I am a nerd, but I can't quite characterize myself as a stereotype. Okay, here are the facts.
1) I do wear glasses
2) I am slightly overweight
3) I don't like sport
4) I have watched all the Star Wars Movies, actually like episode 3, have star wars trivia competitions with this guy at school and read Star Wars books. Also I hate the acronym SW.
5) I spend too much time on my computer
6) I read history books for fun sometimes. I am a huge history buff and enjoy the subject immensely.
7) I use almost the same punctuation whether I'm posting on a forum or MSNing my friends or writing an essay for English.
8) I have an almost unhealthy obsession with Sci-Fi movies, books etc.
9) I play and genuinely enjoy the tabletop game Warhammer 40,000.
10) I don't like the contraction WH40K

Despite all this, I don't think Im a stereotypical nerd, as I have good friends, a few of which are girls, I am not good at maths, have a strong creative streak and like to write stories.

I hate to be insulting but i think being a member of a games forum makes you either a geek opr a nerd. I am more of a geek but i do have an avid social life, friends, girlfriends, play in a band. I am just intrested in computers and gaming. I built my own computer and enjoy reading and documentaries therfor i am a geek. (i also use the work therfor and other big words in everyday speach :p)

I am by no means a stereotype nerd but i am nerdy and proud of it! Plus geeky chicks are hot and attracted to it. So far i have not met anyone that cares because although i am into that stuff i do not let it consume my life and choose gaming and the like over a social life.

Let's see...

Glasses? Check.

Knows programming beyond HTML? Check.

Plays lots of video games? Check.

Junk food? Not so much anymore, but let's check it anyway.

Good grades? Not really, more like average. I was too busy gaming.

No girlfriend? No, I have one. I was single a loong time before that, though.

Well-behaved? Mnaeh... I never punched anyone... much. Broke the law on many occasions though.

Plays DnD: Well, I have a little, so check that I suppose.

Avoids sports: Generally, yes. But I have practised some MA.

I don't call myself a nerd. I love books and movies and music too, so I think of myself as an appreciator of art more than anything else.

I have incredibly nerdy hobbies:

Computer games, comic books, cult films, ex-Games Workshop, pen & paper RPGs, politics and science. Actually the worst is probably writing RPG systems for my friends (sigh). I have quite an analytical/systemic mind and am currently working on a fantasy RPG set in post-apocalyptic Britain which has returned to a dark age.

But I'm a fully functional member of society:

Fully time professional job in political communications, healthy (a little doughy but we'll get there!), plenty of friends, not adverse to playing football, heavy drinker.

im an alternative rocker nerd. im not overweight, but im not thin either, i dress all black and sometimes a blue shirt. i wear band t-shirts (my trademark amongst friends is a black ramones t-shirt) and message/funny t-shirts saying stuff like "Wiid" with super mario on drugs on top of the writing (admit it, thats clever). i have a reasonable amount of friends and i DO sit on the computer lots of hours, but not more time than i play guitar. Peace Out!

I have glasses... don't know where they are...
I know nothing about programming, I'm more a trivia kinda nerd... erh person.
Do eat Junk food from time to time but I do consume healthy food more often.
but once I've got chocolate it's gone before you can finish super mario bros using the flutes.
My grades are average But getting grades does not tests ones intelligence it's just a test of memory save for math you have to understand it's working, wich I do but I still suck at it. I'm not good at learning from books and stuff.
Don't have girlfriend right now but do have lots of friends who are girls :p
Don't like sports, did play soccer until I was 12 or so, and later did som Aikido.
do ride my bike from time to time.
I don't consider myself overweight.
I used to be the stereotype nerd guy but a lot of friends helped me transform into a more social person. For wich I'm gratefull and I would like to thank god and my mom for all the support *sob* ... Oh wait this is not the MTV Awards
But I don't care if people call me nerd or geek or whatever. It always beats to be called a Nazi (yes I've been called a Nazi... can you imagine?)

Everyone gets ragged on. It's usually those rich, charismatic and full-of-them-self-head-in-the-ass type people which are to blame for stereotypes though.
...I take offense to that. ;_;

(hahakidding)

And nope, definately don't fit into the nerd stereotype, although a year ago I would have fit in at a D&D convention.

My main vice is video games, but I spend a majority of my time browsing the interwebs on my PC. I can code in about 3 languages (not well, though) and I really don't hang out with my friends too much (that's mostly due to distance, however).

At least 2/3rds of my wardrobe is gaming related, and I'm usually wearing a gaming tee with my Guitar Hero hoodie from Penny-Arcade. I bought my best friend (who's an avid gamer too) a Pink 360 controller necklace (I bought myself a Guitar Hero one, it's amazing!) for our one-year "anniversary" of being friends, and she's pretty much the closest I've had to a girlfriend.

