In a direct response to the OP: the best way of dealing with this is probably to not post here for a bit; get some distance from things, communicate with people you like or are friends with IMs and whatnot. Oh, and never refer to yourself as "notorious." It just makes people roll their eyes and imagine you measuring your internet fame meter; like those people who are actually proud of having a page on ED. Which renders any claims to wishing to avoid melodrama moot. In short: relax and learn to simply post and only respond when there's a genuine dialogue to be had. OR when you can wring a laugh out of a short, witty rejoinder.

I find turning off the notifications of folk quoting you really helps to remove the urge to continue arguments and helps you to just poast and depart, like a thief in the night, flinging up terrible posts and fleeing with nary a care in the world.

As much as I'm rather wary in the passive aggressiveness in your posts, I don't want you to go. As nice as this forum is in comparison to most of the net, it still has quite the... clientele. My advice? Grow thicker skin, and I'm not saying this in a condescending way.

These forums can be very aggressive in their beliefs. Get over the fact that not everybody share the same opinions and the fact that they can be vehement in defending their own, and you will have a good time in a community of good people.

So, lose the rather aggressive tone in your posts, try not to take any flak from the community too seriously and tell yourself that not every has the same opinions and knowledge as you.(Especially with touhou where either a person knows absolutely nothing about it or sees it everywhere he goes) If you can, look up posts by Zeel to learn how NOT to post. And if you wanna talk about touhou, join the touhou group on the site. I'll give you the link if you like.

So yea, stay just a little while longer before you decide if you wanna go. We need more regular posters with knowledge of Touhou

Perhaps stop being such a dick? That would be what I suggest at the basic level of human interaction.

Otherwise just hit Google.

...asking for help on where to flee from the very forum one is fleeing seems rather counter productive.

If you believe that enough people will answer to make a thread worthwhile, then I suggest staying for their sake, or if nothing else for the sake of logical consistency.

Also, the point of discussion is not to unthinkingly affirm each other on how awesome something is, it is to get to know the strengths and weaknesses of it, to whom it appeals and why it does so, and to hear out valid criticism on it in order to learn more on it. The only proper way to love something is to be able to acknowledge its every flaw and limitation, and then still say that to you the pros heavily outweigh the cons.

You are completely missing the point. Its not that we dont like you, its just that we dont like what you say since most of the times you post something its to bash the games that you dont like. Get it? Just dont bash games that other people like and you will be fine.

You usually post things along the lines of:

"I like this and if you dont you are an idiot"

or

"This thing that I like is much better then that (multiple adjectives insulting the game) that you like"

Don't go. Ignore the haters, a good number of which have already posted (not going to name any names, but it's obvious who you are). But more importantly, don't ignore the people who have given advice on how to interact with the forum.

Even if the advice is a little harsh, a lot of it would be great to follow for future endeavors here.

There's plenty of people here who enjoy the same things you enjoy. You might have to narrow where and when you post to avoid the jerks, but there's plenty of people around that share the same interests. You've just got to look a little harder past the initial impression of this forum that says all Japanese games suck, and that they recycle the same gameplay, story, whatever, BS argument #288596.

And if you really do go, then good luck with your future. It's honestly sad for me to see a forum community alienate someone completely just because of what they like.

How to rewrite the OP in a way that isn't going to antagonise half the people who read it, without removing important content.

LilithSlave said:
Hey guys,

I was wondering if you could help me. I'm looking for other gaming sites where there are more posters with similar tastes to me e.g. *insert shortlist of favourites here*

Thanks.
You are exposing your writing to very large numbers of people who have absolutely no reason not to speak their minds. Someone earlier in the thread linked some of your previous posts, go read some of your replies and try to do so without mentally adding whatever tone you intended. Irrespective of how other people react in reply your posts are brimming with cues that are inevitably going to cause people to react negatively. If you don't want people to react badly, remove them.

To be honest I kinda miss Zeel I mean he was a complete asshole but he livened things up a bit. Plus he got the rest of us united together for a common cause(Disagreeing with him) all on his own which is an achievement in its self.

I would have recommended the GameFAQs boards since they have a big community like the Escapist but...

