Poll: Anime Dubbed VS Subbed

Both, but the vast majority I've watched were dubbed. I watched Elfen Lied subbed, but that was because the voice actors were terrible, and it was a lot easier to find a good sub. Ghost in the Shell is better subbed too, mainly because of the lifeless dubbing.
Cowboy bebop, Death note and Full metal alchemist all have great dubs.

Thank you!! I'm not alone in this frame of mind then as I'm tired of the excuse "their voices are loud and annoying" The character they happen to be playing is a hyperactive youngster to begin with so what exactly DO they want instead?
I've seen this poll on facebook as of late and all the anti-dub comments seem to be of the same old "The dubs are bad/suck/annoying" because the last time I checked, 90% of the time they seemed to fit the character well and generally emote in according to the scene.
We've come a long way since the 80's (trust me, watch an episode of Ulysses 31 and you'll see what I mean) and I don't see many (but not all) pro-sub fans making their way to try out recent animes dubbed in English to see for themselves

I don't mind either, the only dub I really can't stand with is Pani Poni Dash. The voice dubs in that are horrible, I'll have to find a subbed version at some point. I can work with subtitles fine since most of the anime I watch tends to be very slow paced like Lucky Star or Seitokai No Ichizon (thanks go to Marik2 for the recommendation)

I CAn Deal with subs but I usually have to mute the voices, its bad enough i have to read and watch, but to have to listen to a forign languange at the same time? Please, but Dubs, while being easier to understand, provided the dont change anything except the voice over, and can be really enjyable if they find a decent cast. But for every Good sub theres a good dub so I really think both are ok depending on what you like.

It depends really. I like dubs on anime that I watch when I was little and it was on TV (like Cardcaptors or Rurouni Kenshin) but I like subs for newer anime (like Loveless (no english dub(officially)) or Tsubasa). All in all it all ends up as to whether I'm watching it with my dad or not. He doesn't mind subs but he would prefer dubs since he can keep up with the action more. (btw currently re-watching Rurouni Kenshin has sent me back so long ago I got whiplash and liked it)

If it is dubbed well then I prefer dubs a lot more, believe it! Some anime have really good dubs so it is possible.

Yeah, sorry. Wasn't very clear with that. The Naruto dub is aweful! He said it so much I quit half way through one of the early episodes.

Phew, I was afraid I may lose all my faith in humanity. In that case I agree with you, some dubs (I recall Princess Mononoke was among them) aren't bad, I still prefer the original language but its nice that they took to dubbing a bit more seriously.

Have you seen FMA dubbed? That's my favourite one out of them all, what did you think of that?

I think I actually did find that one acceptable, I'll have to check it out again when I get home but I still prefer any given show to be in the language it was intended. I've personally been thinking up of my own little creation and since its meant to concentrate on a realistic and multicultural environment, language is gonna be a huge focus, be it a matter of social class or actual nationality etc and if that were taken away from me by someone who didn't want to read, it would ruin both their experience of it and my own effort. I guess to a point I see dubbing as disrespectful to the makers (though it was authorized by them, I'm sure)

Granted FMA was actually set in Germany, but was produced in Japan and originally made in Japanese so... hopefully that justifies it enough.

I think you take it a lot more serious than I do. Frankly I couldn't give 2 shits what language it was in originally as long as the voices aren't crap and the show itself is entertaining.

I didn't like the original Japanese voices in FMA, I found them annoying and that goes for a lot of other anime as well. Not everyone can understand the Japanese style and language, likes reading subtitles or even listening to them. It goes the other way as well, the Simpsons has been dubbed in many languages so it has more appeal in other country's.

It depends on which anime, there are some where the American voice actors are shit (see Tokko for instance) and there are some where they're quite amazing by comparison (see Ghost in the Shell).

It really depends entirely on which language is better acted. For example Baccano! is one of the few shows that is actually better dubbed thanks to not only brilliant acting but also well done accents that are missing in the subs. But really it depends whether or not I can stand listening to the characters for more than 5 minutes without the feeling that my eardrums are getting stabbed to death. So long as its tolerable I'll really go either way.

Whatever I can get my hands on I'll watch. If the dub is good I'd rather watch it than the sub, but as everyone knows most dubs suck. When I read the manga I usually have an image of what the character sounds like so if it sounds completely different I don't like it. However when a sub has annoying voice acting I'll let it get away with it, if the dub matches the annoying voice acting I'm still ok with it. When the dub completely changes the voice of the character I want to burst into the studio and just scream "What the fuck!" D.gray-man was horrible with that, the Japanese Millennium Earl mates exactly what I thought he would sound like while the English one sounds like batman with throat cancer.

I perfer Japanese with subtitles, but there are times I don't want to have to read the tiny subtitles at the bottom of the screen, so I switch it to English.

Generally subs, but there are a few shows that I can only see dubbed. DBZ is one of them, and Pokemon and Digimon. Otherwise, it's an improvement to show (BELIEVE IT!).

I don't speak Japanese and I want to read while trying to watch tv. I want to understand the plot and what is going on in the show. If I miss a line then the whole thing goes out the window.
