Its an interesting series, overall. Some episodes are kinda pointless, but I can appreciate the humor in most of the series.

Yeah. The 'ninja' thing kinda got to me too. They are *occasionally* stealthy... but usually not. The ninja part comes up a lot less than fighting and magic.

I watched a few of the subtitled ones, and was vaguely interested, but turned away from the series because of the sheer amount of episodes.

I mean, if someone were to compile a list of episodes 'NOT TO WATCH', then I would like it a whole lot more, and possibly sit through some of the series.

It upsets me greatly as possibly the most annoying show I've had to suffer through. And I'm not an anime hater. I've been known to settle down to the occasional anime myself, but Naruto is just obnoxious. EVERY character is ALMOST ALWAYS yelling in just about any circumstance. There is another reason that i don't like it, but i can't quite place it. But something about it makes me very very very very angry.
I agree. I like NAruto admittedly, but the constant yelling about something or other, or the backstories that I JUST DON'T CARE ABOUT are just annoying! My favourite character is Tenten because she never screams vengence about anything and she has a backstrory which can be summarised in about 3 sentences. (Note: I haven't seen the Shippuden stuff, so if she has become some insane murderous scream-a-holic, then I wasn't aware of it)

I started on the show, Skipped every filler and got caught up to Shippuden a while ago. Then, I just started reading the manga and I haven't even taken a glance at the show since. I just want to see what happens to the characters thats it.

Elfen Lied or Ergo Proxy > any anime ever.

Blood+ is up there too IMO.

You NEED to watch Elfen Lied before you die if you have any interest in anime. It is amazing. Only 13 episodes.

Since when is teamwork and dressing in orange a key part of becoming a ninja?

And Naruto < Every decent anime ever made.

Naruto is the "Everybody loves Raymond" of anime.

The person who decided "Believe it!" should be Naruto's catchphrase should be dragged into the street and shot. 50 times. In the groin. With a BB gun.

The mangaka originally planned to make the series about sorcerers, not ninjas. But somehow decided to with the 'ninja-esque' setting .

But w/e, Naruto is highly enjoyable, as long as you don't take the whole ninja thingy seriously. And it's completely stupid to even go to the bound of comparing reality and fiction in this type of anime; It's like watching Star Wars and complaining about hearing laser blasts in space, or for that matter, wookies.

It's a weekly shonen show.

Why are you surprised that it's filler packed and repetitive, and functionally identical to all the other shonen shows before and after?

There's no point getting upset over it, it'll bumble along until it's no longer profitable, and then it'll get replaced by something all but identical.

Lets just put it this way. Naruto is the ANTI Burst Angel. Long and full of filler, uninteresting characters, total lack of originality and odds are good happy ending. Thats just for a start.

Its the anime equivalent of a sitcom

The new DBZ...(although the idea of some kind of over-the-top-ninja-Harry Potter-in-training seemed fun). Hmmm. I'll stay with my occasional dose of Avatar.
out of interest:what is the target audience for the anime? 12-15?

Shonen is generally 10-17. Though shonen manga, where Naruto originated, sells well beyond that demographic, especially to commuters as it's easy to read in short bursts on trains. (Comics publishing in Japan is different to the west. They don't publish individual floppies but large weekly compilations of ~200 pages printed on cheap newsprint.)

I don't mind it every now and then. The fights are usually interesting, if nothing else. Far too much emo flashbacking though.

I was expecting you to complain (rightly so) about the 100+ episodes of filler from the end of the Sasuke Retrieval Arc...but...you thought it should have ended after the first story arc?

I'm a very big fan of Naruto - then again, I was thankfully warned about all of those pointless, unrelated, irrelevant episodes after the 'end' of the story, and am enjoying Shippuuden, and I really don't get what you're trying to point out;

Barely anything, development wise, happened before the end of that first arc - if anything, that arc was to introduce the main characters, and let the audience become comfortable with them...

So, what you are essentially asking is, 'Was I upset that the series continued after it had only just started?' at which point I would scoff and call you a silly goose.

If your question had been 'Was I upset that episodes 136 to 220 actually had nothing to do with Naruto', I would be in the Very Much So category, but with what you seem to be arguing, I couldn't disagree more.
Same here. Only I am just twiddling my thumbs waiting for the English version of Shippuuden to come out. Not saying that the Jap voices are bed, I just can't force myself to watch that much television with subs. Hell, I almost didn't make it all the way through Kung-Fu Hustle.
have you heard the american-ized naruto..."BELEIVE IT!"

i like naruto. the chuunin exam arc is probably the best arc so far but i still watch the new episodes each week. i can't believe they killed off asuma. the fight sequences are awesome and some of the jutsu are immense. its great. the dubbed version can fuck right off, it completely ruined it, whoever decided it would be a good idea to hire the person they did for naruto's voice should be shot. i would like to play some of the games but they all have the dubbed voices and they annoy me so much i'd rather not play them.

Right now my main concern is this...

Dattebayo is (supposedly coz it probably ANOTHER troll) dropping naruto in january because of Viz planning to giv eout free subbed streams.

Now this normally would have me jumping for joy except for this main point.

US sites do not stream outside the US because they are cunts.

I feel incredibly offended that i cant watch fre show streams from us sites just because i'm not an american...without the uk the US wouldnt exist...you'd think they'd be a bit fucking grateful and let me watch their goddamn streams>.>

The Sasuke retrival arc started well, I almost cried a little bit when he was leaving Sakura, but after Neji's fight it seemed to get really unfocussed. 3 battles at the same time then the Sasuke business was just flashback, flashback, flashback, Drove me batty.
Plus Sakura is my favourite character and I missed her a little bit. Chouji's fight was awesome though.
I would also say that the Naruto training arc before that was one of the worst. I dislike Naruto unless he's fighting so it was sort of like torture, just him on his own for months on end.

OP, I think it's very unfair to dismiss all of Naruto past the fight with Haku/Zanbuza, the Chuunin Exam sections were by far the best parts in my opinion. I found it hilarious when Ino slapped Sakura in their fight. Sakura was like "...excuse me, what the fuck?" Sakura should've won that fight really, but I think she wanted it too much so she got too confident when she had the upper hand.

The English voice acting is horrific though, believe it.
