You say that Pop,"Ghetto" msuic, and Rap is utter shit.

Then you claim to be openminded.

Derp derp derp derp.

Also the fuck is Diva Metal?
1) I said "other than those two large genres..." etc. Someone who would be your stereotypical close-minded metal fan would like metal and nothing else. Someone who likes maybe 2 genres of music and hates all else could also be close minded. I said I like everything except for 2. I am actually open-minded because I tried listening to many songs in those two genres. I just disliked them.

Also don't be a Semantics-Nazi. It's similar to being a Grammar-Nazi or even a troll. No one likes trolls ergo no one will like you. Be nicer in future when pointing out someones supposed ignorance.

2) Diva Metal is just another name for metal that has a female as it's lead singer. Examples:

-Evanescence (to an extent)
-Nightwish
-Within Temptation

Obviously these bands could be classified in OTHER sub-genres as well. Another simpler name for Diva Metal is Chick Metal or just metal that has a female lead singer.

Well I think the poll is clear evidence that metal fans not accepting other genres is nothing but a stereotype. Honestly it's understandable that it would seem that way; I've met a lot of ignorant people who think that metal is the only good music in the world. Though I've met far more who love all kinds of music.

As for me, I enjoy variety of genres from (of course) metal and it's various sub-genres to something like folk or old country like Johnny Cash. to list a few in between...

Jazz
Blues
Classic Rock
Electronic
Techno
Classical(and anything orchestrated well)
Game soundtracks, optionally 8-bit music
Folk Rock

And probably a few more.(And I'm not even listing all of the metal sub-genres because they are excessive and numerous)

P.S: To those who call others ignorant for only listening to one genre, and then say things like "every genre has talent, except country and rap", please observe the irony in your statements. Every genre does indeed have talent, including rap, hip-hop, pop, and rap. I'm not saying I enjoy these genres often, but that doesn't mean there aren't talented musicians within them. Obviously I don't mean the popular artists like Justin Beiber or whoever the fuck Disney is currently promoting, but looking at someone like Lady Gaga you can see how talent can be found where you least expect it. Just something to remember.

No of course not. Only the awesome sound of metal can do anything for me.

Seriously I do like other genres of music. Currently I'm more into "harder" music which is for the most parts the different sub-genres of metal but there are other genres that I like to listen to. And I still like to listen to a softer sound every now and again as well.

I wasn't always into metal, in fact it's only recently that I've started to get into it, so there are several bands that I liked a lot before I got into the genre.

As for the stereotype that metal fans only like metal, I don't know how true it is. Obviously we here at the Escapist don't conform to it, probably sticking to whatever we feel sounds good, no matter the genre. The stereotype might be true as I know there are people who listen to one genre and that genre alone and won't listen to any other. Or it could just be another ignorant mis-informed idea that started somewhere.

Well what a load of bullshit, since when does a presense of a male or female create a metal genre?

People always say there are too many metal subgenres, well its no wonder if people keep coming up with them with no actual good reason as to why they come up with them.
The sub genres appeal to different people and not all sub genres will make sense to you. Obviously you as an individual do not care if the singer is male or female. Others might feel different about the band based on the vocals and a different gender usually means a different style (excluding bands like Arch Enemy of course). So in short, yes it does make a difference and yes sub-genres help. If you don't like them then don't refer to them.

I really love my heavy metals ^^
But, I find jazz really damned awesome (Eyeless, death metal band that has jazz breakdowns every now and again, and a few jazz songs) and classical is pretty awesome, I mean, composing a metal song is one thing, but a hour long symphony with 40 different instruments? Whole new ball parks ^^

Id give you a 10/10 for trolling.

Sure i might not like certain subgenres, like Metalcore and Deathcore, which do make sence to me.

But your personal opinion doesnt make music genres, music theory does, and sure vocals might mean a diffrent aesthetic, but structuring and arrangement of music remains the same.
No ones going to your made up "Diva Metal" seriously, and i doubt any serious musician would refer to themselfs that way.

Ofcourse subgenres help, i dont disagree with sub-genres being helpful at all, but "Diva Metal" just doesnt help, and neither does it exist.

Why do you have insist on bullshit like "Diva Metal" i do not know.
Yeah 10/10 for trolling from YOUR PERSPECTIVE which is why you missed the whole point of what I just said. The point I was trying to make was that the universe doesn't revolve around the way that 'Novs' sees it. It doesn't matter if a genre makes sense to YOU or not.

How do you think music theory is made? From opinions. Duh. There is a notable difference between a male singer and a female singer therefore creating an entirely different sound. You don't decide what the genres are, it depends on the bands themselves. So if one decides to put themselves into the 'Diva Metal' category then that's entirely up to them... not you.

Just because you don't like the term doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I've heard it used by others, and because it's used by at least 2 people in the world it can be considered a sub genre.

I love Metal. All kinds except growling-vocal type.

I listen to a lot of different kinds of music, but the only thing that can give me a mental buzz is metal.

I almost always hate:
Jazz
Techno
Rap

And anything related to that. There might be a song of any genre I like, but in general I find these genres to suck unbelievable amounts of ass.

Metal is my main genre, but I like a fair amount of punk and other assorted rock, in addition to the odd song from other genres. I still maintain that the Safety Dance is the best song of the eighties, no fucking contest.

Sure do. I like some metal music but I don't think there's a genre of music out there that I don't like. Punk, Classical, Jazz, Blues, and Rock are my favorites (outside of metal) but there's plenty of country songs, rap songs, and techno/dubstep/whatever you want to call it songs that I like too.

When it comes to Metal, I like most forms of Rock in general, ranging from slower Classic Rock to full on Heavy Metal, although primarily from the 70s and 80s.

Outside of that, I also like Classical, Pop, Ska, some occasional Hip Hop... Hm... Not a fan of Techno, Jazz or Blues at all.

Techno in particular mostly just sounds cheap and artificial to me.

I *hate* modern Rap music, and any sort of Country music for the most part. Well, realistically speaking, I don't like *most* modern music in general, there's some, but a lot of it is just downright annoying.

I also hate pretty much anything sung or played in a monotone manner. Have some variety and emotion for god sakes... >_< It's just boring otherwise.
