Maybe some of the people who pre-ordered played the beta, like me, were legitimately impressed be it and made their decision based on that. Unlike so many games with pre-order bonuses this one actually let people play it beforehand to see what the game was like. I played the beta, thought it was incredibly fun and pre-ordered based on that. What right do you have to say that decision is stupid? None, it's their money, their decision. I personally view pre-orders as completely optional, if I like the bonus I'll go for it, if I don't I won't.It also has a lot to do with faith in the game's developer. I have faith in Bungie to deliver a quality experience. If you don't, or just hate pre-orders, then that's your problem. But don't try to shame people because they have different buying habits than you.Aaron Sylvester said:It is saddening to see 18% of votes saying they are pre-ordering it. What is wrong with people?
Pre-ordering has done nothing but damage this industry and absolutely no sense in the digital era. Hell, even with hard-copies there is no chance they will run out. The mindset "well I'm buying it on release no matter what, so might as well buy it now" is absolutely poisonous and literally begging publishers to exploit that again and again.
Some people just don't learn. Doesn't matter how much you're blown-away from trailers or beta gameplay, is it that hard to do the game industry a huge favor and just stop pre-ordering shit??
I'm not telling people to not buy the game, by all means please buy it! But WAIT FOR RELEASE, it won't kill you! You will be indirectly helping improve the quality/state of newly-released games (without lifting a finger) by making publishers wonder "hmm why aren't people pre-ordering? Maybe we need to step things up since people don't trust us anymore".
Bungie are one of the few companies that actually do over the top collectors edition, and limit their numbers. Which if you wanted one of those, unless you get lucky pre-order is the way to go. And to preempt your 'but who wants that crap!', collectors and fans do. Just like lots of people wouldnt be interested in something you or the next guy considers worthwhile, these things are entirely subjective.Aaron Sylvester said:It is saddening to see 18% of votes saying they are pre-ordering it. Or maybe the escapist is a largely PC based community, and this is a console game.Mikeyfell said:No. No one is getting Destiny. Not even you, you're all going to wake up tomorrow morning and realize that Destiny was just part of a really long involved dream you've been having.
Bungie is going to release their Borderlands rip off and it's just going to sit on store shelves gathering dust while everyone goes outside and plays stick ball in the street.
Oh Wait most people here said nope? alright it's almost like a big name company can't get away with producing a generic rip off of someone else's game idea and hope to be successful!
Or maybe only the people who weren't interested clicked on the thread.
I don't think the Escapist is largely a PC community.Elijin said:Or maybe the escapist is a largely PC based community, and this is a console game.Mikeyfell said:No. No one is getting Destiny. Have you read this thread? Most of the answers are variants of 'Its not coming to PC, so no.'Mikeyfell said:I don't think the Escapist is largely a PC community.Elijin said:Or maybe the escapist is a largely PC based community, and this is a console game.Mikeyfell said:No. No one is getting Destiny. But I guess that could be conformation bias, I don't typically go to PC centric threads so maybe I only see the console scrubs talking to each other.
Why would PC gamers come to a thread about a game they can't even play? Aren't there better things they could be doing with their glorious time? Like playing Paper's Please which my PC isn't strong enough to run...(I has a sad)
Huh, that's cool I guess. I mostly just came here to make the silly comment about stick ball though.Elijin said:Have you read this thread? Some PC gamers like to 'send a message' that they're potential buyers who have been ignored. They tend to do it in the wrong places though.
Mmmm....but even so that's still very much science fiction. (though I'd argue that the series has only the vaguest touch of cyberpunk)Rainbow_Dashtruction said:Cyberpunk with a heavy industrial themes. Still a form of sci-fi but very different feel and atmosphere.