1. Some boards are flat out dead
2. The mods are retards sometimes. I have stories.
3. Some of the community there is filled with retards and trolls. Case in point, The Halo 4 board. (*WAHHHH* Call of Duty!!! *WAAHHHH*)

It's really hard to find a good gaming community to join these days. If you find a good one, please let me know.
Serious suggestion, I'm seconding this. I'm pretty sure I've seen every last one of the games Lilith mentioned in her OP gushed about over there, whether it's in their specific board, in the board of the systems that they're on, or in the board for the genre they fit into (SHMUPS, Fighters, etc.)

Also, Lilith, we don't hate the games with a passion. I've played and enjoyed a good chunk of the stuff on the list. What gets old is the way you flip out at the slightest thing. I would say offense, but that's the point: you take offense when there should be none. I'm not saying you need to leave here, I am saying if you want to fit in /anywhere/ on the internet, you need to grow a thicker skin.

OP don't listen to these idiots, they just don't recognise your genius like I do, I say ditch them and come with me. You're lucky I saw this thread OP, not many people outside SA get to hear my awesome advice. Speaking of SA I'd reccomend you check out the SOMETHINGAWFUL DOT COM forums, I feel like you'd fit right in there. Now, I'm going to give you some advice for establishing yourself as a posting superstar. My advice will also help you not immediately go and waste your :tenbux:.

Now, since you like games you might think of going into their Games forum for your first post, this is a terrible idea. First, buy a My Little Pony avatar, these are very popular on SA and will give the impression you're a cool guy. Then what you need to do is make a thread in E/N about how much your life sucks and how even anonymous people on the internet hate you, make sure the post is as melodramatic as possible (and link to this thread). Now half the people responding are gonna be making fun of you and the other half is gonna recommend you break up with your dog and get therapy, whatever you do don't listen to them. All this may seem bad but things are going exactly as planned. Continue making melodramatic posts ignoring the advice, ideally culminating in a massive meltdown.

Hopefully a mod or admin notices your terrible thread and attempts to make it not terrible by giving you a mod challenge, this is the opportunity you've been waiting for. Do your mod challange, FAST, don't want anyone beating you to the punch and deciding a fitting punishment is permabanning. If someone does beat you to it DON'T PANIC all you need to do is do it better than them and hopefully the mod is mercyful.

Ok, so you've done your mod challenge. Your MLP avatar is now replaced with a photoshop of the same picture, now with added phallus, and you've got some text under it saying something like "Touhou, Touhou, can't fucking shut up about Touhou. Also I'm a big god damn idiot who literally thinks my problems are literally bigger than those of a literal war orphan. LITERALLY. I do complete my mod challanges though" in big red text. One more thing you've gained from this is the My Little Anime Meat Shoes (in this example your challenge was to create a new version of the Hulk Hogan Meat Shoes http://www.somethingawful.com/d/comedy-goldmine/hulk-hogan-meatshoes.php more fit for the modern goon. Because sadly Hulk Hogan isn't as relevant now as when the Meat Shoes were new) you made for your mod challenge.

Haha, but no seriously, spend your ten bucks to register at the best god damn forum of all time (sorry escapiststersstur but it's true), lurk untill you get the feel of how people post there and read the rules (tl;dr don't post like an idiot, this includes going into a thread and posting something like "this sucks" and then leaving AKA shitposting, unless you wanna bet 10 dollars that you're really funny).

OP, I haven't read any of your posts besides this thread but, to me it sounds like you like long posts and Touhou so i found this for you: http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3485123 I have no idea if you can read this if you're not registered (my dear friend Richard may have closed the forums to unregistered users) but it's the current Touhou megathread (nr 5 apparantly). It seems kinda recent so you don't have to read 200 pages of stupid shit before posting, I know nothing about Touhou so this thread may be terrible for all i know. Speaking of hundreds of pages of stupid shit, i saw some SRW games in your "games I like" list so here is the current SRW megathread: http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=2960340 SRW owns by the way, so your taste in games isn't completely terrible. Also, feminism: http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3479721 hope you like words.

Also let me recommend some subforums for you: Games obviously, and it seems you like japanese games and cartoons so you probably like japanese cartoons (you may have heard about it it's called amnimen or some shit) I'd recommend ADTRW (Anime Death Tentacle Rape Whorehouse).

Some of you might have reservations against paying for a forum, and that's understandable, especially with SA's... colorful history and strict moderation (you thought the escapist mods were bad HA). But its still one of the biggest forums, so you will probably find SOMETHING you like and the fact that you have to pay to use the forums keeps kids and people who don't want to put effort into their posts away, basicly means SA has a smaller population of idiots than the most places on the internet.
