Why Does any mmo released now has to kill off wow?

Is that the only measure of success to be a completely dominant no competition monopoly.

If Aion gets around 1million users in western audiences it should be seen as a success.

An mmo to be asuccess it must have enough players that are paying subscriptions for it to be profitable.

Or in another direction was Guild Wars a failure?

It certainly didnt kill off wow but it was succesful enough to warrant 3-4 expansion packs and made alot of money.

No it will not kill off wow nor should it there should be competition in the mmo game market otherwise consumers will be left with one option that the company in question will not need to update asthere will be no other option.

Finally i dont rate aion at all warhammer online is a much better game for western audiences and it is doing very poorly in europe. So i think it will do well initially then it will die off we need to wait 6months to 1 year after release to see how an mmo holds up.

The only thing that can kill WoW is its own degration of its quality buy making a retarted expansion or patch that imbalances the game.
this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corrupted_Blood_incident
or a whole new genre (MMOFPS).

Nothing will kill WoW, not even another Blizzard product. Diablo III? Are you kidding me? Thats not even an MMO so automatically gets chopped as a "WoW killer". A new Blizzard MMO cannot kill the monster that is WoW (unless its WoW2 of course).

No MMO will kill WoW. WoW will kill itself. Think of WoW has one of the many large empires that have been around. They are unstoppable, but eventually they collapse in on themselves. If a company can get even 1/4 the success WoW has, then that company is a great success.

There will be no game that will kill WoW. WoW will kill itself. That being said, I do plan on playing Aion. I was in a few of the beta weekends and enjoyed myself so I plan to play it for awhile.

So aion online has been called the "killer of WoW" in for many reasons. I've played both and personally i think Aion could pull it off. I really dont care if Aion is almost a mirror image of WoW, i feel it takes what WoW created and then fixes all its flaws >8] I think its about time somebody stepped up to the plate and told WoW to go **** itself. though i may just be talking through my teeth because i'm a graphics whore (i.e. i likey teh pretty screenies) and Aion is runnin with the help of crytek. So anyone else think Aion Can pull it off?
*Digitally slaps you in the face*

Stop.

Bad!

*rubs your face in this shit*

Ok. The company behind Aion said the goal is to be the second best. So stop.

Calling something a "WoW Killer" kills the game because people keep expecting it to be WoW with an extra class. They have no intention of being the wow killer and have publicly stated so.

So Stop.

Havent you noticed that everything labeled "WOW killer" is doomed to failure? the only thing big enough and powerful enough to "kill" WOW is.....you guessed it, WOW itself.

WoW is too large and too well established for a new game to topple it outright.
Sure it will probably draw away some of its subscribers, and then later on some of them will inevitably go back to WoW, its just the way it works.

When you boil it down to the core facts of the matter; WoW has been around a long time, so its had a lot of its bugs ironed out. It also has evolved a lot, learning from its own mistakes over time. It also has far greater content than other MMO's, because its been around long enough to launch two expansions, with a third on the way.

Because of these (and other) factors, WoW will remain at the top spot of the MMO community for the forseeable future (especially with all the good stuff set to be released in the third expansion thats being developed).

And this is a good thing. WoW is in the top spot because, actually, its a pretty damn good game. If you don't like it, thats fair enough, but with the subscriber base it has, Blizzard probably doesn't care all that much about the internet hate campaign that seems to be aimed at it.

EVE online FTW!

Seriously, Its like wow, but more mature and with fewer fucktards and griefers.
City of Heroes ftw. I've had little trouble with grinding and it hasn't gotten old yet, like WoW did.

Even at lower levels, it felt like a second job. CoH just feels like... fun. Wait, what is this emotion?

Nothing's going to strip players away from WoW, Aion's just going to establish a new market, it plays like a game some one who just picked up a MMO would enjoy.

Nothing will kill WoW, but TOR and Aion look like they will danage it greatly.
I hope that statement is untrue. I hope that they do stake WoW right through the heart, the unholy beast that it is. I just want it dead.

EXCLAMATION POINTS AND QUESTION MARKS ARE SO COOL?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
No.
And anyway, you know what?
There's room for more than one MMO on the market.
Yeah.

I know, it's weird, right?
This warrants being said again. Having a bunch of exclamations and question marks just makes you look silly, and I've played up to 3 MMOs within one period of time. Even if all the people who like WoW go over to it, it's still possible that they'll play WoW. I'm still not convinced, however, that WoW needs to be killed. Everyone demonizes a perfectly good game, made by perfectly good people who just want to make money so they can keep their company going. Is it their fault that people get "addicted"? Naaaaaaaaaw. And in either case, the "addicted" people are the vast minority.

NOTHING is an online killer of WoW. Not that I like WoW, I think that WoW and anything with a similar gameplay interface can fuck off, but it is far to popular to die anything this year, or for a few more years coming.

A WOW-KILLER CANNOT EXIST. IT CAN BE A GOOD GAME, BUT NOT A WOW-KILLER.

It's quite unfortunate. I want to non-real-time combat to fucking die forever. Grind-o-Matic games where you press a button or two and your character is basically doing all the work can all fuck off.

The big reason it wont be a WoW killer? WoW is for super casual MMO gamers, and thus can run on the worst of all bad computers/lappys. Aion most certainly will not. Even if most people want to play it, they flat out can't.

No I don't believe it's going to kill WOW or even effect it all. However I think the new KOTOR MMO will reign supreme on it's release.