On the flip side, I'm not really overweight, having spent the last year dropping 20 kilos at the gym, I play guitar and piano, and my hair is mostly blue. 95% of my friends are girls, and I'm improving in my social interaction abilities.

What am I?

Lessee...
Yes, I play lots of video games. No, I don't watch Star Wars. My grades are average. Yes, I'm picky about spelling, punctuation etc.
I know plenty of HTML, but not much about computers
Yes, I spend too much time on a PC.
Yes, I have been kissed before XD And I have a boyfriend whom I've been with for 14 months now...

And I don't have any fashion sense :)

A teacher spelt something wrong and missed out a comma on the whiteboard, so I pointed it out. The whole class you just said, "NERD!"
Ha ha.

Well, I do like gaming, and I study physics at uni (and love it). I also read web-comics, collect random pieces of information for fun and consider my laptop one of my most prized possessions.

On the other hand, I'm neither under no over weight, I don't wear glasses or contact lenses, I have lots of friends and love to go to parties (Lan parties count but are pretty rare).

So perhaps I'm not a nerd, but I'm definitely nerdy.

I dunno really. I'm not overweight, I don't have glasses and I have female friends. Plus, I've had relationships and the like, some serious, some not so. Oh and I play Football and enjoy it.
But then again, I play games, watch Naruto and think VG Cats is great... when it actually gets updated that is. But when it comes to games, my favorite is the Half Life series which I guess is actually kind of a cool series in comparison. But I do have an account on an MMORPG. Final Fantasy XI to be exact.

So I guess I'm a bit of a nerd? But I can't say I've really thought of it.

I believe I'm an atypical nerd: I'm tall, well-muscled and (now) fairly athletic, in addition to be physically appealing, and understand personal hygiene exceptionally well despite my generally unshaven face.

Yet, I enjoy D&D, I can practically recite the original three Star Wars movies backwards and I'm starting to know far too much about WH40K. Add to that that I'm an engineer covering mechanical, electrical and software fields, and I'd say I have clearly nerdy interests.

I'm a geek, I wear shirts with references to social engineering, violence caused by video games, and monty python. I love history, science, and mathematics. I would need to be forcibly put in rehab to stop gaming now. My best friends are online and I read multiple manga series. For god's sake all I need is glasses and a pocket protector. Though I see being a geek as a good thing and wear it as a badge of honor.

ok there are 3 main types here, nerd geek and dork

nerd: exceptionally good one one specific skill, and is usually obsessive. does not have social skills outside their race

geek: an all around good at complicated things, but not as good as a nerd at their subject. has acceptable social skills with people outside their race

dork: a nerd without skills. nerds and geeks look down on them

note - people who watch football obsessively are nerds in their respective field. these rules are slightly bendable to label
Definite geek. Though the I think my social skills with people are starting to wane.

Non stereotypical i suppose in that i don't fit rigidly into anyone definition of each 'type'. I'm quite skinny, my skin is extremely pale, i spend about 10hours on the pc per day, excelled at college with very little effort, 'gaming enthusiast' and the one every gets to fix their computer. However i also hold a little social ability, though not much, take pride in my appearance and enjoy literature, arts, philosophy and classical history and languages. :p I suppose i tend toward a literature nerd if anything. Oh and i wear quite thick glasses.

Hmm i suppose with reference to an above post i'm more of a geek.

This is were things get sticky. I guess it depends on where you live.

I am about 6 feet tall, very tan, have glasses, fairly muscular (don't display it though), have dark medium length hair, learn fast, good at anything if you give me a little time, great at it if you give me more, not popular but get along with all but the most stuck up people. In my area I'm known as a nerd.

I know somebody else. He is relativly short, has glasses, greasy hair, many pimples, is smarter than most but because of that beleives he is above them, very week, and almost no social activity except with two people. He is known as a geek.

I beleive that, if you were to make a VERY rough definition, you could say that the only difference between a nerd and a geek is their social activities and apperence.

I guess so?

Glasses: check

Extremely bookish: check

18 and a virgin: check

Plays lots of video games: check

Doesn't go outside much: check

Not good with people: Nope, I'm damn good at manipulating people and holding conversations if I feel the need.

Acne: Nope

Fat: Nope

Pale: Double check

Knows how to program: Nope

I do however do vector calc just for fun like that one song.

Weird taste in music: Check, but I'm part of a subculture, so I'm not sure that counts.

Fantasy books: Check

Uhh...I guess I'm pretty stereotypical.
